- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12No, I think that since google already sells videos from major companies on Google video, they will simple make google video the place to buy videos and youtube the place to publish indie videos. They have already stated that the sites will stay seprate, and if anything I have never ever heard google flat out lie before.
....so it seems this means Youtube will get a better backend and maybe some better site features along with the financial security to continue on. That doesn't sound like such a bad deal to me for being paid $1.6 billion dollars - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Whether its Digg or YouTube, it cracks me up when people see money changing hands on a website they use, and they start thinking "Hey, I should be getting some of that!" even though they used the site previously for their own enjoyment and personal benefit. In the case of YouTube, the site still in search of profit... its even mor ridiculous to start hearing people wonder what their worth is. It's ridiculous. It's *human*, but its still ridiculous.
- skinnyC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13GooTube rolls off the tongue more easily.
- Wolfman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This article's also ragging on Google, saying that their ads will be intrusive, and take up valuable space. Once again, let me rebute; If there's one thing Google knows it's advertising, and the results of placement/content targeting. With this new deal, Google can very easily optimize the current advertising, as well as cut out the middle man, thereby increasing their ad revenue, seeing as they were probably making the majority of it in the first place(before the deal, yeah, that's right, google gets a hefty chunk of every click on adsense, surprised?).
Google's not evil(the time being)! Get your panties out of a twist, and go back to making your fatso videos dancing to Hiphop with cream cheese on your stomach. - teddyrux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I highly doubt that will happen. They will most likely keep both to not lose any market share while expanding youtube to become part of the whole boxload of products that google has already created.
- dBLiSS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What a useless and stupid idea. People used YouTube because it was a community site that allowed people to share their videos and ideas freely (as in beer). Now that Uncle "deep pockets" owns the site the Users want compensation? For what? Something most people did for fun and were glad to have somewhere to post thier sttuff without paying?
bahhh - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This backlash is so retarded.
- Some users think the deserve a piece of the 1.6 billion? HA! YouTube gave you free hosting (on and offsite) and gave a massive audience the ability to find your videos easily. Give me a break.
- Worried about advertising over running your site now? Do your homework kids, Google isn't exactly known for intrusive and annoying ads.
- Don't stop YouTube from being "free" - free as in "don't take down my pirated content." What you are doing is illegal, stupid.
The only concern that I think of as being legit is the worry that YouTube will become like MySpace has, less MySpace and more FamousPeopleTryingToMarketThemselvesVirally space. The Paris Hilton channell, Diddy at Burger King, stuff like that is OK and has it's place on YouTube, I just hope it doesn't overun the site like it has on MySpace. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6*****. Make a tinfoil hat already.
- tarmithius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The deal has not even gone through yet, so it is kind of hard for Google to have a say and remove stuff.
- Wolfman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What everybody's missing is the incredible amount of cash Google's going to make off of Flash Video Adsense ads on EVERY website, such as the SAW3 Preview actually playing in a YouTube-esque flash player with "Ads by Google" branded on it. My guess is google wasnt after the user base, though that's quite the bonus, but the structure and press of youtube, allready successfully serving up a bagillion videos a day, a proven delivery system.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A lot of people are starting to use 'Googtube' as a nickname for Youtube. People are probably assuming that google will somehow combine google video and youtube in some fashion. Whether or not thats actually going to happen is totally up in the air at this point.
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was not aware there was a "YouTube community." Every time I look at that site, it's just a bunch of flaming and creepy guys drooling over some 15 yr old girl's video blog.
- WallaceStevens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You-tube is not a quirky little community
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"The YouTube community is also very protective -- including Richard Stern, better known as LazyDork, a rapping, dancing, opinion-spewing defender of the site's grass-roots nature. "The Wild West feel of YouTube is already slipping away, and within a few weeks it likely will be gone altogether," says Stern"
Dude, I hope to God you're reading this... GET A LIFE! Seriuosly, if you're that disturbed about a website you frequent changing ownership, you need to see a shrink. - BigBill62629, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Every entity is now a "community"
What CRAP. - invader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it would be easier to choose not to use google than microsoft..
so if it's voluntary, why complain? - geoken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2 But why would Google need youtube for flash video ads? It isn't like youtube is using some ingenious or proprietery method to allow their movies to be embedded into websites. Any flash user can make a flash video, and produce a snippet of code that will allow that video to be embedded into any site (once the video is hosted somewhere).
