- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20they probably hired a company to make it for them. That company probably does a lot of design work and works mostly with Mac's. It's not a big deal. Microsoft probably didn't even know/care that it was made using a Mac.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25Overall Power? What? Mac's use the same hardware!
- cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19What next? A United States flag made in China?
- corevette, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19upgrade your Firefox version!
- gamebittk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18I agree that Macs are great machines, but this is made with Photoshop, which has the same functionality in all versions, Windows, or Mac.
- macgabriel87, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16yeah, but its the fact that they are actually using a mac that makes the difference. if all versions are the same, then why did they pick a mac over anything else?
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It isn't MAC goddamnit.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -9/+17A Mac is a PC.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I love you.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5its not like microsoft actually makes the ads.
- KWhat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@Schu
First of all please note that Macs are PC's regardless of their hardware. The term you were looking for was IBM Compatible.
Second, jer2eydevil88 and unloud are exactly right! Mac's are using the exact same hardware as the IBM Compatible. The only real difference is that Mac has much better quality internals than your average Dell or HP (64 bit PCI for example) which makes the Mac even more powerful. Now they use to lack in software a long time ago but that has changed with Mac OSX and the Intel chips. I am seeing more and more applications being ported to the Mac after this cpu switch, probably because its easier to port a x86 Windows app to x86 BSD than porting it to PPC Mac OS9. I have a feeling this trend is going to continue and Mac is going to keep gaining ground in the PC market. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Truth is...

- MasterChi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm not sure what is so surprising here, Microsoft might not "openly" admit to using Mac's but they do and they employ people to work on Mac's at Microsoft. See exhibit A:

**Not my blog nor blogspam, just an example** - nicerobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The price difference is mainly in the OS. Mac OS X comes with a lot of software that you generally have to buy for MS Windows. If you don't want built in PDF, rich text, photo management, MP3 player, e-mail, address book, calendar, video and text chat, developer tools, movie production including music and web support with all this software siting on a tried and true, safe and secure OS core with 40+ years-of-development and use, and a far easier-than-Windows OS GUI (It is! Without question. if you don't believe me, you're an MS fanboy) then you don't want a Mac. That group is generally just gamers because even the security and ease of use features are a benefit for the only other potential non-users, businesses.
I've switched 3 families and several friends to Macs, about 10 people total and every one, completely loves it and will never go back to use MS Windows. I used to have to support many family and friends with Windows questions. Once they go Mac, I never get questions about the OS after the introduction. - BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Perhaps the outside advertising company Microsoft used for the ad used a Mac to make the ad. Microsoft themselves probably didn't make the ad.
- macinnesm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What has the make of computer used by the graphic designers got to do with the advertising message in this campaign??? The submitter can't even spell his own web address correctly on his profile...
- mpeters13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Flame Bait... But it still made me laugh :).
- aliguana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1most design studios/designers use Macs, so whats so surprising about this?
I doubt that graphic was designed in-house, but if it was, you can be there is a large mac presence in the office. - KWhat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@jer2eydevil88
I actually dislike Mac's as the don't suit my needs very well, Hence my Gentoo icon. I see you have an Apple icon so it seems a bit ironic that your accusing me of Apple fanboyism. =P - pathy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If they hired an outside designed to make the ad, it's probably them that was using the Mac.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft had a few Macs kicking about the place to do some editing, etc, if the designers they hire prefer the platform.
I really doubt Micrsoft care a whole lot what platform their employees use - Don't they all get near free copies of all Microsoft software anwyay? - Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"First of all please note that Macs are PC's regardless of their hardware. "
This is a matter of if you'd apply modern de facto meanings or not to the term. But yes, it means "Personal computer" and the term was actually made popular by Apple in the 70's, just that "PC" has been used as the contracted form for IBM compatibles since the early 1990's, so it's not something I'd really blame a user for "misusing" unless it would be something I'd just feel being anal about. ;) Today, it's probably more used as a contraction for "IBM PC" than the general meaning as "Personal computer" from the 70's. - TheFlush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Graphic design studios are used to using macs, because years ago macs were actually better for graphic design. Nowadays it doesn't really matter anymore, but many people think/believe that you HAVE to use a mac if you're a graphic designer.
I'm a graphic designer myself but I don't actually care what platform I have to use, they are both great and have their own advantages. Although I have a slight preference for Photoshop on Windows. - kazuhima, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2haha thats sad.
- mushroom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The company i work for never dose their ads or website in house its much cheaper to go elsewhere. Just some more propaganda for you fagboys
- btitus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really, welcome to 10 years ago. I think the zealots were tittering with glee about this same thing on some ad for the Win95 launch. So tiresome.
- asvasv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Had they done it on purpose, it'd be a fantastic advertising ploy - after all, if this had been made on Windows, very few diggers/diggas would ever have seen their ad.
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What? Mircosoft using the right OS for the task (Macs are generally better for video/graphics work? Or that someone bothered to view the source of an image as text, then make a big deal about the fact the Mac' version of Photoshop was used on the Microsoft site? (In which case, I agree)
But as said slightly higher up, Microsoft probably either got an external graphics design company to do the graphics, or hired a graphics designer - And there's a good chance that either way that would use OS X.
- Ben - saxman31, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can' help find a little humor in this. Although, it just defines the market share a little more vividly than some would like to admit. Let's face it, Apple is not going to rot,and Windows can't be broken anytime soon.
- mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1OMG!!! This type of thing could create a hole in the space-time continuum and lead to the end of the world!!!! /sarcasm
Grow the ***** up - why do fanboys think that it's not possible to use both Windows and Macs. Just because they use a Mac to create an ad for Windows doesn't mean *****. Some of these Apple articles on Digg are really starting to bring the whole site down.
And yet it always hits the front page....so sad. - deberdtjonathan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This could have been done by an external firm.
- Starship, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6looks like Microsoft CAN do some things right ..
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I hate to put it this way but KWhat you are spreading fanboyism to a degree.
"The only real difference is that Mac has much better quality internals than your average Dell or HP"
I pulled some ram out of my Powerbook in 2005 to replace it with a larger dimm, in January of 2006 I was upgrading my Mom's Dell Inspiron 9300 and it had the exact same brand and model of DDR2 4200 ram. Off hand I cannot recall this brand due to the time but I have both dimms sitting in my desk drawer at home.
Only a true fanboy would go on to brag that Apple uses better hardware, all the companies use the same hardware in their high end systems, they buy it in bulk from large vendors and then they slap it into their casing. Apple separates itself by providing excellent support and offering its own operating system. - rm999, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Don't mod Schu down, he is very correct. Macs are great at video and photo editing, but more than 90% of the useful software written in this world is incompatible with a Mac. As far as the "power" remark, maybe he doesn't mean in pure cycles. Perhaps he means in what you can do with the computer. In that case, as a computer programmer and researcher, I agree. Sadly (or perhaps predictably), no single computer can do everything right:
Linux = power
OSX = usability
Windows = compatibility - Willeth, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Buried as lame. There's nothing of value to this; a fanboy's observation, nothing more.
- OOTay, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3must be bill gates as a kid...
- Schu, on 10/12/2007, -37/+30Thats not so shocking. People don't seem to understand that Mac's are great machines for doing video and graphics. But when it comes to overall compatibility, and overall power, a PC wins hands down. Mac's are good machines just look at that photo, it nicely done.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2WOW OMG WOWOWOWOWOWO NO WAYYY OMGGGG WOWOWOWWOW
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -19/+3MAC is predominent in the graphics industry, most designers use MACs. Because they always work. lol.
