- BMANZZS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I like how in the video demonstration, she just accepts the ToS without reading it.
- MrPig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I do everything there.
- warnergt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You scared me there. For a moment, I thought you wrote that zombo.com went offline.
http://www.zombo.com/ - NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Interesting... Wasn't google talking about stuff like this?
- Harbinger67, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It's about time someone just came out and said that.
- Subassy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Personally I've been waiting for something like this. Ya see every November I participate in NaNoWriMo (look it up, it's fun) and am often switching between my desktop, laptop and/or work computer whilst writing my novel. Sometimes I go to Starbucks and with the laptop and don't want to pay them or I go to some remote cabin for thanksgiving dinner and have no Internet. It would be nice to just keep writing in one application, save it and then when I'm back on the internet have it auto-sync to one location seemlesly. I mean sure there's also kinds of sinking back and forth with FTP scripts and whatever but this web-based thing with offline is exactly what NaNo WriMo-ers such as myself have been looking for. Not mention not really having to download and install a separate application will help with the wasting time at work...
- ameba, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Why is that? All their programs seem to work fine, even though the only one I use is Writer. Regardless, its an easy way to access files from my home and work computer, and I can use many different formats for it. This will just make them more reliable.
- CircleFusion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1From the article....
"The offline functionality was built on Google Gears, an open source project launched by Google in May 2007."
Google gears is an open source browser plugin that allows online applications to work offline.

OpenOffice and MS Office don't have a key feature that Zoho has...access from almost any computer with an internet connection.
Of course, this will change with MS Office in the future. - Subassy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Feel free to dig me down and I'm sure it was a coincidence but literally no more than five minutes after I see that story about offline zoho writer do I get an email in my hotmail to beta test "Windows Live Writer" which also has online/offline editing (and I dont' think the offline is read-only). I don't suppose this detail will make it to digg's front page since it is evil MS...edit: apparently the live writer is a separate application (MSI file) not a built-browser thing. I suppose it doesn't count in that case.
- simd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Sadly, neither product offers the convenience of being able to access documents from anywhere or easy, real time collaboration. When they do, there will be a fair comparison.
- najdorf, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Not trusting any company other than Google to keep my files.
- LuTze, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0From what I can see Windows Live Writer appears to be directed at blogging and not a Word replacement (not surprisingly) plus online storage is restricted to your blog. So not quite the same genre.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1exactly
zoho has its uses
for me
its web based file viewing for those oh so annoying .doc only pages - robeyscs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1OpenOffice and MS Office have had this "feature" for a long while now.... Image that... we can work on a document when we are not connected to the internet! How earth shattering! Sorry, just had to say it.
- rb21385, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0I have nothing to add, I just wanted to tell you that you're gay.
- Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Mmmmm zohos
- jetskidude911, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Interesting.
- FreakyD, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3I have nothing to add, I just wanted to be part of this story.
- OBKenobi, on 10/10/2007, -9/+3Zoho is an excellent example of why the "web apps" revolution is nothing but hype.
- jayssite, on 10/10/2007, -7/+0"View your documents even when you're not connected to the internet"
Don't most people have computers that are always connected to the internet nowadays? - Willravel, on 10/10/2007, -8/+0LOL Other services have had this for a while.
