- readme, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15It has one feature that Google refuses to add to gmail for whatever reason -- bulk erase of the spam folder.
I don't understand how Google can add chat and web clips but not something as simple and necessary as a spam clear button. - norbiu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Been using Yahoo Mail Beta and yes, it's easier to use, but it's slow as hell. Firefox freezes for like 10 seconds while it's loading.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Dude -- can it be more obvious then clicking the "All" link in the "Select:" area?!

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322683 - jamesg1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I like the new look, but I have one problem with it. There is a huge banner add on the right side of the screen. This add is between 15-20% of the screen and It looks about the same size as the banner on AIM mail. I will be sticking with the old version of Yahoo mail simple because of that huge banner.
- brownspank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Yahoo! Mail Beta looks too Outlook-ish IMO. It's has a refreshing look, but not enough to pull me away from Gmail.
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I really don't like thier interface. I still prefer googles simple layout and fast, and I mean fast, load times.
- MemoryDump, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I've also used it and yes I'll admit it's "nice" however you won't see me switching from my gmail account anytime soon. The new Yahoo Mail BETA seems to like crashing Firefox (latest) for me once in a while.
- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I agree with the interface being slow. I have 2 Yahoo accounts and kept one in the standard interface. No comparison, old interface is so much faster to load and change screens. I am using Firefox, I wonder if it's just a bug with that browser.
- frontpage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This pleases me for some reason.
- jj00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Like the interface and the new features, but still no spelling support for Firefox.
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The Mail Beta is imo great. It sure beats Microsoft's Live Mail. It is not fully integrated yet with other parts of Yahoo mail, for example if you click on Calendar (& Notepad), you still get to the old calendar (& Notepad) page. It does work faster than Live Mail (hotmail) and the RSS function works well.
Can you believe that Live Mail, Yahoo Mail, and Gmail are all in Beta at the same time? Yahoo definetly has to come out of Beta first, Live mail looks like it definetly needs some work. Live Mail only works in IE, but not Firefox, while Yahoo Mail won't work in IE 7, but only Firefox. Yahoo mail beta isn't bad at all, if you can definetly sign up and it's pretty good.
If only Gmail would come out of beta... - marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The NDA is hard.
- TheKillDoctor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Their receiving smtp servers are contantly overloaded causing delays. If they're fixing the frontend I sure hope they fix the backend because I'm seeing delays up to 30+ minutes for sent email to arrive in a Yahoo inbox.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"Better Address book"
How can you beat the "save every address you ever talk to" approach? With all kinds of personalized fields...
"Notepad"
C:windowssystem32notepad.exe
"Calendar"
http://calendar.google.com
"Address Guard *"
Who the hell knows what that is..
"Multiple Pop Accounts that I can receive/send email from *"
You can do this with Gmail
"Possible to sync with Palm **"
http://gmail.com - gookie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Improvement? Like POP3?
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"I actually think Yahoo is coming out with more and more better products and will eventually become a major competitor to Google...."
They already are, and have always been, a major competitor. They're also one of google's first investors.
"In all of 2005, Yahoo! brought in $5.3 billion in revenues, up 47 percent from the year before. Net income was $1.9 billion, or $1.28 per share."
"For the year, Google reported total revenues of $6.139 billion, an increase of 92.5 percent over revenues of $3.189 billion in 2004. GAAP net income for 2005 increased to $1.465 billion, from $399 million in 2004." - lmennuti, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Been using Yahoo! Mail Beta for awhile. Definitely has a nicer interface and options.
- A-Dog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have tried all of the beta programs. Yahoo was slow, but it looks like they have sped it up, which is a plus. However, people are correct about the ads. That huge banner ad on the right is annoying. Hotmail beta sucks and doesn't belong in the competition. I was skeptical about trying Gmail. I've had an account for a long time, but didn't bother to use it much. Now that Google Calendar has come out (and is way better that Yahoo's calendar in terms of use) it looks like Gmail may be the way to go. The auto save feature and the threaded e-mail, etc. are just good features. Who needs web mail to look like OE anyways?
- redlaser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yahoo offers an "alias", whichs really useful, becoz i dont have to change my real email id after iv dumped my gf ;)
gmail doesnt do that, but its got a slicker interface and it gives me POP3, i bet theyr going to be giving IMAP too soon. but even if yahoos beta is good, im gng to stick with gmail. - vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe they only wanted computer-savvy persons for the initial beta as "regular" users are less apt to forgive bugs and slowness in betas. Most people don't realize that "beta" means buggy and using a beta means a less-than-ideal, in fact less-than-intended, experience.
Also, they might want to lessen the load on the servers, as they probably have fewer mail servers running the beta version than the ordinary version as the beta hasn't replaced the ordinary version. - thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Still have to pay for a Y! Mail Plus account to get POP3.
- FeetOfStinky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Threaded mail has been a feature of several mail clients for years now. Webmail is just now catching up, but I wouldn't call it innovation.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4norbiu: that's my biggest complaint as well. Lots of cool features, but it's painfully slow. Maybe I'll have to give it a shot again
- bkmbr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The new Yahoo Mail is a good tool but GMail still better. The ads are a pain in the ass but is useable at last.
