LonelyGirl13?
They least they can do is get the details right. Who knows what else is wrong in that article... - affiliate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Errr with normal tv they put ads before and after tv show, so same concept onto videos online, put ad before and after video. hmmm now if i could programme video ads so that the ad is related to content of vido I would make a mint. I am sure some is working on that now, basically same concept of adsense but for video. Any VC's wnat to throw some money my way to develop this?
- pumacub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is so mean.
- diggboy101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My favorite video sharing website is blip.tv they offer unlimited file size, unlimited length, and you can watch or download the video in flash video OR its original format. (No Im not an employee)
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm just curious how all of the YouTube clones out there are paying for their current bandwidth bills. They must be insane.
- phogasmic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why do analysts list the content as "lowest common denominator" and also list this as a weakness? Advertisers should ignore the content and just concentrate on the views. They should make they're ad systems easily changeable, for instance if a ad appears on a "terrorist video" then once you receive a complaint promptly remove the ad from the video and block the up-loader. Also put up disclaimers that the ad company is not responsible for the content, like they do in DVDs to make sure studios are not held responsible for DVD commentaries. One more thing, YouTube should share revenue with posters, UNTIL they receive a complaint about copyright, furthermore YouTube should not be held responsible or it will kill the whole thing. Oh, and music companies shouldn't complain when people use they're music in videos, it is free marketing I have purchased a great many songs that I heard on someone's amateur YouTube video, music companies should just require credit and possibly a link to buy. Media companies need to wake up and smell the endless revenue/marketing potential of YouTube.
- ElMoselYEE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that has got to be the worst sarcasm attempt i've ever seen. and i do hope it's sarcasm, because if its not...you, sir, need to click uninstall.
- foamweapons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Look at Google's "Most Viewed" today. See how many CBS videos there are? Is it a coincidence CBS Pay-To-Download TV shows are heavily promoted on Google Video?
I think that's how they think they can make money, but in the end it will just hurt them.
Today I closed my Youtube account. When corporate influence takes over a platform, you can no longer expect to have an open dialog on that platform. I'd do the same thing if it happened to Digg, or Second Life, or any other platform where I'm expected to be a part of a community and produce content. You can't do that to your users and not expect a backlash. I thought Google was better than that, but I guess not. - blueblood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2from the article: "Ms. Levitas also pointed out that if it weren’t for online pornography videos, the current revolution in user generated content might never have happened."
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about physical media distribution, either on-demand or wholesale? As a business model, it's not entirely dead... yet.
Google *could* make money on stamping out some "best of" DVD's of YouTube's original content. I wouldn't mind grabbing a disc or two from netflix if this were done - it would be easier than mining sites like Digg or even YouTube itself for their best material. If it were *really* good, I might even consider buying a copy.
Another way to go is the old mp3.com/cafeepress.com model: provide on-demand media for paying customers.
The trick is to provide lo-fi copies of stuff for the cheap-seats, and provide hi-fi copies (for verified non-infringing stuff) for a few bucks. The option for physical media is icing on the cake.
After all, "Ask a Ninja" is currently "planning a DVD". If this model were in place, some of you would probably already have a copy. ;) - wthnow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1democracy over money driven content
- ostracize, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That article is two years old

- appetite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ask the guys at Like.com to help you out.
I would bet a million dollars that Google is working on this, btw. - Jivicus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google stock-offered $1.65 bil in shares because Adsense doesn't lie.
They knew how much they were sending to YouTube and wanted to keep it in house.
Simple math, really that should stand as a lesson for all those still scratching their heads about it.
~Jivicus - appetite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Allow videos to have click-able frames so video creators can put in links to their own sites, to at least benefit a little from the traffic they provide YouTube.
- Starship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they talk about product placement .... how many people who don't DRINK diet coke, or eat mentos went out to buy them, just to make a little fountain?
- Jivicus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Switchbox, iTV and their ilk.
- RuffRidr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ad revenue sharing across the board.
