- Electric_Sheep, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Google might come in at number 42, but 42 is the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. Atleast that's what Douglas Adams and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy taught us.
- nacs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12This is because the level of information that Google's finance tool provides is very little compared to the other companies mentioned.
Google's finance looks nice and presents a nice newbie-friendly overview but for hardcore investors, it's not enough info. - digjedi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Google chart looks awesome and the... ahhh... and Google has.... ahhh... oh yeah, they got nothing but a pretty chart. And most strange of all is the search giant doesn't even provide a complete list of available news articles like Yahoo does. You'd figure Google would have a complete listing of all news articles discussing the specific company as a top priority and not the development of a pretty chart??
- cybersamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+442 is actually the best place to be. #1 is really the runner-up
- lubos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4google thinks like let all the work be done by computers automatically, so staff can play billiard.
- podgey22, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Precisely...
Google is not a content creator... They redistribute other peoples information on their stocks graphs, source their news automatically, etc etc...
Both yahoo and MSN have their own editorial teams to write up... I'm not saying google is somehow beter, its just not fair to compare business news sites against a search engine company... - masamunexs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I like google finance, it just needs to display more data. I want them to at least show the Beta of a stock and be able to view options pricing etc. Basically yahoo finance with AJAX.
- lostboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3You do realize that gmail is still in beta? A lot of googles popular services are still considered 'beta' by them when they are already quite ready for prime time, they seem to keep things in beta for a long time so that they can make large alterations/improvements to the service without it being a shock or annoyance to people. Afterall, it's still in Beta.
Finance is definitely not somewhere google is competing, and to go head to head with Yahoo who have been the standard for a long time would involve a large amount of work. Google will ignore finance for the moment at least and consolidate their grips on other services like news and email. - m0nghed, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6There had to be at least one geek who said this. Well said. :)
- toomuchgreentea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Wait till Google combines their financial section with its spreadsheet and calendar, so everyone can run their own screens and analysis.
Who would need editorials when they can easily extract info from 10-Q and conference calls, match the fundamentals with a company's rhetoric, then use a spreadsheet to fine tune all the technical analysis? - gabebear, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Who uses MSN? I haven't tried to use MSN's financial pages many times, but MSN seems to have a lot of missing data and just a poor design(not enough info per page and ugly ugly charts).
Google's signal to noise ratio in it's news articles is just terrible, they don't include many important stories and include a lot of silly speculative stories. I do like how Google gives you links to the different formats in the EDGAR database, even if you do need to have an EDGAR account. - CongoJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love their charts. I like how you can mouse over it and it'll give you the price.
- Frebis, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Everything google has is in beta. They do this that way they never have to fix problems. Once it comes out of beta they get scrutinized for all the problems, so they just keep it in beta.
Plus, I hope you all realize they could care less about there products as long as you look at the adds. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Honestly, I try to keep on top of what Google does but I first saw Finance about a week ago.
- grayBot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5This is ridiculous ... how old is google finance ? 3 months tops ? -- struggling ?
Thats like saying: News at 11 - infant struggles to walk!
NO DIGG. - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2LOL. Truer words... but I'll digg it because its 42. Nuff said. I sware, some Google exec is winking at the other at this very moment.
- pacificdave, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1frebis: wow.... you're very out of the loop. go back to msn where the trolls roam free....
- TechHerder, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2So does this count the stock quotes on my google toolbar or my google homepage? Probably not... How does this company Hitwize get accurate stats anyway? It's not like these big companies are publishing hits to certain portions of their sites. BTW, up until recently google desktop stock module linked to yahoo finance. Nobody really knows much about the goolge version with their ajax charts and graphs and news to chart integration.
This is not news, just a cheap way to put 'google' in your headlines for all of the news bots. Bad pc world! -digg - phucku2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Also, Google finance has not been around that long. Google seem to be quite happy growing things organically.
- twyford, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2This is just silly. How long ago have these services been launched compared to when Google launched their finances site. No Digg.
- AhmedF, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2This is stupid - comparing the popularity of a site that is many years old to a site less than 6 months old is something only a retard would do.
- Mengoxon, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Uh.... hello?
Google's Finance website is still in beta and therefore not actually competing yet. It lacks content and many people don't know it yet. Those who do know about it, love it (including myself). Saying that Google is losing a race while it's still testing a prototype is quite stupid - but what do you expect, a business article in PC World. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1*saLUEtes google*(inside joke)
- RBotros, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1What lets u suppose Google wants to be first in Finance? The whole idea was only displaying a quick chart while searching. (PS: didn't read the article)
