- CoffeeJoost, on 08/08/2008, -0/+18Nice move by Yahoo. Better user experience and trust.
- jupaneanu, on 08/08/2008, -0/+16Great move, more power to the users baby!
- dbldn, on 08/08/2008, -2/+15Sounds like good news... but I'm still using Google.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -1/+14Great Idea, but still Adsense is overtaking most of the online advertising.
- RegularJohn, on 08/08/2008, -2/+14Ads are getting more and more targeted, and that's a good thing. A democratic system among users to decide what's the best ads is always good marketing to me. Just look at reddit ads. They know what's best for their users, unlike digg.
- JonathanMead, on 08/08/2008, -0/+10Yahoo is really trying hard.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+9great day in the internet history. you hear that, that's the sound of all the affiliate marketers sobbing.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+7It will be interesting to see if this makes any difference for Yahoo.
- seldon452, on 08/10/2008, -0/+7What are these "ads" you speak of.
- prattmic, on 08/09/2008, -1/+7Google lets people Opt-Out of Adsense and Doubleclick ads aswell. http://www.google.com/privacy_ads.html
- RicardoWilliams, on 08/08/2008, -1/+7Yahoo is coming for that number one spot!
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+6Hopefully more to follow
- SVOboy, on 08/08/2008, -0/+6Along with google letting people block cookies from their ads, this is a good thing.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+5Choice is always a great thing. I can only see this being an eventual good thing for the Internet giant.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+5that is pretty interesting..i really hope they let other publishers outside US to try all this....
- barcelona10, on 08/09/2008, -0/+4I wonder if it is for real...
- Bloodwine, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4wow, I can't believe some people are actually complaining about adverts that are going to be more vague and broadly-targeted. My privacy is much more important than seeing ads targeted at my assumed interests based on my online activity. In fact, I mentally block out all adverts. As advertising becomes more saturated, I suspect more and more people will wake up and ignore them.
- Frejesal, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4Are you kidding? I'm getting pretty sick and tired of ads offering cheap airfares to Estonia when I'm emailing my foreign friend. Leave me ALONE already. It's starting to get a little too creepy.
- randyzaia, on 08/10/2008, -0/+4Great, so you see generic ads as opposed to ads targeted to your interests. OMG WIN FER PRIVACEE
- TheMachine1, on 08/10/2008, -1/+5Only thing I ignore more often than ads is yahoo.
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3"and then things got even more better!" -- Idiocracy
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -1/+4thata a great step from yahoo, someone needs to break other winners out there ;)
- sfacets, on 08/10/2008, -1/+4They are just copying Google's opt-out option. As usual.
- virtualonliner, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3For all those people who use Google. They are doing it now too. Here is the link to opt out.
http://www.google.com/privacy_ads.html - pw378, on 08/10/2008, -1/+4OpenDNS is the biggest scam on the planet. They hijack traffic to scam ad revenue and claim its a helpful service. DO NOT USE OPENDNS!!!
- rabidg00se, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3then who was phone?
- ThePowerDigger, on 08/09/2008, -2/+5not sure if this is a great idea.
- werries, on 08/10/2008, -1/+3hm. i feel out of the loop. damn add-ons.
- javaroast, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Well ssavoy for me it breaks the way DNS is supposed to work. With OpenDNS, I will never be returned a NXDOMAIN from a DNS query. Meaning that even if a domain doesn't exist I'll be returned the IP of the OpenDNS ad server. I didn't like it when it was call SiteFinder by Verisign and I don't like it now.
This may work for you if the only thing you do is browse the Web, but the results can be pretty bad if you are running other services on the internet.
I'll stick with a local caching name server that I control. It gives me a lot faster lookups than OpenDNS can offer and offers none of the pain. - inactive, on 08/10/2008, -1/+3fail.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Agree with you ! Fewer Ads...better browsing !
- scottsutherland, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Hopefully this mentality spreads. Anyone else getting tired of being creeped out by how invasive advertising has gotten?
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -1/+3ditto
- HayString, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2I came in here to say the _exact_ same thing.
- diggdiggerid, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2I would rather view ads about ***** I actually care about.
- arlok789, on 08/08/2008, -2/+4Google = more better than Yahoo but I wonder if this will make a big impact on their revenues.
- bjornski, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1I already do.

http://www.customizegoogle.com/ - inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1How's blocking junk that you don't want to view being a freeloading thief? The internet was put in place to share information and communication, not for making money. If companies want to try and make money on the internet, more power to them. But they shouldn't be bitching when be block their *****.
- wilywondr, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1I use peerguardian2 and I have created my own hosts file with most ad domains pointing to 127.0.0.1. If you install peerguardian you will be amazed at how many sites are attempting to gather information on you. For example, when you go to digg.com you are connected to quantcast.com, omniture.com and their subsidiary Web Side Story, Inc. All of these companies attempt to gather information on you and sell it to the highest bidder.
- wexmajor, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Anything that gets internet ads to become an objectively viable non-joke source of revenue is a good thing.
- wilywondr, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1media.adrevolver.com
partner.googleadservices.com
ad.media-servers.net
google-analytics.com
googleadservices.com
pagead2.googlesyndication.com
doubleclick.net
ad-tech.com
to name a few
My hosts file is full of em and I point them all to 127.0.0.1 so that they get nothing from me. - JohnAdams999, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Yahoo overcharges for their ads compared to Google. Canceled our Yahoo ads like 6 months ago.
- tdurden, on 08/10/2008, -1/+2how is babby formed?
- bjornski, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1If they want to stop annoying ads, they should fix their ***** spam filters.
- dzw120, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Unlikely. The people that go through the trouble of opting out are people that probably won't click on or care for ads anyways. What this move does is generate some positive PR, and (more importantly) boost their advertisement CPM and CTR. It's rearranging the chairs on the Titanic, but it makes their advertising numbers look more palatable nonetheless.
- lulzitsadigg, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1If they did go down the majority of your favorite sites would go under with them as well..
- bjornski, on 08/10/2008, -1/+2Ad Muncher.
Works with all programs, not just your browsers. - Dustmuffins, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1adblock?
- wilywondr, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1I cannot believe anyone would be crying over online advertisers losing money. It will be a great day when these online advertisers go under.
- inactive, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1Wish I could kick off freeloaders using adblock
