- pacman122, on 04/25/2008, -0/+12Now only if they will just let you use pop email server without having to pay
- sinurgy, on 04/25/2008, -2/+12It'd be nice if they could build a "social network" that doesn't encourage everyone to act like a douchebag or lame self promoter. Yeah I'm looking at you MySpace and especially you Facebook (at least MySpace knows it's ***** cheesy).
- solscreen, on 04/25/2008, -2/+8GO YAHOO! I just don't want the merger to happen. It would break my heart.
- fatas, on 04/25/2008, -0/+6So open that will make Microsoft want to vomit.
Like Goatse - TaylorSmythe, on 04/25/2008, -3/+7Sounds like a ploy to make Microsoft reconsider. A cool one, at that.
- inactive, on 04/25/2008, -0/+4Thats precisely the point. Its in the article.
- kingofpenguins, on 04/25/2008, -0/+4Diggers take note, this is why you can edit your post.
- ell0bo, on 04/25/2008, -0/+3There are a few of their 'sites' or 'apps', whatever you wish to call them, that if I got a better API for I think I could have a lot of fun with. Creating an easy way to pull data in from Flickr for a group's website so that all pictures can be stored and managed there, while allowing the viewing to be done at a group's website would be a god send. Maybe even allow for those picture to be easily dispersed from a group's email address at yahoo, to all group members? Just need to watch out for spammers.
- MWeather, on 04/25/2008, -0/+3I don't know a single person that doesn't use a Yahoo service or program, be it delicio.us, flikr, yui or yslow. I'm a geek, though. YMMV.
- peterbye, on 04/25/2008, -0/+3Nice one Yahoo, show the Microshaft dinosaurs the way the world works these days.
- m00nmaster, on 04/25/2008, -1/+4IMAP and POP on Gmail for free...
- kmg90, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2I hate the word "to" it means it hasn't happened yet and can mean a wide range of time
- vincentweber, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2'Intellectual Property' is Microsoft's biggest strength (and weakness). Yahoo! is clearly trying to make itself less interesting for Microsoft. Smart move.
- sickswaystop, on 04/25/2008, -0/+2It'd also be nice if these social networks would just adopt the same standards and WTF google needs to buy facebook.
- Quadrophenic, on 04/25/2008, -1/+3That so many big companies are encouraging third party developers to make cool stuff for them is a great, great thing. I hope Yahoo can do something amazing with this.
- guitarmaster, on 04/25/2008, -1/+3I hope wall street EATS IT -- they sold off all their yahoo shares this week, and one year from now, yahoo will trade higher than microsoft, just pray that yahoo doesn't lower themselves to accept the crappy offer of worthless microsoft stock
- sickswaystop, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1@ yahoo (email)
- Atomic1fire, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1http://www.pcworld.com/printable/article/id,145062 ...
- MWeather, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Forward it to your gmail account.
- radzack, on 12/02/2008, -3/+45 bucks says each new user has to make an @yahoo (flickr)
- thejokker, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1remember back when they had a chance to buy up google?
- YodaJones, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Very cool idea, but Yahoo doesn't have the balls to do this. If they did it would be amazing.
- sheebz, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1Unless they do everything in flash (which they won't), silverlight is irrelevant.
- sickswaystop, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1This is interesting, Microsoft may want to taking a step back from the aquisition because after all is said and done at Yahoo! that will be a hell of a mess for MS to clean up and turnaround with its upcoming silverlight UI.
- sheebz, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1TRU DAT
- thejokker, on 02/25/2009, -0/+1I'm up 20% on yahoo since i bought in a few months ago
- vincentweber, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1On the other hand, Microsoft has a history of nasty - yet often legal - ways of destroying competitive companies. My best guess is that Microsoft would also like it if Yahoo! would go down. That way they crush competition from Yahoo! either way. What Yahoo! has to do is making their platform more interesting and more valuable. In this case that can only mean open source. Open source is the way to go for companies who are not at the top. Hereby they also promote themselves on Linux distro's.
- jasalo, on 04/25/2008, -0/+1Would not be easier if Yahoo! buys Facebook?.... I know....Then we must sign in with a @yahoo account...
- tarmithius, on 04/25/2008, -2/+2Well they don't have to accept MS's offer in hostile take over. All MS has to do is buy enough shares to have a majority say.
- vincentweber, on 04/25/2008, -0/+0Java or JavaScript? JavaScript is already fully open. Sun has recently announced a 100% open Java as well.
- TheZorch, on 04/25/2008, -2/+2Microsoft's aversion to Openness might keep them away, but then they seem hell bent on possessing Yahoo no matter the cost. In the end, Microsoft very rarely doesn't end up getting what they want when they really fight for it and when (not if) they finally acquire Yahoo I can see this going away fairly quickly. Its only a matter of time. The Microsoft Borg want Yahoo and nothing will stop them. Resistance is futile.
- sickswaystop, on 04/25/2008, -1/+1Yahoo made a bid for facebook last year, needless to say it didn't go through
- tomkroening, on 04/25/2008, -1/+1So what
- kitsua, on 04/25/2008, -3/+2"Who the ***** uses Yahoo anyway?"
My sentiments exactly. - pacman122, on 04/25/2008, -3/+1HA HA Charade you are! I dugg you down and dugg him up!
- solscreen, on 04/25/2008, -3/+1Everybody is open now. Applicationization is officially here.
- crosshairs, on 04/25/2008, -2/+0Another example of how the once innovative Yahoo has been reduced to yet another follower. This company is only a former shadow of itself. Sr. management "rats" have long since left this sinking ship. Nowadays, if you work at Yahoo, it means Google didn't want to hire you. Second fiddle, second tier.
This press release is nothing more than trying to divert attention away from Yahoo's failed attempt to up the microsoft bid. Another brilliant move by yahoo management... nice.
As for the soc-network, yea, been there, done that Yahoo..like 3, 4 years ago.. - inactive, on 04/25/2008, -3/+1Thanks for your concern.
- inactive, on 04/25/2008, -6/+3Who the ***** uses Yahoo anyway? ***** knows we don't need anymore MySpace clones.
Anyway they should have sold to Microsoft, they were offered way more than they were worth. - laserblazer, on 04/25/2008, -5/+1Hehe, Dugg down! I'm sure this has nothing to do with what a certain Vice President knows.
- rmad1949, on 04/25/2008, -4/+0yea, who?
- laserblazer, on 04/25/2008, -9/+4Sell the ***** out of your Yahoo stock - they are completely irrelevant to the effective use of the Internet.
- rubixcubez, on 04/25/2008, -6/+1Sounds even more like a ploy to get Google to sit down and do nothing.. And still be the best search engine in the world.
- inactive, on 04/25/2008, -6/+1Nice you stole the idea from google.