- Rooh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Google probably has nothing to do with that. The site has never permitted copyrighted material on their site. Maybe you're just noticing it more...?
- jron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@geoken they didn't buy youtube for the technology, they purchased it for user base.
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1one of the biggest draws to youtube was the fact that it was not corporate. it's like when your at recess as a kid having fun and running around unsupervised. but now, recess is over and it's back to the classroom. most people wont mind but those of us who do will look for something else that will become the next big thing - this doesn't mean it has to involve video or be a knock-off underground youtube.
- lihkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now what? Now nothing.
Get on with life as though nothing's happened. Atleast that's what the deal said. - geoken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or maybe he could cover youtube's bills. It was either get bought out or go under. Why don't these stupid users understand that and just be glad that it was Google who bought them.
- recipher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wolfman, agreed. Think about all of the sites that embed youtube videos! I've always been hesitant to post youtube videos on any of my sites knowing one day it would be advertising space.
- greendaale, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why the fuzz, let Google and YouTube have some time to prove themselves. If they don't, then they loose a lot of money...Always follow the money, which in this case are the users!
- rosswinn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1of course the guys were a completely non-profit charity before they went "corporate". Give me a break. This is, was, and always has been a business. Get over it.
- TeMerc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think we are going to see an increase in clips which display slighty racey material removed.
Why do I say that? Because a series of clips I had saved which were just that, racey in nature have all but dissappeared since Google's acquisition. I also think more and more political clips will begin to get 86ed as well.
Just a hunch. - rheaume, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love these comment! Thank for seeing through the BS, this is a frikkin website, not a world.
Now what? Keep making your stupid videos and if things change too much, move them to the 10000000 startups or go outside and breathe fresh air for once. - vbsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They'll get over it.
- geoken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If recess was costing millions of dollars a month ......etc.
- yangj08, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1One thing I noticed is that after Google took over, massive amounts of music videos and other things have been removed from the site. I am looking for alternatives now to find the music videos that I can no longer find on their site. Can anyone recommend alternative sites?
- yangj08, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1that's probably it- although they just started removing content that's been there for at least a year. That gives me the idea that Google had something to do with it. If it really wasn't OK to have music videos, I'd think that they would have removed it sooner (it's been there for a year now, after all, and they just removed it- the music video of the song Whatever by Nakanomori Band).
- hax0rz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Hostile? I call *****, YouTube fans don't know/care about the acquisition since it hasn't affected their way of enjoying videos at all. Well except for those paid by M$ to astroturf and cause distress and bad publicity to affect Google. Damn envy.
YouTube is 100% the same YouTube we all love - kayjay, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1yeah, MS controls the software, but google controls your mind... whats worse?
- godsdead, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Google are building the ulimate directory of people, To show exaclty what you want, by knowing where you live, and puttin gyou on the map.. Knowing when you shop for things and what you look for and find funny.. its like basically the beginning of AI i think..
There Very advanced, They own sooo many products, but i prefer google to microsoft any day ^_^ - johnvid, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0I have a simple remedy, to show Google who is boss...I am hoping to suggest to everyone on youtube, to mark all their video's PRIVATE for one week or perhaps longer, or until we see some fiscal action. $$$ : )
But 1.6 Billion devided between Youtube users would be ??? not very much, so perhaps we should just stick with the free service. Or better still move the content back over to the Google video and start using the Pay per View feature. We would soon see a drop in viewing figures of Numa Numa video's - j3d1k1ll3r, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0I see the same thing happening to UploadLife.com , every small growing site gets gobbled up by competition to secure advertising space.
- benlundquist, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3Everyone is gonna want money now. Google might give it too them too, why not? Adsense for webloggers. Adsense for videobloggers. Same thing right?

What is Digg?
