- nesagwa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Forget seeing things in focus.
Hook one up to the back of your head and keep an eye out for ninjas sneaking up on you. - norris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27A simple pair of glasses must look different in Israel.
- phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -9/+31Watch porn on the go!
- theotheragentm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Here's a crazy thought. If you have glasses that can display content, can you put cameras on the other sides of the lenses and have the images displayed into your glasses? You could adjust the focus for bad vision. As your eyes grow, you don't need new lenses. You just adjust the focus. I'm sure it's too expensive right now, but one can dream.
- stan205, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14one problem, 2D image and not 3D reality
- ArchonMagnus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Actually there is already a similar product. With an amazing original name (that is sarcasm): iTheater. I would definitely hook one of these up to my consoles/TV-out devices if the price could come down.

- sroerick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Or, you know, you could look like a semi-normal person and just get corrective lenses...

Dizziness has nothing to do with blindness. I don't get dizzy staring at my screen all day, but I sure am losing my vision. - skell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Why would you be jogging with video glasses to begin with? That's not the purpose of these.
- mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6That's actually a good idea for people who are near-sighted. Distant objects could be presented to them in hi-res clarity.
BTW...I'm talking about 'theother's comment below this. - kiltedwonder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Stan
An easy solution would be two cameras, one for each eye. You could even enhance depth perception by putting them farther apart than your eyes are. - lankybutmacho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51. Haven't products like this existed for years? Doesn't anybody read the SkyMall catalog on the airplane?
2. Does anybody remember that one Garfield and Friends episode where Garfield gets television glasses and then goes for a jog around town, causing all kinds of destruction without being able to see anything? - JesseJ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7My thoughts excactly. They're so big they would look silly even any Banana republic dictator. Even on Rambos boss.
- premedios, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think I would want to wear video glasses
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -1/+4@ phpirate
or if your lover isnt that good looking, just slip on the glasses - oh jessica alba, what are you doing here in my bed? (though she hasn't done porn..) - willgonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Go to a toy store. Pick up a view master. Look into it. You will see a 3D Picture. So basically you take the feature of these glasses. But record a movie in 3D. Then you will see it in 3D. Forget the current 3D technology of today where they use a filter. You could also do view games this way in 16.5 Million Colors. and 3D.
- vstarre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's like having a 52" Television where my brain should be. Six Years Ago.

- lnxaddct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yea but the resolution of these things are typically like 640x480 at best even on the high end models. Sony has had "video glasses", i think they are called glasstron. The glasstron glasses simulate a 52 inch screen, 6 and a half feet away. The problem is, who wants a 52 inch TV that has 640x480 resolution? Even 800x600 is way too small. The images appear large and pixelated, that is all. Until they can get small oled screens with at least 1280x1024 resolution, these aren't even worht looking at.

