- CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39No, this has nothing to do with Skyscrapers and I don't know how I could've "convenienty" find a story that just came out in the news today
- urbanrant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I have been to the current Tokyo Tower. The most interesting part is a plexiglass portion of the floor measuring about 2" by 2" which you can stand and look down. Scary.
- jjb123, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Come on US, lets get back in the game!
- lo0ol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"KTHI-TV Tower in North Dakota stands 629 meters high"
Wow, digg just for new information about my home state. Who would have thought we could claim a record to anything but a low population to cows ratio. (Jokes aside, I love my state.) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8What's the point, as soon as Ultraman and Godzilla fight, they're just gonna crush it in the rumble, when will the Japanese learn. ;-)
- BlindIrishman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7We need to build a 3 mile high wi-max tower that gives coverage to all of north america.
- Asniper, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12cn tower has the same thing.
- avantretard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I love those things. I got straight up yelling and screaming when I leaped on top of it at the CN Tower. If you want to freak people out, I highly suggest overcoming the fear of death (hard I know, but not impossible considering that those things are never going break under) and doing so.
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That gold colored building in the forground is designed to look like a beer mug. It's a Japanese beer company headquarters. My wife and I were on a ferry on that same river in September and the ferry announcer explained to us the nature of that building.
Here's a better picture of it:

Pretty cool eh. :) - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"New Tokyo Tower will top the world's current tallest self-supporting tower, the 553-meter CN Tower in Canada's Toronto. "
- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Thats funny, the skydeck in the CN tower is above the roof of the sears tower and you can stand in it.

Isn't it fun to check your "facts" before you start making an ass of yourself and have someone call you on it? - aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I live in ND and was raised in Fargo and just about a year ago found out about the KVLY tower.
The KXJB-TV mast is the second tallest artificial structure, which is in North Dakota, as well. - axiomofstealth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Will it broadcast Slayer?
- sole, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4User rating: 119304647.1 out of 5 after 18 total votes
Heh heh. - quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's all here guys:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World%27s_tallest_structures
There are plenty of different "tallest" categories to go around.
"
Fully habitable structures - Spire Taipei 101
Fully habitable structures - Antenna, Sears Tower
Fully habitable structures - Highest Floor, Taipei 101
Partially habitable structures - Spire, CN Tower
Partially habitable structures - Antenna, CN Tower
Partially habitable structures - Highest Floor, CN Tower
" - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I would like to mention something..
"User rating: 5.2 out of 5 after 14 total votes" WTF?! - trogdor282, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Skyscrapers are phallic symbols, I guess we've decided that our collective johnson is big enough...
- CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Those are buildings....the story is about Towers
- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Woot! We got 4 more years of supremecy left in Canada. I'm gonna savor every moment.
One thing I always thought was a jip about this kind of thing, is that in most of these large towers, CN Tower included, the public can only get about 2/3 of the way up... as opposed to the highest point. - cdgore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree. I hope they revise the Freedom Tower to be 300 stories.
- bchang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I live in Toronto and if you live here whats going to happen is after someone beats us David Miller is going to say the waterfront is ugly and waste taxpayers money by building a new tallest building.
If you dont live in Toronto move on. - jmnormand, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5in the US we just use satellites. no need to build an 800m tower with NASA hanging around...
- kilodelta, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5why does everyone forget about the CN Tower (Toronto), the current tallest?
- Hyperion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow, that's very cool. It's great marketing too.
- lo0ol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2lol, good catch. I just bumped it up a whole bunch. Apparently they don't check to see if the rating is greater than 5.
- AvatarReb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5key word "will"... many have tried. Until this is in fact build the CN tower has no rivals.
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2they should put a massive antennae on the freedom tower that will provide wifi to everyone in america, that would be sweet. and they could make it free, the ISPs would go out of buisness, i ahte those bastards, they overcharge big time.
- protocoI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been to that, actually, while travelling through the state. I thought it would be tourist trappy. Or at least have a sign. Instead we just drove for a while looking for how to get to it (hard when it's so gigantic, you can't really tell the base of it). And got there. And it was just... well, a tower. Couldn't take a picture in front of it, either, it was too tall, you'd need a panoramic lens. XD
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2World's tallest tower displayed in stamp-size thumbnail photo. Interesting subject, but the picture doesn't do us justice.
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2... But we won't know for sure until they release the actual number. I'm not sure why, but they've never said how tall it would be... probably because they're feeding the hype. I've heard estimations from 600m (tall, but not crazy amazing tall) to 1000m (which I don't buy). For me, that means I'll wait until they come out with a hard number before believing anything I read about it online.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What's the tallest structure outside of this planet?
- lo0ol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NeCtUr- likewise. I grew up in Fargo and had no idea. Apparently it has quite a beefy signal coming from it- think I read that it covers like 30,000 square miles.
...and a quick "go Bison" to you. :) - Woknblues, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2why the negative digs? geez, is everyone on this message board a leafs fan? i think not.
- AvatarReb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yes, but it is not free standing. It is supported by cables.
- squall458, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea if Japan did this during when the CN Tower was built, then it would be news. After that many years and only beating it by 50m or so, its not that significant. Anyhoo I'm sure someone is just going to stick on a taller antenna and BOOM, CN Tower wins again, GO TORONTO!
- gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@TheEditor1
If I really wanted to yes. - BlindIrishman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2User rating: -0 out of 5 after 240 votes
- amed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yaa i heard dubai is doing some crazy sh*t 2, they say their tower will more > 600 meters
- bmson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Largest structure in Western Europe, is in Iceland. yee...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longwave_radio_mast_Hellissandur
But the largest house in Iceland is only 80metres, not so cool :P - rockmanac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool! To all those debating... From what I gather.. This is the tallest FREE STANDING broadcast tower. The US still has the tallest broadcast towers, but they're all guyed towers. Of course, this makes the 674-ft tower @ the station I work seem small.
-A - Neon-Surge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Old news, burj Dubai was announced ages ago, besides, its going to be taller than that.
- rethin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I know that building. Its the Asahi beer hall next to the Asahi brewery.
But all the locals call it the Golden Turd.
For good reason too. - NeCtUr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmm... my statics prof told me that was the KVLY tower... but i knew nothing about it until he told us. pretty sweet that it's only about 45 min away from here (NDSU - Fargo, ND) still never seen it myself though :P
- Kakgak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Do you mean 2' by 2' (feet)?
- jadzor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's gonna be HUGE!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, you broke the internet.
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's a beautiful building.
- alc0h0lic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmm.. I home it can cope with quakes...
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2And guys the current tallest is not in Toronto, I was just reading what the tallest was the other day which I don't remember what was mentioned, but it was not Toronto.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2haha holy *****, what did you do? "User rating: -107374182.4 out of 5 after 20 total votes"
