- WestonP, on 09/29/2008, -19/+345There's a 10 minute limit on videos... who cares if you can upload more than 100MB!?
- ChristophyBrown, on 09/30/2008, -2/+203I think it's because certain accounts (Directors, gurus and affiliates of Youtube) have longer limits or they don't have limits.
- HolyMan28, on 09/30/2008, -7/+186Vimeo.com
- ChromaVita, on 09/30/2008, -4/+125This is a start, but they really need to get rid of the limits on comment sizes. I think YouTube has some of the best comments on the web.
/can't keep a strait face. - sinuegoist, on 09/29/2008, -4/+117BUMP THE QUALITY!

- DougieD, on 09/30/2008, -0/+82They're trying to influence people to upload better quality, less compressed videos.
- DeathMarcher, on 09/30/2008, -6/+71Which cut of The Dark Knight was 630 minutes long?
- cryonix, on 09/30/2008, -1/+65They are a youtube "partner"
to become a partner you must apply and fit within some guidelines like # of channel views # of videos etc. You also get your own banner. Also I wouldn't be surprised if larger companies open up an account they can start out as a "partner". Higher cap on time (or even no cap, not sure) is also a feature of being a partner. - cam0man, on 09/30/2008, -0/+61Upload up to 1GB!*
*(which we then compress to 15mb) - VegasKill, on 09/30/2008, -2/+63Some videos don't have that...
- locojones, on 09/30/2008, -7/+67Alright, now we can watch even more mind-numbingly stupid submissions about dancing babies, dumb skateboarders, or emo blog rants!
- SkippyDoorknob, on 09/30/2008, -0/+50All of them
- Acglaphotis, on 09/30/2008, -0/+46The director's cut.

- nick2, on 09/30/2008, -0/+40Unless they increase the time limit, I'm sticking to Vimeo.
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 09/30/2008, -1/+33Yeah... I swear this was an announcement earlier this year or late last year...

- honeymustardn, on 09/30/2008, -0/+23Yeah, this happened ages ago. And why the ***** is a 10 minute limit still being enforced?
- Shuk, on 09/30/2008, -0/+22All I want from YouTube is for them to incorporate HD videos. Keep normal youtube for the webcam-ers, but add an HD channel with 720p video please! It's almost 2009!
- cryonix, on 09/30/2008, -1/+22oh man I miss Stage 6.
- Speed, on 09/30/2008, -0/+19They got a director account before they were limited too. Director accounts now adays have the same limit, but once upon a time they didn't.

Official video's can be longer. Also, a 10 min video can be over 100 meg if it is in HD. That is what I see as the main difference that this change will make, better (video) quality video's on youtube. - Pritchard, on 10/01/2008, -2/+18u dont even no wat ur taklin abuot...... youtueb alredy haz comment limits!!!! i mean y wouldnt they?! DUH!!!!
- dansai, on 09/30/2008, -0/+16Didn't they already do this? I've been able to upload >100mb files for at least a year.

- crash331, on 09/30/2008, -1/+15I'd say mainly to curb piracy. How many youtube videos do you ACTUALLY watch for longer than 10 mins unless it is pirated?
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -1/+15.. I've uploaded a few 900+mb videos. This is old news. Just use the pop up loader instead of the html version built in the site.
- Jektal, on 09/30/2008, -1/+14But now they won't be as compressed!
- LordofChaosIori, on 10/01/2008, -0/+13@DeathMarcher: ALL OF THEM.
- Kbiscu1t, on 09/30/2008, -0/+13The time limit is still cut at 10 minutes. That's what needs to be upgraded.
- rfterdarc, on 09/30/2008, -3/+15How many hard drives must youtube's data center have?!
- JazJon, on 09/30/2008, -2/+14Youtube needs to fix it so Cycorder videos recorded from jailbroken iPhones dont get the audio portion of the file corrupted.

- ngmcs8203, on 09/30/2008, -1/+12Haha... I could have sworn this had already happened. Thanks for confirming that I'm not that insane after all.
- enicholas, on 09/30/2008, -2/+12According to Wikipedia, they had 600TB two years ago. So probably approaching a petabyte now.
I was actually shocked when I read that -- simply because my computer has 8.5TB of storage. The fact that a random geek can easily and relatively cheaply put together even 1% of YouTube's storage was very surprising.
Of course I assume that the 600TB figure refers to their total data size, not their raw storage size -- which will be far higher due to redundancy and the need for high availability. They might have ten times as much storage in terms of raw hard disk space, I simply have no idea. - geoboy, on 10/01/2008, -2/+12Well that's all fine and dandy until you realize that most people who upload videos to youtube are using cheap webcams or the deplorable cell phone camera as their source of video recording.
- Headake, on 09/30/2008, -4/+14came in here to say exactly that.
- digitul, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1010 minutes of people in their basements singing to themselves, in hd!
