- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Hey man, if the media hypes your products up, you'd better deliver!
Or else...
...they'll kinda make fun of you a little. - 9mmCensor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Hmm interesting they knock apple for releasing the hifi and other products, for being overhyped, and yet it was the media like cnet that overhyped the product release, not apple.
- cyclotron, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20#4 "Apple jumping the shark" - Apple didnt create the hype! Sites like Digg, Slashdot, Engadget and Gizmodo were responsible for the hype.... sheesh
- stevesearer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Too bad cnet's own download.com is what made kazaa so easy to download in the past. Millions and millions of downloads.
Side note: Who still uses Kazaa? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12>> what they announced should have been done on an mtv special not some fancy webcast.
They didn't announce them in a "fancy webcast." It was a tiny event of about a 100 people in Apple's friggin' cafeteria. The media overhyped it. Apple, as usual, said nothing at all. - cozinator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11This made me spit out my soda
"Worst name for a product that's supposed to go in your living room: Biohazard Media Center Xpress " - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Doing business there trumps all.
- antgoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"Disaffected:
Playing this parody of Kinko's is actually more annoying than working there."
NOTHING is worse than working there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I think women who like "cute" shapes are the only ones who would carry around a music-playing bean. A music-playing bean! IT'S A BEAN!
- m00t, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I am not sure when this came out, but I vote for the DVD Rewinder .
- ardellin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7my fav line:
"Is the RIAA in on this? It should be, because this P2P app is the best argument against illegal downloading we've ever seen."
hahahaahah - tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Worst Website of the year (so far, and from previous years) : Cnet
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8for people who aren't used to those forums, they are a real pain in the ass. Every once in a while you have to scroll down like 5 pages because 2 or 3 nerds get into a heated discussion over something like "Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Bobafett Vs Gundam"
- collywolly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+61. Windows Vista has not been released.
2. As far as I am aware no viruses have been released for it, probably as a result of point 1....
Are you an Apple fan by any chance? Only [some] Apple fans seem stupid enough to believe that Windows has 'fanboys'..... Most (all?) of them are regular users who appreciate that it is an operating stystem, with its weaknesses, not a religion that you need to force upon others. ***** like you seem to think of it as some competition.....
(And too I believe that Vista will be an overhyped pice of crap as well when it is relesed in *2007* - I just can't deal with your ***** stupid attitude). - fifaigor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The intel video is pretty funny. Of course, such things do happen once in a while. I am not so surprised about the Sony Bean being on the list either. Although I am a pretty big Sony fan, I am somewhat disspointed in their marketing strategy and design of mp3 players.
- andyd273, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Apple should know by now that with their huge following expecting them to produce loaves and fish (or cool gadgets anyway) every time Jobs opens his mouth, they shouldn't have made any announcement at all for something that small.
They would have been a lot better off just slipping them out to the Apple stores and letting the public stumble on them.
Then the media would have gave them a lot of good publicity with headlines like "Apple sneaks out another winner" instead of "Apple jumps shark..." - terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What's with all the ragging on freeware? If it doesn't come with spyware, and you can't buy it in stores, then either rave about it or ignore it.
I really don't see why these amateur developers are deserving of public ridicule. - lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Ouch, I have one of those. The Acer Aspire 3003WLCi. It is true, the battery only lasts about an hour.
In its defense, everything else about it kicks ass! - Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I have fallen victim too many times to pointless technology (COUGH COUGH WINDOWS CE COUGH COUGH). This looks equally pointless. You can browse the web. Yay. But its slow... And any page that requires IE doesn't work right. Nor do flash, or Java... And you get 2.5 hours of battery life... All for what? $700 or so? You can get a Dell Laptop running a real OS on real hardware for $500, and probably a no-name machine for less, brand new.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13This is the THIRD fanboy that is attacking Cnet for having the NERVE to say anything negetive about Apple.
Do you guys feel the same anger over the other list items? - ArmandoM, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'd like to submit a web forum that you can't reply to anyone except the first level of posts, making it difficult to follow a thread.
But I can't remember where it was. - MrCoolBeans, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"Worst product that can get you arrested and ruin your PC"
Ha ha ha, that is good.
