- satanatnmtedu, on 11/16/2008, -9/+126Money counts for too much in politics.
- slapded, on 11/17/2008, -19/+117wordperfect is gay
- bf01, on 11/16/2008, -30/+124I'm going to boycott WordPerfect! That'll show 'em.
- russ3, on 11/17/2008, -5/+88I'm still so confused, how did crazy ol california ban gay marriage? I thought that state was filled with gays and hippies.
- boomchockalocka, on 11/17/2008, -67/+140I've got a couple of perfect words for him. ***** YOU.
- z00k, on 11/17/2008, -18/+74I could say "***** you" and say that I hate the guy and wont use his product, etc etc.
But truth be told, I could care less about it at the moment. It his choice and he has that amount of money to support what he believes in as I have my own money and am allowed to follow what I believe in. It's not going to stop me from using the program either, But ... That's basically because I've never really found myself "happy" with it either.
It's Free Speech and the ability to spend your money on whatever you want as long as it doesn't hurt yourself or others in an Illegal way. - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -17/+72I will never understand why people not only support a gay marriage ban, but make huge donations in order to get it banned. Why?! Why on earth does it matter what *other* people do? What business is it of yours if two loving people, regardless of gender, want to get hitched? It has no impact on your marriage. And as for preserving the "sanctity of marriage," well don't even give me that ***** excuse. Marriage stopped being sacred when people started ending half their marriages in divorce and could get married in drive-thrus in Vegas.
Seriously, what part of mind our own damn business is so difficult to understand? Here's a great idea: if you don't like gay marriage, DON'T GET ONE! - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -47/+95yes, its very brave to be a bigot
- Jenadae, on 11/17/2008, -7/+53WordPerfect?
- JasonsLan, on 11/17/2008, -2/+41Mormons....
- TheBadWolf, on 11/17/2008, -13/+46Grab your torches and pitchforks, everyone! A private citizen expressed his opinion and used his money to support something he feels strongly about! Get him!
- pardonmedoug, on 11/17/2008, -1/+30lawyers, amongst others
- jxfallout, on 11/17/2008, -1/+30Yes we...HEY, AN AMBULANCE!!!
-Another lawyer - hierophantus, on 11/17/2008, -2/+29Obviously he can do what he wants with his money. What does that have to do with whether he can be criticized for it? Freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism.
- jdfoote2, on 11/16/2008, -70/+96Good for him - regardless of which side of the issue you are on, you have to admit that it takes guts to financially support a cause for which you will be ostracized.
- travismacrae, on 11/17/2008, -15/+39That man's ideas are out-dated just as much as WordPerfect is.
- soupdawg30, on 11/17/2008, -18/+39His money he can give it to whatever cause he wants.
- ZenMojo, on 11/17/2008, -7/+28Godwin's Law? Nonetheless, well played.
- arcticsoft, on 11/17/2008, -8/+28I find it interesting that mormons are getting the shaft on this. I mean seriously, members of the mormon church were killed in the early days for practicing polygamy. Then Utah had to abolish it to be recognized as part of the US. Now that same religion gets reamed for supporting the one man-one woman idea of marriage that they were forced into. If you allow gay marriage, what will stop the mormon church from bringing back polygamy?
- ZenMojo, on 11/17/2008, -2/+22It's simple. Status has worth. That worth is measured against the status of others. If you let gay people get married and you think gay people are lower in status than you, then you run the risk of your own marriage losing its elevated status (particularly in your head, where your status tends to be a lot higher than others think it is).
It was the same argument whites made during the Civil Rights Movement. Miscegenation will make the negroes walk up to you on the street and say "hi," and no one wants that. And then one day we won't be able to stop which children are negroes and which ones are white and that will just lead to chaos! - jjustin01, on 11/17/2008, -1/+21I'll have to do something about that
-The judge - BruceAnderson, on 11/17/2008, -10/+29Well, that's just it - he HAS harmed others. He's spent money to ensure that one group of people can't have the same rights as everyone else. Not because they've committed a crime, but because they're "sinners". And there is NO legal basis for that kind of discrimination. None. Thanks to this guy, homosexuals are now officially second-class citizens in the state of California.
- AndrewMoyer, on 11/17/2008, -1/+20and therefore cannot have same text marriage...?
- TheUngod, on 11/17/2008, -1/+19I haven't used WP since Steve Ballmer advertised a clock as a special feature in Windows.
