- insomniacal, on 10/12/2007, -44/+267Microsoft + Yahoo ...
... then we'll need to see Google + Apple.
Bring it on! - IbnDigg, on 10/12/2007, -26/+185Hope it never happens.
I dread to think what will happen to flickr, delicious and all the other goodness on the tubes. - LMaxey, on 10/12/2007, -21/+157I for one am wary of our new Microsoft overlords.
- Langford, on 10/12/2007, -8/+134When I read that monetary number, I have this strange urge to lift my pinkly to my mouth.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+103If Google decided to buy Yahoo, you guys would be jumping for joy.
- Boghiu, on 10/12/2007, -10/+95It's a tech deal. It's the right topic.

- misteral, on 10/12/2007, -13/+81>> It would give Microsoft a really huge leap over Google
Erm, how? Wouldn't they still trail in both search and ad space, both probrably the biggest money makers for Google ATM? - betterth, on 10/12/2007, -12/+70I thought Microsoft had been our overlords since like Windows 95/98?
- jeffgtr, on 10/12/2007, -11/+64Easy...it would be gone
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+55I don't think Steve Ballmer and Terry Semel's egos can coexist.
- snotrokit, on 10/12/2007, -17/+64what, they finally realized the the whole MSN/Live/Hotmail package was crap? Doesn't matter how much they ram it down your throat, it's still crap.

I don't like Microsoft, but that's not why I dugg you down. I don't really like Yahoo either and I prefer Google search and gmail, but that's not why I dugg you down.
I dugg you down because even though I don't use Yahoo, I still prefer it to MS services, and I'd hate to Microsoft ruin it. And also because I think 3 big companies - Microsoft, Yahoo, and Google - competing in the space are better than 2. - wattz, on 10/12/2007, -12/+51This is scary..... what would happen to Yahoo's open source friendliness?
- an7agonist, on 10/12/2007, -6/+44Or "Y Microsoft ? :-("

Y$ !!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31Did you think that maybe the person who submitted this lives in one of the many countries where they use a dot instead of a comma for grouping digits?
Countries where a dot is used:
Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada (French-speaking), Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Chile, Colombia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Faroes, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Guatemala, Honduras,Hungary, Indonesia, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg (uses both separators officially), Macedonia, Mexico, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa (officially, but decimal point is commonly used in business and science), Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay, Venezuela, Vietnam, Zimbabwe - mrfish, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36or Micro-hoo!
- BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31So Microsoft goes from an almost infinitely huge and influential company to an almost infinitely huge and influential company + Yahoo! Good for them.
I'm not sure the collective talents of Yahoo and MSN are going to knock Google off their perch any time soon though - they've both spent a lot of time and effort trying thus far, and haven't done a very impressive job.
I'll be suprised if they get more threatening with the hassle of a takeover. - SirBotchness, on 10/12/2007, -9/+32Aparently google buying youtube is an amazing acquisition, but MS buying Yahoo..oh dear god what is the world comming to. Think about what would have happened if google were to try and buy yahoo, people would be praising google as the gods of the world. And to be honest, outside of this website and similar sites, no one gives a *****. Much like you're stupid "revolt" earlier this week. You're not that important.
- LordSnooze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24This was so predicted...

- kashem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Yahoo mail is scheduled to provide push email to iPhone customers...
Hmmmm... - oddmanout, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24I.E was good for the time, it was really good, it kicked the ass of netscape... but they just let it sit, they didn't develop it anymore then firefox came out with its tabs, extensions, and security... thats why I.E. 7 was such a big jump. And as far as building websites.... Firefox is a blessing to us developers... the javascript error messages that actually tell us what the error is, ability to add extensions, etc. Unfortunately IE is too picky and doesn't offer nearly all the css options as firefox... therefore i hate it.
- WinGeek, on 10/15/2008, -2/+21Yahoo > MSN
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -26/+45First PC then mac
First Konfabulator then Dashboard
First Blackberry then iPhone
First Media center computers then Apple TV
First Nomad then iPod
First Adobe Premiere then Final Cut Pro
First Photoshop then Aperture
Can you see a trend too? - testdrivemedia, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23God I feel so dirty when reading digg comments. I don't own a Mac. I don't use Linux. I don't even use Firefox.
I use Vista Ultimate, IE7, MP11, Xbox360, Office 2007 plus other MS products. And if I could buy one here, I'd buy a Zune. And guess what? I enjoy it all and NEVER have any problems.
After a long stint on Digg reading comment threads, I am left feeling like I'm missing out on something that so many here seem to enjoy... a Microsoft-less existence - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18"Try to find an original MS idea in there."
Just for the record, the iPod was not the first MP3 player.
The iPhone was not the first phone to play music.
And so forth.
Not many ideas are completely original. That doesn't make it any less of a valid idea if they can pull it off and pull it off well. - unloud, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Ycrosoft!
- HUKI365, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16My guess? Yahoo Live will become the internet business - and completely replace MSN - and Microsoft will deal with Hardware/Software.
You could see it coming with the MSN Messenger/Yahoo Messenger contacts merger. - paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Unlike Google's innovation with Earth, SketchUp, Maps, YouTube, Groups, Blogger, etc..?
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19Raian is right. Tech deals is for bargains etc. This is Industry News. Not like it matters though, there have only been three other front page stories in tech deals in the last 30 days.
- thinkycap, on 10/12/2007, -9/+22@phocion55
Definitely. I see a trend of people on Digg who constantly talk out of their ass. Congrats, you qualify.
-The iPhone is nowhere near the first of it's kind. Apple didn't invent the concept, and the layout is far from original.
The only feature it has that can considered *original* is the OS, and even that's arguable. Playing mp3's, video, surfing the web etc, etc, is nothing new on mobiles. And wouldn't you know it, Microsoft actually accomplished all that YEARS BEFORE Apple.
-Apple didn't invent the mp3 player. Creative had them out before, as well as Archos too I believe. I'm not sure who was first, but I know it definitely wasn't Apple.
-The UAC patent was filed in 2004 so it isn't *new*. Not that this matters anyway because not even Microsoft's big bad army of lawyers could do anything about 'sudo' even if they cared to (and I don't think they care). Especially considering sudo was out years before UAC was even thought of. Or Windows for that matter. - mattfugitive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Didn't Nostradamus predict this?
- Spamiclese, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15There is a difference between paying $50 billion and having the acquisition be worth $50 billion...
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -12/+24"accelerate Microsoft's extended death spiral"
Even after MS posted one of its best quarters, their are still flipping morons that think that Microsoft is about to go out of business. - MuffinMan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19its not just a Microsoft concept - Yahoo! did it with Konfabulator
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Mmm, nothing like giant monopolies becoming even bigger... Hell, why bother innovating when you can buy the competition?
- WinGeek, on 10/15/2008, -1/+12Microsoft should shift their entire on-line offerings over to Yahoo. Let them run as an independent subsidiary.
- Super0ne, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14In approximately 11.1 years everyone will have a job with Microsoft, Google, or Walmart....
- DrMonkeyLove, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12That would be a lot of money for such a little thing.
- paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14"Microsoft's extended death spiral"
Welcome to Moronville. Population: you. - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11If this kills MSN and Live -- I'm all for it.
- Vapid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Microsoft posted a nearly $5 billion PROFIT for this quarter. That's not "OK". They are projecting profit of $20 billion this year. In simpler terms, it will be the second most profitable company in the history of business (after Exxon).
Vista sales actually boosted their profit and revenue significantly. You can't call that a failure. For every dollar Microsoft has in sales, 34 cents of it is profit. And they made $50 billion in sales in the past year. I'll leave that math to you :) -