I'm guessing people are realizing how much spam/adware/spyware is being included in some free software. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I kinda like shutdown after, it's a simple app and I use it often
- MihaiM, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Nice article, but not totally agree. I like the Nokia 770
- stringycheese, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8"Apple didnt create the hype! Sites like Digg, Slashdot, Engadget and Gizmodo were responsible for the hype"
But they did have their CEO announce a ridiculously overpriced leather case at a press conference. - keymastr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't have one, but have been eyeing it for some time. I was surprised to see it on the list.
- The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Bittorrent is great for popular stuff, but the good stuff only comes with P2P"
BitTorrent is P2P moron. - daamoth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hear, hear. Also give them an honorable mention for trying WAY too hard to be funny. Molly Wood and the other chess club dropouts are the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. I do have to give props to Bonnie Cha for always complaining that PDA cell phones are bulkier than regular cell phones. That's just great journalism.
- ThrasherC, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8What exactly is it about Sony that you like? The fact that they're in bed with the RIAA? Their proprietary storage format mp3 players? Their god-awful UMD movie plans for the PSP that all the studios are dropping? Maybe it was Blu-Ray. Don't get me wrong, I know the Playstation and PS2 are pretty cool, but as much as I dislike Microsoft I'd still rather have an Xbox. Hmm...what didn't I mention? Oh yeah -- some overpriced Hi-Fi equipment.
- bharwood18, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Seriously, can you even run Spybot and Kazaa at the same time? Wouldn't it be like "Overload!!!" They ***** each other over.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/dvd-rewinder-016644.php
2004 - ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ARES all the way.
http://aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net/ - hater2win, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thrasher, sony runs a better company than you do :D
- ref-d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How can things like "bad colour", "bad name" and "too over hyped" be used to call something Bad Tech?
Lame. - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pleanty of people use laptops as desktop replacements, and would never really know the difference anyway. I've used my most recent laptop on battery power all of twice; I keep it plugged in the rest of the time.
I have to admit, I'd be pretty pissed if I bought that Acer without knowing about the battery life issue ahead of time, though - bonyicecream, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Worst battery life: Acer Aspire 3000
*points and laughs at self!* - paulchu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3worst technology website on the internet award goes to: cnet, for shoddy reporting, lame "features," and useless articles that don't mean spit.
reported as lame because it links to a cnet article - Wonotch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Its people like you that think that anyone who decides to defend apple in any way is suddenly a 'fanboy'. By saying you wont recommend Apple products to someone because "it would make the fanboys smugger and prove them 'right'" is just as immature and pathetic as someone who has nothing better to do with their lives than to BE a 'fanboy'. Maybe you should be more concerned about the functionality of the products and their real world uses rather than being concerned about what some random people on the internet think about your purchasing choices.
- LtCarter47, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man, this was a great page! Hilarious, I love #9
- Hoohoonick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice to see that CNET is unbiased. not.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Right you are. I meant non-torrent P2P apps, of course.
- The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, 1hr battery life sucks
*looks at the 3002LC on his lap* - cyclotron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Only a moron like you would focus on a leather case and think its the main reason for the announcement. The Mac mini, designed to play media and sporting a new chip design, is just as big as the MacWorld announcements of Intel Powerbooks and iMacs. Additionally, with the iPod leading the industry, Apple brand accessories is a new step for Apple. Get over yourself and keep waiting for Vista.
- newtype1089, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was wondering why my laptop dies so often but eh? I only payed $800 for it here to the acer aspire
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i had the sony bean.... its hard to use... sonic stage sucks... its broken now because dust got inside and ruined it... and the hold button was on the worst place possible!!!! death to that little bean....
- stringycheese, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"they [Apple] shouldn't have made any announcement at all for something that small."
Not just Apple. No company should have their CEO announcing an accessory at a press conference. It's LAME and makes him look like an idiot. - Philoushka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have the Aspire 3500 and upgraded to 1gig RAM. Of course the battery lifetime has shrunk, and it's pretty piss poor to begin with. eBay has replacements up to 4000 mAh (standard is 2000 mAh out of the box).
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Bittorrent is great for popular stuff, but the good stuff only comes with P2P
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree. and besides, people are forgetting it was more than just leather cases -- the intel mac mini has some pretty amazing posibilities.
It was still over-hyped (by the media), but not as much as people say. It's all the Windows users who have iPods and wanted to see a new touch screen iPod that are annoyed -- mac users, I think, understand the importance of the Mac Mini. - mcpaige, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I talk to my iMac alot ! already !
