- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44fantastic! they're finally making use of the F-shaped pattern in which we all read websites.
- Kev585, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Current Yahoo looks like someone vomited information on the page.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Still looks very cluttered. They should use CNN as an example of how NOT to design a web site.
- neurokaotix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10GoOgle doesn't have a layout. They have a search bar, some links, and some buttons. This hardly qualifies for a homepage "layout."
- inaxdaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They *do* have a page like that.
http://myweb.yahoo.com/ - info, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It's amazing they have stayed with that centered Yahoo logo as long as they did. Now it appears the search box will be front and center. This is just another acknowledgment that search (e.g., Google) works better than the old directory model that Yahoo pioneered.
I used to love Yahoo, but in the late 90's, they started with the big in-your-face ads. Ever since, they have been playing catch up with Google.
For an interesting look at the how the Yahoo front page has bloated over the years, check this...

Back in the day, Yahoo was known for being a lightweight front page and for it's really fast load time. Not anymore!
Sad... - jord, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9http://events.yahoo.com/326123171.html?source=382
direct link - pierre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Still too much information all over the place. My eyes dont know where to start. Very hectic.
- DeeEffEss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It defitnitly looks better, but this is how it should have looked all along. Very slick though.
I can Digg it. - tackle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5more like 70% of the people who use the interweb. ( http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_500 )

- kickarse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5As I wrote on the techcrunch site
I think the design is OK. It’s definantly less overwhelming and “compartmentalized” as was stated.
But I do think that they are on the wrong focus as well. Their main focus was(is?) a search engine, is it not? Why not focus on making their search engine better, with better features? Are they tapped out of ideas?
Now their a news aggregate and the free AOL of the internet?
Seems like their just trying to be “hip” to design now. Even if that is Web1.0 standards.
Perhaps, though, this is a plan of attack. That this is going to be part of a series of updates to Yahoo! as a whole. - twisterX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Still is very crowded. Do they not understand why google is the best. Its so simple a monkey could use it. Yahoo's design is so populated with crap the people don't even want to look at on the front page.
Also heres a mirror. The site seems slow now.
http://twister.sitesled.com/Mirror/yahoo.htm - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Looks like they're starting to make it look like AOL.com with the dynamic rotating news/promotion area front and center...
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It still looks like a mess. I'm so sick of seeing eight hundred things on every home page. I don't think I'll be using Yahoo anytime soon.
- nebunezzar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A big part of why I prefer Google over Yahoo is because of the clean look. It's easier to find what I want. If they clean up the results like this new front page, I might not hate them.
- aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They're trying to get feedback from users about the design before making it a public release. They have actually made a few, subtle changes to the layout during this process, as well.
- blackmath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was thinking the same thing. It looks like cnn's new home page which is very hard to read.
- Ericular, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's looked like that for a couple months now. I didn't realize I was part of a random group of users "allowed" to see the new home page...
Who the heck even does that? This isn't some life-altering change -- why try to keep it under wraps with a select few? - ubergmr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My dad had yahoo change to this for him awhile ago, and he hated it. I thought it was a new redesign, but he claimed it sill looked normal for him at work. I fixed it by deleting his cookies. I found it strange that yahoo would change/test the appearance of his homepage without asking first.
- mbac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Getting slow...
Mirror (Coral Cache): http://www.techcrunch.com.nyud.net:8080/2006/04/18/yahoo-testing-new-home-page-layout/ - vermin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The new version is a nice upgrade for their portal. If you want the google style search-only page, just bookmark http://search.yahoo.com/
You are right that Yahoo is in the midst of upgrading quite a few things now, with the new portal, and http://maps.yahoo.com/beta/ and we all know about the new ajax/outlook yahoo webmail coming. Sounds good to me. - ronaldpoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't like the fact it stretches with the viewport. I know you will hate me but i prefer a fixed design...
- kalphegor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you can get that interface for yahoo.com if you use beta version of their messenger
http://beta.messenger.yahoo.com/ - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I got excited...and then I was disappointed. It looks awful. I prefer the current design. They got it right when they changed it last time, but not this time.
- johndotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i agree, still way too busy, but it's layout is much much better
- mv10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the computers at school have had this "new" layout for 3 weeks now..
This post already made the front page
DUPE - 70ny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It seems like Yahoo has not done a good job of promoting http://search.yahoo.com.
- kplex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Lol, I like the Drug Rehab page open in one of his tabs... the poor wee fella.
- jeebwise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh man this is old. I have had the new page for at least a month now if not more. No one else I know has it though.
- gookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Errrr. What's new in there? That's how my yahoo page for so long now.
- lavawalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The current one now is CSS.
- st0ney, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3^ Agreed. I can't believe how long they have gone with the current layout.
Does anyone know if it is CSS? - marosnax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1reminds me of comcast
- twertyto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Old news. I saw this page about a month ago. Using IE displayed the new page for about a day but in Firefox the page displayed with the original format.
BTW who really cares about the format of someone's front page? It's the same old stuff re-packaged. Da de freaking da. - neilpan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^^ stfu kid.
Even I prefer google, but it doesnt mean that you neglect other things. Enjoy a bit of everything. Yahoo has some great things like games, maps, messenger, directories, car search, news, etc etc etc etc.... Check out the traffic rankings for Yahoo!
Still number one in the the states.
http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?cc=US&ts_mode=country&lang=none - Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Why is everyone burying this?!
This same exact story was on the front page about a month ago! - mathguru1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The site looks much more user friendly.
- Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, you're right.... I wonder if he put that there on purpose.

http://forumwebmaster.com.br/viewtopic.php?p=5#5 - Ericular, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it go by IP address or something? Signed in from my workplace under my same username, I cannot access the revamped home page.
- jord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1still works for me, don't know what you're talking about.
you have to agree to use their new layout before it is shown.. thats what the link it for.. it doesn't go directly to the new interface, as you have to agree to it first. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Discussion in portuguese:
http://forumwebmaster.com.br/viewtopic.php?p=6 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They don't have to ask, it's their site and their content. No reason to ask since they are going to go to it anyways...
- Harlequn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1man they gotta do something to bring it up to date. The current design dates from something like 1998, no?
- 70ny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wasn't this story on digg last month?
- geodanny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Give it two years and you'll see even more links appear. The need to grow revenue will eventually force them to 'busy' the page.
- aceboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would suggest checking out the Australian Yahoo site, quite different from the US version - http://au.yahoo.com/
- jpsoraire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey thanks for the screenshot. I have seen this from my job for at least 2- 3 weeks, but could never grab a screenshot. Thanks again
- masterren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Everyone keeps complaining about the clutter of the Yahoo! homepage and using a comparison to Google's homepage as justification. They serve different purposes! You should, instead, be comparing http://search.yahoo.com/ and the Google homepage. Unfortunately, barely anyone knows about the simplified Yahoo! Search page.