http://krenzel.info - retral, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I'll wear them when they look like actual glasses and less like some retarded 3d glasses.
- ptbw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow, I used to love that show. I completely forgot about it until just now
- SirCharge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you watched porn with these on you'd go blind twice as fast.
- emid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Even though this is off topic, I'll bite. Settle down with your apartheid regime nonsense. The situations are not at all comparable. Those Palestinian's lives suck, that is true. But it is mostly from their inablility to form any sort of cohesive government, which would in turn build a legitimate society which would benefit the populace as a whole. Those in the government who control the flow of money into that "country" take a whole hell of alot of it for themselves, while leaving the common people to languish in extreme poverty. You should see pictures of the insanely lavish villas they live in. I wonder where the money comes from? I wonder how the late Yasser Arafat's wife lives a multimillion dollar lifestyle in Paris while "her people" can't afford food. These people are not independently wealthy....donor countries are funding their lifestyles with what's supposed to be humanitarian aid.
As for the foreign aid Israel receives, write your congressman if it bothers you. Just remember that Egypt gets the second most money from the US, and they haven't had a real election in ummm...lets see, NEVER! This is a country that has actually used chemical weapons against Yemen and systematically brutalizes it's own citizens. Also keep in mind that while you say Israel is such a terrible country, I don't see those arabs who have Israeli citizenship running to escape to neighboring arab countries. You see for all the problems that exist there, they know that at least they're able enjoy basic human rights and have the ability to VOTE like everyone else.
P.S. Those glasses make you look like the fly. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I would if they made them look decent. Heck just think about it, if they put a zoomable camera on the glasses, you could have zoom vision. Atleast useful for the military. And then with RFID chips inside of everyone, you could identify people, heck have it bluetooth connected to your cellphone and then the internet and you can check out their myspace straight from your sunglasses. The possibilities are limitless.
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3elroy, that isn't funny nor on topic. If anything it shows your prejudice and uneducated.
On topic, I would wear video glasses...yes. Not if they looked like a little plastic set of glasses from a 10 year olds spy kit though... - funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, I would wear them. Imagine watching DVD's in a coffee shop this way.
- joshHighland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i would love a good pair of video glasses, i wish these looked better
- smithchr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hopefully these would cose less than 2500 bucks each, tho...
- MrGeneric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think I will wait until they are1680x1050 pixels (per eye) and therefore 3D, also switchable between screen and overlay mode, with a connection to a portable computer. If they had twin mics and video cameras that would be very cool, with the video cams letting your computer understand your gestures. I think they still have a looooong way to go before I'd spend big $ on such a device.
- kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd wear them. But I bowl in clown shoes, too.
Just how I roll. - jpdoane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"not 3d reality"
Actually - the image would be in 3d - each eye can gets a slightly different picture which makes 3d. I don't know about using this as a replacement for glasses - that seems a little far fetched. But in general this has the potential to be an amazing display technology (I realize this isn't exactly a new idea, however). It would be really easy to create 3d games or movies - not 3d as in, gosh that looks photo-realistic, but actually give you depth perception, way better than any red/blue pair of glasses can do. Think of the possibilities...
Oh - I just read the article more closely. They can't actually display two different things for both eyes. Theres a signle tiny display that gets magnified and send to each lens. So all this stuff is irrelevant for this particular thing, but its a cool possibility none the less - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My dentist has a pair of these you can watch while getting your teeth cleaned.. he's had them for a few years now, and they're much smaller that those things.
- barristerb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ugly or not, I'd wear them on a long airplane flight.
- endtime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seems like the kind of thing that won't be refined to the point of usability for 5-10 years, but we can't get there without this sort of pioneer work...would be cool to have HUD for life. :D
- jetpig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how often will they snowcrash?
- bmcnally, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It will be even better when they are modified into a HUD. For runners or bikers, it might display heart rate, breath rate, calories burned, obstacles, etc. For technicians or doctors, it might display diagnostic data/relevant data to the operation at hand.
- Nukem945, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or they could make a cool hybrid sunglasses model a la True Lies (worn by the Governator), where one eye was a hooked to a camera, and the other eye was just a normal sunglasses lens.
- rydawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just don't try to walk while watching a movie
I can see it now, "Oh, no I didn't have a few too many drinks, I'm just watching Star Wars, the Battle of Endor" - jacks0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Assuming you bought these things.... Who the hell would buy them so they could watch some dude surf (look at the link)?
- sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a part of sci-fi which unfortunately has never garnered any serious amount of success or attention.
Yes, we're ready for our 3D glasses. I want to wear my monitor, instead of staring at some huge 19" block of glass all day. - DigitAl56K, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I doubt that would work. First of all, you would have to be near sighted. Second, the display is not going to reproduce distant objects differently than near objects, so I bet you will either get eye strain or further weaken your vision.
The problem you are trying to solve is in how your eyes respond to light that requires varying focal lengths to form a sharp image on the retina. Using this display doesn't solve the problem, it changes the problem (the focal length to the displayed picture will hold constant).
If you had auto-focus cams it might work, but you'd really weaken your eyes further. - djdole, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@otherland
Yeah, Israeli people are ALWAYS oppressing everyone...
because you know how badly Jewish people oppressed the Nazis... o_O - smithchr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What about the focal length required to view these glasses? I know that this could easily be a *very* uncomfortable thing to look at if I have to keep my eyes focused to a nose length. If I can relax my focus somewhat and still be able to see this display, it would easily be comfortable. That, to me, is the main difference between a large tv at a distance and a little screen next to my nose.
- yottabite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so... robocops?
- Erty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While the technology may not be ready I can definitely see this becoming something awesome in the future. Imagine in a couple decades, we could have glasses (or even lenses) with some super high-def resolution, and good cameras in them. Even for a person with good vision that would be awesome. Imagine being able to zoom in on stuff far away etc :)
And having a HUD irl would be cool aswell of course. - fitchmicah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To be honest, I think they look kind of cool. I wouldn't show them off to a girl or anything, but I think they are way less cheesy than those suburb glasses people are wearing these days.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How innovative! Not. At all.
But it looks like a good leap forward in terms of weight/thickness. - ProfessorRiffs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Jordi
