They picked user names like "Hannah Montana" and "Jonas Brothers" which are obviously search terms for kids. The Jonas Brothers themselves actually use YouTube to provide content for their young fans, so lots of those fans search on that name every day... and they're not just below 18, but often below 10. Miley Cyrus has a similarly young (if not younger) audience.
I'm not a "think of the children!" kind of person, but in this case they designed the attack for children to find the videos, and in doing so they lost my -- and many others' -- support for their cause.

Youtube blindly complies to ridiculous copyright laws that are desperately in need of being rewritten, instead of helping to fight for reform. Youtube is the biggest video site on the net, so obviously it was the main one attacked. By uploading 'offensive' videos and targeting an audience which should not by normal means view those videos, they are doing damage to Youtube's trust/PR. This in effect hurts Youtube to some small degree and overly costs them time and money. See, a coordinated, intelligent approach (like a writing campaign or a non-destructive protest of some sort) might have gotten the right people to re-think their decisions as they would recognize the request comes from lots of reasonable and mature people they don't want to upset.
