- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -2/+124Sure that's all well and good, but what does Katie Couric think?
- badwithcomputer, on 09/04/2008, -7/+115There's a little inaccuracy in that part about me. They actually did give me notice when they turned my account back on and told me I would be under review and would face a potentially permanent ban in the future.
For the record, I said over and over in that chat conversation that "rules are rules" and I understand why the Digg Team needs to enforce them so aggressively. I'm glad they decided to handle this the professional way they did and look forward to following their Terms of Use as best as humanly possible in the future. - notque, on 09/04/2008, -6/+105Katie Couric is a lovely woman, and a model of journalistic integrity. Please don't ban me.
- chickenloco, on 09/04/2008, -14/+106I recently said "***** You" to Nancy Pelosi.
My account was removed.
I made a new account and submitted a story about my other account being removed.
THAT account was removed as well.
Digg - your taking it too far. Let your users use free speech. - inactive, on 09/04/2008, -3/+80!Oops, what you're looking for isn't here!
The page you requested is not here but there are a few things you can try:
* Try searching for the story you're looking for using the form above.
* Go to the homepage to see the most recent stories.
Pretty sure it's a website bug? Please let us know and we'll try to get it fixed. - notque, on 09/04/2008, -23/+99834 diggs, and no front page. http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Stop_the_Arrests ...
It's about Stopping the Arrests of journalists at the RNC. Why would Digg Bury this article?
Not that I'm questioning digg. I'm not. They are wonderful individuals that are the cream of the crop of society. I'm really just curious. You don't have to answer if you don't want to. Really, I should be focusing on the Iphone anyway. It is a lovely toy. - jayneff, on 03/30/2009, -2/+72Digg user Paul Weber said in an e-mail that he was banned for a comment that criticized Couric for her membership on the Council on Foreign Relations. "I don't see how I violated terms of service," Weber wrote in an e-mail to Digg. "I have seen much worse attacks on Ron Paul and Bob Barr and Cynthia McKinney and myself, which were not even based in truth."
wtf? - inactive, on 09/04/2008, -1/+71Pantone285 - check
Pantone286 - check
Pantone287 - Pending - ascguy, on 09/04/2008, -3/+65YOU ARE = YOU'RE
- kinseyincanada, on 09/04/2008, -10/+67you do realize that free speech protects you from the government, not website discussion boards.
- connieLingus, on 09/04/2008, -3/+59t-shirt idea...
"I was banned on Digg and all I got was was this Obama t-shirt" - SuperMoses, on 09/04/2008, -4/+56You can say whatever you want to your average digg user. Tell them off, call them stupid, etc. However, if you say something to a ** SPECIAL ** digg user, like Katie Couric, you will get banned. Here is the message I got banned for:
"Do you not care about the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis or does Monica Lewinsky need to suck George Bush's dick for you to consider impeachment hearings?"
This question was directed at Nancy Pelosi, who was not even a digg user. Sure the question was rhetorical, but it did not violate the TOS section 5.1 (which is what they referred me to), unless they banned me for "any"..."or for no reason at all". - franklymister, on 09/04/2008, -2/+52And yet MrBabyMan lives on...
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -2/+49Never quite understood banning somebody for what they say when you give users a "block" function and profanity filters.
FTA: condemning users who "abuse, harass, threaten, impersonate or intimidate other Digg users"
-also known as things that happen in every submission's comment section. - SuperMoses, on 09/04/2008, -2/+46// Digg Team needs to enforce them so aggressively //
You forgot to add 'and inconsistently'. What digg considers an inappropriate comment on a regular article is very different compared to an item involving a special digg user like Katie Couric.
It's not just enforcing the "rules" aggressively, it's also the lack of transparency in those rules. WTF is "Any" or "No reason at all"? So far, this has been used to silence digg users during digg events that matter, such as events involving members of the MSM. How can you follow the rules when they can ban you for no reason at all?? And when they show an inconsistency in enforcing those rules (ie: comments to normal digg users vs comments to *special* digg users) - Shiftyeyedgoat, on 09/04/2008, -4/+46Did anyone else skip the article completely and go straight for the comments of other Digg users on the issue?
- artfiend77, on 09/04/2008, -1/+42"I woke up around 11 to find out I wasn't able to log in"
11 o'clock?! Woe is me, the life of a top digger is a hard one indeed. - donkz, on 09/04/2008, -1/+40"I woke up around 11 to find out I wasn't able to log in"
..... woke up in cold sweat. Nervously tried to log in to digg - failed....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - chickenloco, on 09/04/2008, -7/+44Yes, but a site like Digg SHOULD let users use free speech.
