- Shogi, on 06/20/2009, -4/+129Pretty soon we won't be able to use "low battery" as an excuse to hang up on ignorant *****.
- Falldog, on 06/21/2009, -0/+102"Sorry, I'm in a low electromagnetic energy area"
- hawkspur, on 06/21/2009, -0/+72Tesla ftw.
- blackninja543, on 06/20/2009, -7/+66Just wait for the wireless/solar/wind/whatever the hells better then fossil fuels tax.
- mohsenxp, on 06/21/2009, -1/+52have no fear, it is your ignorance that is causing this fear.
- badqat, on 06/20/2009, -0/+51What? (static) You're breaking up, I can't (static)...click...
- CATSCEO2, on 06/21/2009, -2/+48Radio waves are not ionizing radiation, don't worry about it.
- maximilen, on 06/21/2009, -2/+47Too bad he was pretty close to perfecting large-scale wireless power transmission nearly 100 years ago, but was shut the ***** down by the big shot investors because they knew they could hardly make as much money on providing wireless power to citizens than if it was wired (i.e., if someone simply bought or built an electricity receiver, they would get free power, as there was no way to meter wireless usage and monetize it)
Tesla invented the radio actually, and the ac current that we use today.. He was a more brilliant inventor than Edison and most others, but wasn't good a business man. He died poor :/ - mface, on 06/21/2009, -8/+46It's kind of worrying to me that there's enough 'ambient radio waves' to power a mobile phone.
- bromac, on 06/21/2009, -3/+39Nokia is still by far the largest smart phone manufacturer in the world, despite what the fanbois on here think.
- mohsenxp, on 06/21/2009, -1/+34What...seriously what!?
How does a phone that utilises preexisting electromagnetic waves increase the risk of cancer for anyone!?
argh the stupidity kills me. - inactive, on 06/21/2009, -0/+30soon that won't work either..
=[ - Killbot2015, on 06/21/2009, -2/+32Yes, I can't wait for the day that I can ditch this gas powered cell phone.
/and then I have to explain that I'm being sarcastic. - benicillin1, on 06/21/2009, -1/+29the wire company isn't gonna like this one!!!
- bluefunk91, on 06/21/2009, -1/+27You can't spell "Nikola" without "Nokia."
- robmausser, on 06/21/2009, -0/+25You: "Sorry, I'm in a low electromagnetic energy area"
Other Person: "Don't these things run off of radio waves? Don't they also use similar waves to communicate? So...if I can hear you speaking... doesn't that mean you should have power?"
You: "uhh...*****!" -click. - mrjit, on 06/21/2009, -2/+26City is and Town is what?
- robmausser, on 06/21/2009, -0/+23no i'd probably apologize to them for some ***** idiot relating this somehow to the holocaust.
- jftitan, on 06/21/2009, -0/+21@jonathanhucke
"damn ***** phone, keeps turning off in the middle of the , " *click.
Loss of signal, dead battery... there will always be a way to hang up.
*throws old MotoQ at wall* - RobotWolf, on 06/21/2009, -0/+21WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
- strangewill, on 06/21/2009, -0/+20Why? They've been around for much longer than you have.
- ThraxyWaxy, on 06/21/2009, -0/+19"Sorry, you're an ignorant *****."
- Brassbud, on 06/21/2009, -4/+22Nokia iz in ur airwavez, abzorbin ur energez.
- unbenamtl, on 06/21/2009, -4/+22That's somehow making me feel uneasy...
Also: "provided you're not stuck deep underground where radio waves can't penetrate" .... dude, I wont be making any calls if I'm deep underground where no radio waves can penetrate... - HonoredMule, on 06/21/2009, -0/+15Can I have it? It would make an excellent conversation piece, and for an icebreaker at parties, I could explain why my pants are on fire.
- inactive, on 06/21/2009, -0/+14Sorry, I have to shove a remote up me arse
- eramos, on 06/21/2009, -2/+15"That's somehow making me feel uneasy..."
Continuing the nation's reliance on making scientific progression based on "gut feelings" instead of logic and facts. Just like we don't research stem cells because IT DONT FEEL RIGHT - redfred18t, on 06/21/2009, -0/+13Dey took arr jerbs!
- Plopfish, on 06/21/2009, -0/+12Ehhh sounds iffy. Correlation does not imply causation. Meaning it may be that the type of people (and training they go through) are then used to getting little sleep and will function just fine.
It probably also has to do with not having any natural cues as sunlight and nighttime when at sea.
First, please link to this study. Second, it's probably hard to objectively quantify that someone's 4 hours was "just as good or better" than another person's 8 hours. - sblakesley, on 06/21/2009, -0/+12Right ... on the other hand it could be that when you're in a basement, or a small town, or camping in "the middle of nowhere" there is less ambient noise, ambient light, etc, etc ...
- mohsenxp, on 06/21/2009, -0/+11haha that evil wire company!
- daGUY, on 06/21/2009, -1/+12If they could actually harvest enough power this way, the phone would never even have to recharge - it could just feed off a constant supply of power. Cool.
- turpenine, on 06/21/2009, -0/+10shows ownership as well.
- robmausser, on 06/21/2009, -0/+9has anyone also noticed that with a decrease in the number of pirates, there has been an increase in global warming over the same time period?
Therefore, global warming is caused by a lack of pirates. - mkamal, on 06/21/2009, -0/+8http://www.badassoftheweek.com/tesla.html
- Falldog, on 06/21/2009, -2/+10Apple will apply this to their iPhone a year or two after everyone else has it to much media hoopla.
- woodyex1, on 06/21/2009, -0/+7This is quite possible the coolest thing I've heard of. If Nokia can bring this to the market place they will no doubt take back all of the lost market share.
- MacGyver2210, on 06/21/2009, -0/+7Hell yes!
Introducing the Motorola Muon®! Now with 5 times more Neutrino collectors! - Kristijan12, on 06/21/2009, -0/+6Isn't a town like a small city?
Not native English me. - depro9, on 06/21/2009, -0/+6TESLA TESLA TESLA TESLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111111
- Killbot2015, on 06/21/2009, -0/+6The vast majority of radio frequency energy on earth comes from the sun so if you want to find this calm and relaxing place you're referring to then head for the nearest lead mine and pitch tent at the bottom.
- BIGJOE1975, on 06/21/2009, -0/+5Who needs an excuse?
- morepowerr, on 06/21/2009, -0/+5If that is true then they could use any frequencies. They could tap in to the the radio waves being sent out from the sun and charge 24/7. Because There are some waves from the sun that pass throw the planet atmosphere Day & Night. there are also radio waves from space it's self.
- mohsenxp, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4hahah
- UrineEngineer, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4The signals spread in EVERY direction, so your phone will only capture an insignificant portion of it.
- 1shawn, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4Nokia phones are awesome. They normally pull in weak signals better than any other brand.
- helwa1988, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4this i why i love Nokia!
- inactive, on 06/21/2009, -0/+4This one will work for the imaginable future:
"Sorry, I have to go. I need to use the rest room." - ethana2, on 06/21/2009, -1/+5**** you domain campers. All of you.
- jwolcott, on 06/21/2009, -1/+4But will it blend?
