- Awspire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+32"YouTube's CEO said in January that they'd originally wanted their users to be motivated by a love of videos — and not money."
A ***** statement if I ever heard one. Translated means: Provide the content for free so YouTube and only YouTube can profit. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Stealing ideas from MetaCafe. Classy.
- PiMPSP, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9WOW..thats some good idea jackin there.
- mretx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Good for him... but is that what we really need ...another freaking reality show??
- stringerbell, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I just directed a movie (that's about to be released by a famous US movie distributor), and 3 times over the past few months I've written YouTube offering to distribute it instead on the internet with them - and not once could they even be bothered to respond to me. They wouldn't even respond when I asked who their Acquisitions Manager was. They wouldn't respond when I emailed one of their VP's personally. They wouldn't respond through their website. So, despite all their propoganda, they don't care one bit about sharing revenue with their users. Cause, I can't imagine too many Hollywood movies are knocking on their door that they can afford to do that sort of thing. It appears that they'd rather continue living off their users like an all-consuming parasite...
- umrgregg, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7He got his idea from Aaron Stanton of CanGoogleHearMe.com fame. Cool for him!
- kindrobot, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Check out tech.blorge's clueless bittorrent article. Wow. How out of touch do you have to be to think the official bittorrent site's new content renting plan is going to shut down bittorrent altogether?
Check it out...
"Media pirates will eventually become frustrated with the new service and look to one of the many alternatives to BitTorrent such as eDonkey2000, Gnutella, or Azureus."
Roeful.
(Kudos to Brandon though!!) - swaggadocio, on 08/20/2008, -5/+7I know this guy. He has major hustle and I'm not surprised he has pulled it off.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I admire the spirit to go out and get what you want ......but this is just porting an idea from regular television to the internet. It seems like it'll go the way of most MTV-like dating shows.
- championchap, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The first place I ever saw offering money for user submitted content was over at Newgrounds.
I think i prefer their method too, they made it like a contest, and only the top submissions of the month get the cash. The submissions are chosen by the top users of the month. - redrory, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Good Job with UTube, but the vids are sorta crappy.
- honestpen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is *****.
- destinyland, on 10/11/2007, -5/+6Ha! Check out this other funny story where you can WATCH his video show...
http://www.10zenmonkeys.com/2007/06/22/youtube-the-20-year-old-and-date-unknown/ - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2and btw this is what I hate the most about the new digg. About half of the stories on the front page are paid ads. Our comments are being used as market research tools. And yet I still came back. God damn crack (digg). I don't like the diggs the diggs like me.
- 0firefly0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1..it thought it was down when I clicked it, but I'll just go with what bacio said.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3wow I wish I hadn't seen that. And no ***** they are paying him he is an actor. This is a google / youtube tv show. Not going to watch it even if digg.com got paid to have this hit the front page and generate interest.
- undergroundman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Google is unreasonably hard to contact and even when you do contact them, they never reply. It seems like they're the only internet company which is so aloof.
- Endoplasmic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Just watched the show.
Freakin' sucks. GG YouTube on a crap investment. - marnaq, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yes, but the problem is top viewed videos does not imply ad profit for site.
- ronaldinho, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Good for the dude, he got guts and Youtube gave him a deal. I just wonder how much revenue does Brandon actually gets from this deal. I think he's so ecstatic to even get a deal he didn't even bother negotiating.
- ewang, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Or you could just post on blip.tv where they already will allow any video to share in the advertising that is shown at the same time...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Exactly. And Google buys this business-model-lacking ***** for 1.6 billion.
Pathetic. - scytherz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Crap story, good achievement. Meh.
- undetected, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ok, the article's bottom line seems to be "Brandon's story seems to show good news. Apparently YouTube's money won't be limited to just the big-media video producers like the major motion picture and television producers."
Isn't that what their YouTube Partnership Program is all about? HappySlip, Boh3m3, TheHill88, Nalts, they're not major motion picture and television producers.
How is this news? - bacio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0in case it does die, then he can get all the credit
- missbvi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Great story of perseverance and determination! Don't we all wish we were made that way? Kudos to Brandon!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1the site isn't down why post that?
- 0firefly0, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3http://duggmirror.com/tech_news/YouTube_Signs_Revenue_Sharing_Deal_With_20_year_old
- NeoSporin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1major hustle indeed
- ENEX, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Bone Fletcher
- rh2600, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I find it a little silly that we get news items about how YouTube will be implementing revenue sharing with contributors - like that makes them somehow amazing and benevolent. Other sites like metacafe and revver have been doing this for ages.
Case in point, my silly wii-mote fatality clip has earned me ~US$900 so far...
http://one.revver.com/watch/121118 - MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3This guy has no skills with the ladies so he does deserve the nerd cheque http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tp_jevcSsM
- destinyland, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Did you read the article about what happened to Aaron!? ( "Google Heard Me -- Now What?!" )
http://www.10zenmonkeys.com/2007/03/22/google-aaron-stanton/ - thefinkler, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Good for Brandon -- he really deserves this!