Digg is about individual user's opinion. NOT Digg's opinion.
Why should my opinion be censored? - pantone288, on 09/05/2008, -1/+34Pantone, I am yourself - coming from the future to warn me that when I get my digg username "Panton287" banned on December 21, 2008 at approx. 5AM, FBI agents will show up at your door an hour later and your dong will be hanging out of your boxers! DO NOT GET YOURSELF BANNED UNLESS YOU WANT AN FBI AGENT TO SEE YOUR DONG! You have been warned.
- MrBabyMan, on 09/04/2008, -17/+49Kiss-ass!
Just kidding. The Digg team are really great, aren't they? - dagnome1984, on 09/04/2008, -1/+33Will this Diggtatorship destroy Buryaucracy?
- Mithivh, on 09/04/2008, -1/+30@alankem
Talt? You blew your one chance! - BXRWXR, on 09/04/2008, -6/+35Only jerks get banned.
I should know, I am one. - OmegaWolf, on 09/04/2008, -7/+36Digg shouldn't have any rules. People should be able to say what they please as long as they are not spamming.
- TomTruelle, on 09/04/2008, -1/+29You were banned, babyman?
- postminimalist, on 09/04/2008, -7/+35***** Katie Couric.
- GregFD3S, on 09/04/2008, -2/+30How do you kill one which has no life?
- Shaggy3, on 09/04/2008, -2/+29People shouldn't be afraid of their internets, the internets should be afraid of its people.
- phnx0221, on 09/04/2008, -9/+36Speaking of that petition. They're already at 40k signatures. They only need 10k more. They're going to present it to the mayor tomorrow to demand the dropping of charges against all journalists.
Also, from democracy now!, further action can be taken to demand the dropping of all charges against unlawfully arrested journalists.

- MrBabyMan, on 09/04/2008, -12/+38Trust me, I don't know anyone who hasn't been affected by Digg's banhammer... including me.
- ptsuk, on 09/04/2008, -2/+28A) CBS is backdoor backing/paying advertisement on digg. So attacks against miss c or the cbs entity will likley be removed (i expect this one to be)
B) in the TOS comments may be banned/removed " for no reason at all"
which is utter ***** IMHO. - mstrebe, on 09/04/2008, -2/+28Don't ban me bro! Don't ban me!
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+25My first account (created in 2006) was banned with no reason. I sent an email to support@digg.com but nobody seems to be interested. Result : I just opened a new account loosing all my stories and friends...
I think it's all about people who disagree with your opinions and are clicking systematically on the "report" button. - inactive, on 09/04/2008, -2/+25a couric is the standard measurement for fecal matter. 1 couric is about 2 pounds.
- spyd3rweb, on 09/04/2008, -2/+23Do not question your Council on Foreign Relations overlords.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -4/+25Good luck, I'm behind 7 proxies!
- badwithcomputer, on 09/04/2008, -3/+23it's hilarious to me how accurate that was. were you hiding under my bed or something?
- SpectralSounds, on 09/04/2008, -6/+24That vapid *****.
- chrissku, on 09/04/2008, -2/+19More people probably read my comments in one month than watch Katie Couric on the news.
- blake10, on 09/04/2008, -8/+25you're a real class act
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -3/+20Yeah man, that's a little Big Brotherish.
For those of you who don't know, the Council on Foreign Relations is where elected leaders and members of the media meet behind closed doors to decide foreign policy.
Obama and McCain are both members. Ron Paul is not.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_on_Foreign_Re ... - twertyto, on 09/04/2008, -1/+18Someone needs to step up to the plate here and make an absolutely horribly offensive comment so that we can see a ban in effect.
Anyone? Come on. For the greater good. - sheeplescareme, on 09/04/2008, -1/+17am i the only one that has gotten "sorry but that page is currently unavailable. a team of highly trained monkeys have been dispatched to fix the problem..."
- bubba9999, on 09/04/2008, -2/+17It's a "Diggocracy" - it pretends to be a democracy, just like the US, but the powers that be can step in any time they want and squash you like a bug. Or your account, anyways.
- OneLess, on 09/04/2008, -2/+17And then of course there's the fagfags who go around calling people fags.
- InsaneMachine, on 09/04/2008, -3/+18Please ban everyone.