BTW, if you change the Language & Content option to English - Canada you can use the Yahoo Mail Beta and switch back any moment. - finnif, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Um, I still haven't heard anyone mention this: does it have threaded conversations like Gmail or not? That's Gmail's real innovation.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The banner grows when your inbox is empty as well. Right now it's taking up the majority of my screen. Eww.
- LordJezo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I tried out the Yahoo beta and switched back to the original view. When I use webmail I want to get on and get off as fast as possible, I have no interest in getting a full mail client in a browser. In the time that I got into Yahoo, let the thing load, and see my mail, I could have been on and off using the old version. Maybe the new beta will speed that up but I don’t see it being faster than a single page load from the old version.
The new beta is nice for the people who are looking for that kind of thing, but I hope they will keep the old view for those of us who don’t want to take the time letting a full client load in a browser. - porkbun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I have been on the waiting list for a very long time. Now it is going to become public beta. I wonder why I needed to register before.
- Dolemack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Performance seems to be at an all-time low for me. I can't get in to my account.
- JetwingX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's Because Yahoo hates having to support macs.
just look at music.yahoo.com, games.yahoo.com and MANY other parts of the site. it's slim pickings as to what will work for mac. And I agree why should i have to use firefox when i am perfectly happy with safari? - thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The latest version (0.3.1 build 209.24) is a lot faster than previous versions. Initial load time is faster then subsequent loads are way faster and switching between folders and emails is a lot snappier.
- Crazen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What are you talking about, are you even a software engineer? They could thread the email when they recieve the email. This is trivial to do compared to the custom spam you get on gmail...
- vampiro7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I don't like it for the same reason I don't like Outlook. It brings nothing new to the table. I consider gmail a different more efficient way of working with email I could care less about classifying my mail into folders.
- vortec42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've registered and have also been on the waiting list for awhile. Are there any 'invites' to get into the beta? Sucks because I've been a yahoo mail user for years, and yet sjohnson above signed up just for this and got in right away it seems?
- filovirus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Functional on G5 2ghz Powermac using firefox, barely. Sluggish and slow.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use Apple Mail to get my Yahoo! Mail on my computer - and I do not have the extra services...
One time it wasn't working properly, I wrote the support and they said it was because I didn't have the super service. It didn't make sense to me since it had been working for a very long time. It is now working again without problems and I still do not have the extra services.
Besides, I read a month or two back that Yahoo! was going to end those super services... - ptknight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've been using it for quite a while and it is really good
- stealthninjaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was looking forward to the beta for some time. Now that I've been using it for awhile I've been missing the speed of the old Y! mail interface. On that note, does anyone know how to get rid of that damn avatar? Past that I've been very happy with Y! mail. Easy to use, great features etc. I would use GMail....but I don't like Google indexing my life. They have by far the worse (meaning intrusive) privacy policy out of the major free email providers (MSN, AOL, Yahoo etc).
- hensonkid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anyone else tried it on Linux? I used it for a couple of months with Firefox 1.5 in both Ubuntu (breezy) and SuSe (10.1 beta). The first time I logged in, yahoo popped up a "this might suck on your OS" warning, but the only trouble I really had was funky scrolling. Still functional, just not smooth.
Anyone else.
It's also my feedreader of choice now when I'm at work. - Crazen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why don't you use Firefox? Safari may be faster, but couple the extensibility of Firefox + plugins, safari looks pretty stupid.
- jonathansull, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Yet again, still no SAFARI support... Plus it's still very slow for me on Dual G5 with Firefox or Camino - I don't plan to permanently use it anytime soon. I've been viewing the beta for some time now, and still no speed enhancements, still a clunky show interface, and yet again shall I mention, NO SAFARI support ;-) Why is there a lack of a good web based email client for the MAC? I don't even really care that much for GMAIL as lots of it's advanced features don't work for Safari either, and I just can't seem to enjoy using Firefox on a MAC. Firefox is great on the PC as an IE alternative, but it's not intuitive enough on a MAC.
- williamkusumo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Two more screenshots if anyone wants to see:
http://simplyweb.blogspot.com/2006/02/yahoo-mail-beta.html - spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Which other clients have this? Please let me know...
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1also have been using yahoo mail beta....nice look to it and works just as if you were using a mail client.
- valona, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have been using the Beta for a number of weeks now, and I am very impressed. It is quite slow, but they are aware of this, and are upgrading the performance. Its like a fully featured email client in your browser, drag and drop of email into folders, keyboards shortcuts. It also offers the ability to import your email from hotmail, gmail, aolmail and others. My one major quibble is the deeply annoying flash ad that runs down the right hand side of the screen. It's distracting to the end user if not flash-blocked.
Apart from that I love it, its yet another cool new product that Yahoo seem to just throw out recently. - FactorVIII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, I've been using this for about a year now.. didn't know it was a beta thing
- redandgold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i signed up a while ago, how long did it take for you guys
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Yahoo feels they should make it easy to clear your SPAM folder since Yahoo actively participates in filling said SPAM folder
