- beasty_dave_Mk2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5video finally!!
and that music....oh yeah....Can anyone say Top Gun on the first nintendo trying to land a f-16 on a pixalated carrier with my wee ghetto blaster pumpin' this out??
good times... - timewarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Old record holder 6.9 grams http://digg.com/links/World_s_smallest_helicopter
- brownspank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4$2000? Wow, imagine accidentally stepping on that little thing. :)
What's cool about it is that it uses two main rotors spinning in opposite direction to cancel out each other's gyroscopic effect, leaving the tail rotor to control pitch, instead of yaw. - SniperX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3His Nanoflyer is almost more impressive:

only slightly larger but near 10 minutes of continuous flight time. - DEFSMAC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3not intended for sale...damn that sucks. i woudn't mind piloting a few of those suckers around.
- green1152, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This was featured in Popular Science magazine in the latest issue. Not too new, but I dugg it for the actual website link. Thank you.
Apparently, according to the magazine it takes about $2,000+ to build that thing.
I just wish the video would have shown it flying in a straight path. - TheCardinal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3All of the indoor RC helicopters that sprung up based on his designs are pretty neat. Only slightly louder because they use gears instead of pulleys.
- ryogahibiki, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Now if only you could attach a tiny wireless camera to it...think of the possibilities! :)
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Watch out for the blade. ;)
- soupisgoodfood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3brownspank: I think "torque" is the word you are looking for, rather than "gyroscopic effect".
- cartwheels, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Awesome. I'm imagining a whole swarm of those things flying around at once, it'd be mayhem!
- dstreelm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i want one
- SniperX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5with 30 seconds of flight that's kind of pointless right now but i'm definitely liking where you're going with that!

Now, all we need is a smaller shotgun and we are in business! - cathode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Lithium Polymer- siingle cell 3.4v. (30mAh)
- PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The "contra-rotating coaxial-rotor" keeps it from "just going in circles". He just happened to be piloting it like that in the clip.
- dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah me too!
are you thinking what im thinking?...
lego man wars!!! - Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I remember that a's the theme from a history of flight series on cable from about 18 years ago. :)
- ovenmitone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry to be the one to point it out and maybe walk on pins and needles here, but yeah, that is the theme from Top Gun, from 1986. I'm assuming that's what your comment was saying, if not sorry for the mix-up. Can't help it really, I'm a big movie geek, too. But did anyone else find it amusing to hear this big, awesome, majestic 80's-rockin' song accompanying this grown man flying a teeny-tiny little RC helicopter in his living room? Just seemed to not quite fit. Did like the wee chopper though.
- zodieman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, those rocket belts from the 60s had 30 seconds of flight time too. Too bad, newer microjets and propulsion systems could possibly make those a reality.

Right, because there are no small flying things outside.... oh wait.
With highly responsive controls and well engineered flight control software devices like this could cope with a little wind. - trev0006, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Damn I want one
http://www.dpccars.com/rcvideos/rc-car-plane-video ... - mooglor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What about this little guy?
http://www.epson.co.jp/e/newsroom/news_2003_11_18_2.htm - Woknblues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn. I just got owned. I guess I was thinking "highway to the danger zone" or "take my breath away"....
- blampen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what is the name of that song. I need to get my hands on it.
- Woknblues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*yawn*.....keep on hacking away at the US... just. keep. on. hackin'.......
- RobSaint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Pity you can't get the thing to fly straight. There seemed to be no directional control. Just went on circles. But very cool non the less.
I think I still prefer the Butterfly Livingroom Flyer:
http://www.plantraco.com/hobbies/product_butterfly.html - billyliberty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1just today, hm?
also, love the music. - browell172, on 10/12/2007, -1/+130 second flying time? It's hard to get real excited about that.
- ciphex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1dugg for the video's music. oh and of course the copter is tight too.
- neondiet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1
Its not so obvious on the smaller model but if you look at the larger model, each rotor only has 2 blades on it, and they're not diagonally opposite as you'd expect. And the tail rotors only have one blade. Very strange.
I imagine these wouldn't fair too well outside though. Being so light weight they'd be blown all over the place.
I wonder where they're going with this. - Toshibi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Dang....I took it straight to the millitary application place....
I'm so sick and twisted*cries* - QpoX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I like the Bang & Olufsen TV and VHS in the background :)
- Woknblues, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1helicopter cool. dugg for eddie van halen/ joe satriani sound track, that was so 1989.... (totally not "top gun", BTW)
- palmdoc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not for sale? I want one!!!
- soupisgoodfood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm not sure what you are on about. I count 4 blades on each rotor, and 2 on the rear. Perhaps you could link to the photo you're talking about?
- paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Around 75% of the way through the video the camera pans right a little. Is there a TV to the left as well as behind the guy? Two TVs and miniature helicopters? I like this guy's style!
- blokey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Think this is the smallest rc helicopter you can buy - cool video.
http://www.buzzflyer.co.uk/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=97&strPageHistory=cat - oldmandance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Popular Science just did a story on this helicopter. More info and a better photo of it.

It's the BladeRunner II and it's like $60. The rotors are really fragile but luckily all kinds of replacement parts are available. We upgraded the battery in ours and consistently get 7-10 minutes of flight time out of a signle charge.
- rodbibeau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1in RC heli communitys like runryder.com.....this is very old news. like years old....
- haiweigh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2IMHO it looks like it's swinging from a string, not flying, the blades look like they are moving tho.
- tmibiker2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it was on PopSCi a month ago
old news guys and girls - yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow.
- DuffDemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I have a couple of slightly larger versions made by a different manufacturer that work on the same system. They have a tendency to rotate too but with a little practice its quite easy to keep them stable. I think the guy in the vid is not doing them justice. The only problem with them is that they don't move forward very quickly but you can still get them to fly from one end of a room to the other. Mine cost me £20 each.
- ab500, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0So what kind of batterys do these things use? Homemade?
- Nidifice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thinkgeek has some items very similar for sale.
http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/rc/79c7/ (closest to the helicopter)
http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/rc/7a1f/ (believe its sold out)
http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/rc/7397/ - PhotoShap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I have a larger but very simmilar chopper that seems to be as talented at going up and down. The problem that they seem to have in commen is that doing anything else is pretty limited. That being said, there is a certain cool factor to this tiny toy.
