- kevinrose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Rumors... we are focused on features, not selling the company.
- timewarrior, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It would be nice to see a yahoo site with headlines like this:
Yahoo Throws in the Towel - Google Wins
What the hell is Yahoo thinking?
Yahoo Gave Search Data To Bush Administration Lawyers
The Rumor Mill: " Microsoft To Buy Yahoo For $80 Billion " - Dementual, on 01/27/2008, -0/+4This BETTER not happen.
Anyone remember that good old Konfabulator? Yahoo! bought it and changed its name to a crappy "Yahoo! Widget Engine". Bastards.
If they buy Digg, it'd be changed to something crappy like "Yahoo! Social News".
Do. Not. Let. This. Happen. - Tonye5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You people are such pathetic whiners. This is not some stupid nerd game for these guys at Rev3, this is their business. And I would take the 35Mill in a second. And all this bull of how Yahoo messed up everything, del.icio.us is still there and hasn't changed, flickr is still the same, and the only thing that has changed about Komfabulator is the name, big deal, they paid for it, they can call it what ever they want. Bunch of internet noobs now think that everything revolves around Google and nothing else exists. Before there was Google, Yahoo was putting a front and an alternative to MSN. Yahoo is helping to pay for this Web2.0 stuff by actually putting some money into it, while some others are putting billions in their pocket and are mad with power. So why don't you stop with this childish, my brand is better than your brand and just hope that these guys make the right decision, for them. And that Digg is around for a long time.
- TuxFan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope Digg remains independent. I'd rather have geeks over suits running a tech site. Don't believe me, ask /.
- kipprd14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really hope Yahoo! doesnt get digg. If they do the first thing to happen will be to change the name. Next they will want to start adding their own information as advertising. It will become overrun with 2nd graders that click on links from every page that Yahoo! owns.
- hooges, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NOOOO!!!! Dont sell out Kevin!
- atanas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember, about a year ago, the flickr community got very emotional about the rumors (first) and news that yahoo was buiyng flickr. it was a big deal, and nobody on flickr wanted it. but nobody asked us anyway.
- ntnwwnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think Digg should sell out to Yahoo. With Yahoo, all the things in Diggnation that we (or, at least I) love would be gone in a second.
Kevin Rose and Rev3: Please don't sell yourselves out. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It wont happen - it sure wont happen for $35 million. /. was worth +$100million a few month ago. so in other words get over it and stop making posts to gain traffic off digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Last I checked flickr is still flickr, del.icio.us is still del.icio.us. never used konfabulator and honestly don't care.
- ihybridora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah. and if he does sell digg. It will have all this yahoo branding. Dislike it. Independent Digg is better the Yahoo Digg
- jobeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1posted by kevinrose (63) "Rumors... we are focused on features, not selling the company."
for those that missed it - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I find it hard to believe Kevin would sell to them. I would blame him if they did, however. But if Digg goes Yahoo, I quit. Just like I quit Delicious.
- jtarchie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know, out of all these comments, I have not read one thing that makes sense. If Yahoo! does by Digg and Kevin and the guys make some money there is no problem in that. Because first it was Slashdot (horrible waste of space now), then Digg (if bought out by Y! will also become a horrible waste of space), but what is the next thing? Someone will just come out with something better, or a clone. It might not be digg, but it will be something.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think Yahoo is bad. I don't know why everyone hates Yahoo. They have good services IMO. Their email is fine, their "My Yahoo" homepage customization is good, and Flickr is very nice. Heck, some people even like Konfabulator. I wouldn't mind Digg being run by Yahoo. If they're offering $35 million, Kevin would have to be stupid to refuse it. However, that does seem like quite a large chunk of change for a site like this.
- iamdexter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It will be good if Microsoft buys it :D:D:D
http://www.pawas.com/store/category/mbtshoes/ - Toiling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you people think I'm wrong, whatever, i really don't care... if collegehumor makes millions per month with advertising, why doesn't digg? man i'm just thinking too out of bounds. whatever, you don't have to read my comments you know.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is there even a link to this page from the rest of digg?? I can only get here from by profile page/comment history. It could be like a secret forum on digg, lol.
*yodels* - Toiling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ Above post. I MEAT GOOGLE ADSENSE. lol
- muikano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anybody remember the Chinese Journalist whose IP Yahoo gave up to China leading to a incarceration? Giving up actual IPs that lead to arrest and jail terms of 10 years!
Boo to Yahoo. Google may be flawed but you've got to trust someone and I rather trust the ones that are headed but idealistic Stanford academics than businessfolk like Yahoo/MSN. - aforonda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sell it bro then start Figg or something
- Machine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's the major problem with Digg. You can have hundreds of people digging a story... but it only takes a small handful of people reporting something as "lame" for a story to disappear... and boy does it ever disappear!