- zombiecarlin, on 11/17/2008, -19/+37His money, his choice, it would be hypocrisy to say anything else in a free democratic state.
- BradOFarrell, on 11/17/2008, -34/+51Good for Hitler - regardless of which side of the issue you are on, you have to admit that it takes guts to financially support a cause for which you will be ostracized.
- bigsteve, on 11/17/2008, -3/+19I feel like buying MS Office for the first time ever just to negate you.
Feel the love. - bigsteve, on 11/17/2008, -15/+30Did we need another reason not to use WordPerfect?
- Someguy101, on 02/19/2009, -2/+17Yes we do
-Another law firm - cmsjustin, on 11/17/2008, -4/+19No we don't
-A law firm - uberchaoslord, on 11/17/2008, -3/+18Its filled with god-fearing conservatives apparently too. You just think its filled with gays and hippies because they make the most noise.
- eekfuh, on 11/17/2008, -1/+15Also, WordPerfect was bought out by Novell (and Corel) over 10 years ago.
- kansoki, on 11/17/2008, -0/+14somehow I don't think bf01 was being completely serious...
- frieddonuts, on 11/17/2008, -0/+14The only liberal areas are the coastal counties and a couple of islands farther inland. Most of the backcountry counties are rural areas (super red), and the OC is just a ***** political mess. Most of the time the cities overwhelm them, but this time, we didn't have the minority vote so...
- hierophantus, on 11/17/2008, -8/+21He didn't equate wanting to ban gay marriage to wanting to kill millions of Jews. He was pointing out the illogical thought behind jdfoote2's statement. That would have been obvious to you but for your projection problem.
- theOster, on 11/17/2008, -7/+19anyone think making an analogy to hitler is a bit much? i mean, i dont think marriage should be a legality issue anyway, but to equate someone not approving gay marriage to someone that actually killed millions of innocent people is a little extreme.
- barfooz, on 11/17/2008, -0/+12Well, there was the 70% of black folks and 53% of Latino folks that voted it down...
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/polls/#CA ... - schrutefan, on 11/17/2008, -2/+14WordPerfect is already being boycotted for sucking.
- tommytrc, on 11/17/2008, -6/+18Its amazing how the tolerance door only seems to swing one way! If you are on the proper side of the door its okay..if not, you get slammed, boycotted and flamed.
- tonberryqueen, on 11/17/2008, -4/+15New record for Godwin's Law?
- incandescent, on 11/17/2008, -5/+16Does that include al Qaeda and neo-Nazis?
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -2/+13What hierophantus said. Seriously, when will people stop pointing out the obvious and focus on the issue? He has a right to do it, we have a right to give him ***** for it.
- surian, on 11/17/2008, -0/+10Well, now it can't marry Microsoft Word or Open Office. It will have to settle with marrying notepad.
- SpinningHead, on 11/17/2008, -5/+15I'm just guessing here, but I'm gonna bet that boomchockalocka didn't sponsor or support a bill banning hetero marriage. Being tolerant doesnt mean that you refuse to call a bigoted douche bag a bigoted douche bag.
- x713, on 11/17/2008, -0/+10I have lived in California all my life, and I expected this outcome regardless of how much money was spent. California is somewhat socially conservative. I figured the Mexicans and blacks were going to vote for the bill, but I didn't expect so many Mexicans to vote against it. In that regard, I think this was a success. It brings the chance that with a few years down the line the gay marriage ban will be over.
- pardonmedoug, on 11/17/2008, -6/+16He's expressing distaste at someone who has been highly and overtly INtolerant.
- bertrancito, on 11/17/2008, -0/+9I think bf01 was being sarcastic.
- rendersan, on 11/17/2008, -2/+11Yeah, at this point in the game, a boycott of WordPerfect would only be a boycott of Canada.
That'll show 'em. - inigomntoya, on 11/17/2008, -0/+9For some reason there is a group of guys that I work with who have been here for 10 - 15 years who absolutely LOVE WordPerfect. Anytime they are forced to use MS Word for anything, you hear groans from them corner.
WordPerfect was a very nice program until it was sold off to Novell. Novell tried to use it as their cash cow and ignored the user base. MS Word saw a niche, made things prettier and easier to use, gave their software away to Colleges and Universities and, well, you know the rest... -
