- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29what a terrible article.
- Kolar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Digging or undigging an article should be only allowed once you open the actual article.
- dmurray14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14You were fine up until that last comment
- bluemeep, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13To summarize the article: "Crap, it's popular now and totally uncool."
- procdaddy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19meh.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10indeed, i read about 10 lines and realized that it was like talking to a horribly annoying acquaintance
- meltingrobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Youtube is so over... brought to you by the guys that said 6 months ago that Myspace is so over.
- Freshjive787, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9meh is right man. once the article said
"Because they can, silly."
i just stopped reading... - dmurray14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I forgot..
Or C) sell out to a major network. I mean completely sell out. - optimus008, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ahhh, the News knows nothing about the internet and what people want.
- rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Umm no it's not about user generated content at all. They wouldn't be as popular as they are if this were the case. It's about user PIRATED content. People ripping old tv shows and music videos off of old VHS tapes and putting them on YouTube.
- nahsrocketeer75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The political angle is way overblown. No one's watching the drivel these pols are posting.
http://www.networkworld.com/community/?q=node/6326 - punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What a poorly written article.
- zedj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This article has no damn content.
- venir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As well it should, seeing as how you should be working... :P
- dmurray14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't think it's dead yet. Sure, they're going to have ads (I'm surprised they don't have more already) and maybe they will carry political or sponsered videos. But until they either A) start putting ads all over the videos or B) start mass removing copyrighted content, I think they're going to be around. And don't we all know that if they DO fall apart, another one is going to come up and do the same, if only for another brief stint.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not true. There's no spam on my video.
Then again, there are no views either. - smellinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From TFA: "YouTube is the classic Silicon Valley story. Yes, classic story from a place barely 30 years old. Isn't that what the technology revolution is all about? Being barely 30?"
WTF!??? Let's see, HP, the classic silicon valley story, was founded in 1939. Or perhaps they are referring to the transistor, which was invented in 1947? OR maybe the silicon semi-conductor which became extremely popular during the 60's. What about silicon valley is barely 30 years old??
How can a valley be only 30 years old? Maybe they meant 30 million years old? - CaughtThinking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Terrible article. I love youtube, and I'm a horrible web cynic. Any site that simply has anything I could possibly want to look for gets a thumbs up from me. I also love the fact it's removed the seedy ***** crap from it's playlist, unlike lowbrow sites like consumptionjunction or collegehumor.
- LordJezo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've noticed the spam thing as well over the past few days. How long has it been going on for? It seems like every popular video that's there has 4 or 5 survey link and other spams.
Is anything being done about it? I hit the report spam button but I wonder if it works. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Congress! Quick, save the children and ban youtube! gogogogog
- T0PS3O, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Spam is getting way out of hand though. There's not one Video with "Hey guys, earn $50 a day doing this ***** for me" and other crap.
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But no one mentioned your drinkinging.. so why defend it?
- MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It will be over, when they are out of money.
- m00nmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My firewall at work blocks YouTube. Google Video FTW!
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well if they didn't mention it before.. their shure to notice it now.
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What a jackass idiot. Here is some guy looking to be wise, gives a moments thought to YouTube and believes he's "figured it out".
So he posts this great epiphany, concluding that YouTube is analogous to every other internet start-up... ya right.
Whatever YouTube may be.. I like it. I watch YouTube because it's better than daytime television. It's Content on Demand, how *I* really like it to be. No commercials. No fees. I can rewind / pause / and FASTFORWARD anything I want. I get to see obscure *****. Funny *****. Classic *****. And new *****. It's all-encompassing.
So Fack off.
And yes... I'm well aware I've already had too much to drink for 1:13 in the afernoon! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Blogs are just SUCH a credible source, you know? Youtube is no fad. It's the best thing to hit the internet since.......google.
- artman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heh. Replace "YouTube" with "The Internet" in that article.
/thread over
//internet over - bluemech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah, that sort of thing doesn't belong in a newspaper styled website. Keep it to your personal journal or something.
- bluemech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2So, what they're saying is YouTube is ruined because other people might start using it? What a dumbass.
- crapimike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I concede that this is a terribly written article, but the driving point is still valid. There are particularly a couple points the author makes that hits the generational struggles baked into our society. I liked this: "...they're cutting deals with the suits (OK, with the sport coats and open-collar polo shirts)". Younger generation will always have the bulk of disposable income (whether they actually do or not is a different story...) and older generation is always going to try and extract whatever they can out of them using what's 'hip, thus making it not so 'hip' anymore. Monetize, monetize, monetize!
- crapimike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2There is a perfect cliche that summarizes your personal blog post:
"Knows the cost of everything but the value of nothing"
Buried. - MobbyG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can't seem to find anything good on You Tube, yet I come back everyday to check. Must be either faith or stupidity. Could be boredom too. I don't think You Tube is "uncool" yet. But I'm still not finding anything too cool to me yet.
- munderwood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Just because you heard something that amused you, you don't need to force it into your very next post....
- enders, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Seriously, there's no reason to throw that crap in there.
- Syvergy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That was a horribly written article. So many news sites nowadays seem to start writing an interesting feature then simply end it abruptly after making a small point. Ugh.
How is this on the front page? - swisstone, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Same sort of thing that happened to MySpace isn't it? Not really bothered to be honest... fair play to the founders for making a good chunk of money, if this story is true...
- psiit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I bet google is behind this!
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Who cares?
- TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6I don't care much for the fan vids. I prefer actual full length TV Shows, Movies, and Cartoons. I'd be willing to watch some commercials, if it made them legitimate. In the meantime, here's X-Men 3:

A peice on why this is all wrong. - CourageousRobot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0The summary is merely the opening to the article, which unfortunately does not do much to tell us what we'll be clicking on.
The article itself is somewhat interesting, though its purpose is a little unclear. - videozine, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6YouTube is all about USER generated content - all the article does is whine about how politicians are getting in on the game.
Well good for them! If they can at least pretend to know that they know what the common folk are all about then I say it is a step in the right direction. Right as in correct - not right as in whacked out fundamentalist Christian family value bashing gays lets wage war on everybody right.
