You know, that's exaclty the kind of thing I was thinking of doing when I saw the headline. This bring back memories from high school a few years back. For whatever reason, I was announced that when the network folders were uncapped. So one day I decided to find out how much "unlimited" was, and popped a 100MB AVI file on there and just kept making duplicates of it over and over again. Turns out unlimited is a shade over 1TB. - dagooh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31It's too late, I left my yahoo account to die years ago because they took my pop3 away, I don't care about the storage now, that was important when most companies were giving 1 or 2mb of storage, now everyone gives at least 1GB so it all comes down to service, right now at least to me Gmail wins in that area.

I didnt think GMail was that great when I just 'checked it out', I had to forward my primary mail to it for a few weeks and use it exclusively.
I am going to do the same with Yahoo! Mail Beta for a while, because it looks pretty slick.
Native left-click menus are nice, it doesnt keep reloading entire screens for simple actions as a good Ajax app shouldnt need to, and I never really got completely sold on 'labels' over custom folders. Plus, domains are like $2 on deal, and they have web hosting to go with it. - dungbeetle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I think he's referring to the overstuffed, ad-infested interface it has now. Gmail is clean and to the point. If they want me to use Yahoo, they're going to have to get rid of some of that bloat.
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -18/+33I like Yahoo better. Simple reason: Throwaway addresses. I can give out an address without having to incur any additional spam. Plus, it lets me track who's giving out my information. Plus, Gmail just feels kind of basic to me. With the many thousands of emails I get a day (spam or otherwise), managing those is a lot easier in a sortable table than a paged interface. The closest I can get in gmail is searching and selecting all the results, but that does result in false positives.

- nerditup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Im sure someone at Yahoo calculated how long it would take to fill up their "unlimited" storage capacity by assuming a bunch of numbers and taking a look at the max transfer size of 10mb and realized that no one could possibly fill that up. Someone on digg could probably verify that it would take a long time to actually fill up the space even if you constantly uploaded for x many hours.

- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7They already allow you unlimited spam. As long as it's in your spam folder it doesn't count toward your 1GB limit. I guess that in a way, Yahoo already has unlimited email storage (though I think that spam emails get automatically deleted after 30 days like they do with Gmail) ;)