I would LOVE to know WHY a story goes away. It's just too easy for a handful of Zealots to kill a post that they don't agree with... with no explanation. It's an interesting experiment to let the reader be the editor, but I'm not sure that it's working... and the lack of nested comments just kills the possibily of decent conversations. - Steaminx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not selling out! get over it.
- Toiling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm almost positive digg.com makes that much if not more per month, or quarterly off of yahoo ads. KevinRose correct me if I'm wrong?
if del.icio.us was bought for 500M and it is AD FREE, why would you sell digg.com for 35M when users are accustomed to ads? I would hold out until it hit the 700-800M mark. That is unless I devised a better revenue model. Maybe... subscriptions? - bunni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+035M? Where do I sign?
- Netweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Y!Digg -( WhyDigg)
Y!Digg - (YaDigg) - rbtopp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0subscriptions??!!....Kevin don't you do it.
- XDataBurn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm all for him selling the site, but I want him to start up another site so I can leave the poisoned yahoo run digg. Maybe instead of digging a story, it Rev3d my engine? 'Rev this story' ect.
- SRS - XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0take the money and run, if yahoo screws up digg, bad for us but kevin and crew can just start something new.
it is their name that will be followed, not the digg brand - starvingarvin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0honestly, i am far more interested in seeing rev3 expand than digg...
I mean I love digg and all, but If he could use that money to grow rev3 into fulltime IPTV station... that would just be fantastic - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I guess we'll find out soon enough (maybe a couple of days) if this is true. It would be worth it if Yahoo did buy out digg, just to see some of the whiners leave, lol.
- elamr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg should hold out!
Sure it would be a ballsy, risky move but this is not del.icio.us, or myspace or flickr... this is DIGG, baby!! If they sell, then I don't think they realize the REAL power that they are sitting on.
Once digg goes beyond Tech news, which they are already talking about, it will be something we have NEVER seen before. Just think of all the tech stories about little guys battling for their DNS, or Godaddy threatening to rip off another user and the very REAL impact that the "digg effect" has in those cases. It FORCES companies to act responsibly.
NOW, think of the Digg effect in sports, business, and of course, POLITICS. Sure, online action has been really big in the blogosphere (ie rathergate) but was that the "Digg Effect?" No.
The most incredible thing about Digg is the Digg Army. Digg could be the next Google! But only with the right vision.
If they [owners of digg] don't have a vision then, of course, they should sell it. - stedios, on 10/12/2007, -0/+035mil, between how many people?
lets assume just Kevin and Alex. that's,
17.5 mil each,
minus taxes = about 10mil.
a pretty penny.. but 10 mil isn't *that* much now a days.
i wouldn't do it unless i was getting $40 mil to my self, AFTER tax's. that's set ...
but that wouldn't happen.
Digg needs to find a way to give them a steady, modest income. - ericpp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this rumor again? bah
- 4815162342, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0been calling this for a while.
- ItsBill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0been reading for a while, but just registered so i could say i was here in the pre-yahoo days. yay me.
its just a website. $35 million for a website. sell the thing, take a long vacation, and then start thinking about the thing that will entertain the geeks of internet 3.0 - Maurits, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so... it's just a rumor...:
http://wyds.textamerica.com/?r=4149697 - Dingle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like someone removed it from front page.
- zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Rumors... we are focused on features, not selling the company.
-kevin rose
Why is no one even paying attention to that comnment?
the man came down and said, no, this is wrong.
Rumors... we are focused on features, not selling the company.
come on people, end of discussion - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's all my fault, it's because I'm always clicking on interesting digg & del.ico.us links from My Yahoo!! kekekekeke :D
Anyways, great news. congrats Kevin! - robotplague, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If true....*****. Thats sweet as well, but I hope the site won't change too much (I don't think it will though). I'd be just happy for kevin/everybody. It's a dream come true, sell, sell, sell.
- beasty_dave_Mk2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0meh
- SlappyMc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope he doesnt sell :(.
It will lower my love for this site. - deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kevin sell, sell, sell. Don't be a fool. Leo predicted that you'd be a milliare within a year's time. Do it dude. Best of luck.
- craterburnsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg is Kevin's Baby, and they do all the servers and everything themselves, i don't see them selling it any time soon, let alone to yahoo. What i think they should do is do an IPO and start selling shares. I'd buy, it's only bound to go up, make some nice money off of digg shares.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I meant to say I WOULD NOT blame him if he sold to Yahoo. I just wouldn't visit Digg anymore.
- JFetch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope it's true. Kevin deserves to be set for life. Besides, imagine what he could come up with if he had the money and time.
- jlgosse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd sell for $10 million in a second, let alone $35 million. Besides the fact that would last me for life, I could easily start more ventures.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think the decision can be answered by knowing the answer to this question: has digg peaked or still growing?
