Zach Morris, say hello to your new phone. - waiwai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2>1 gig of ram? but why. That seems like it would just use up more power.
It only has 128MB when running in cell phone mode (and battery life goes from 3-4 to 8-12).
>10 Minutes to boot up before you can make a phone call.
That's why they have Windows Mobile running as well as WinXP.
RTFA guys. - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Also, here's the link to the product: http://www.dualcor.com/
- boicraig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Sorry boss, my phone crashed!"
Looks spensive... - xsxs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Unfortunatly when you turn it on it will take 10 Minutes to boot up before you can make a phone call.
- h2d2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Majin_Raditz: That ***** OS powered your moms ***** PC, and 90+% OF THE REST OF THE WORLD. Doesn't It?
I love this device, but $1,500 is a bit steep. May be $600-700. Oh, and they have to put WiFi in there... I understand that there's a CF-II slot, but you can pack a gig of RAM, you can surely put a wireless controller chip in there too. - MaxxSmart, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1found a pic: http://www.brighthand.com/images/DualCor_cPC_1.gif
- bigred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Logically, it's the next step in phones. Cell phones these days are already running pretty complicated operating systems, with lots of memory and many many proprietary apps, so they improve on that by making it compatible with all windows applications, which could be installed free, and have compatibility with existing document formats, and you people complain about it. Price sounds reasonable considering a Blackberry costs $600 to buy outright, and it doesnt have nearly as much potential functionality.
The design of the phone itself could use a bit of work, but get it a bit smaller, mass produce to lower cost, and it has a lot of potential. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1faster processor + no screen + monitor outputs and you got yourself a really small computer.
- camtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Company photos:
http://www.dualcor.com/photos.html - boicraig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh yeah i forgot to add
moo - NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice
- cockbadger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How about a laptop, a cell phone, and a roll of duct tape? I'm think that would actually be a better deal than whatever the hell is coming from this.
- lart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"a 1.5GHz C7-M processor from Via Technologies and 1GB of DDR 2 memory"
1 gig of ram? but why. That seems like it would just use up more power. - bndocksnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0there's a market for this, but not a big one at that price...bring it down under $1k, and subsidize it to around $700-800 with carriers, and you're in much better shape. question, would you make a profit?
- crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not a smart move.
- oneSaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What a joke! Why are interactive designers getting so lazy! god damn it, winXP blows in desktop usability, what makes them think it'll run better 1/4 of the size. one word, Exposé.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0too bad you couldn't play games on this thing, if you had something like this only faster, it would sell. It would be like a PSP only a WAY better. BF2 on in your hands.
- fli7e, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg for the humor of it.
A nice idea, but implemented too early to do well in a consumer environment.
Nintendo Virtual Boy anyone? - Eric4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ttt_travis: It already has a monitor output, plus USB so you can plug in a keyboard/mouse. I travel so much this would be perfect if it wasn't that expensive. I could use it during the day and dock it once I get home and use it as my desktop PC.
- RBasil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love my HP6315 and this sounds cool, but talk about U-G-L-Y!
- Sofa_King_Jank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pointless. I have leave my desk and call someone just to get away from XP.
- chuckmagnum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sounds like a laptop you can hold to the side of your head.
- EliasBaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't tell exactly what the graphics capabilities are - memory, support for 3D, etc... Basically, can you run SecondLife on it? If so, then maybe Stephenson's Hiro Protagonist from "Snow Crash" may not be that far in the future.
- waiwai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>t's not Windows XP, it's not Tablet PC, it's Windows Mobile
Another person who can't read. It runs both the Table version of WinXP and Windows Mobile at the same time and can switch between them. - hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fantastic! If they get WiFi on this I'll be first in the queue. Not sure I'd use the phone function for talking though, probably stick with a smaller phone for that
- glitchbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0unless they want to make a tri-mode cell phone I say no go. Hell I want the current cell phones have two OS's as it is. One very basic no eye candy aglore, just a simple screen showing the number you dail and that is it, maybe even use a b&w calculator screen. Or red. I remeber my bro had a cell phone that had a red lcd and that thing could last an entire week or more with one charge and it was freaking small even then.
- bytefoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But does it run Linux?
- tidejwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh yeah, and who wants a portable computer without built in wi-fi?
- Mankyman6, on 02/29/2008, -0/+0Hey people, if it didn't have built in wi-fi then why would it have an internet explorer on it?
Idiots... - NidStyles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"But does it run Linux?"
Oh, it will. It will. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0XP on a Cell?...wow were reverting back to the 80's "Brick" Phone..If your too young or don't remember here's a pic:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/1775000/images/_1778067_fonecash-bbc300.jpg
boicraig = LOL! thats a good one...*ring*....*ring*..... ***Blue Screen of Death*** - tidejwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOW, I told myself if it was under $1,000, and if I could get it to work on Sprint, I would buy one! Then I saw it's $1,500. . . forget it, wait a couple months and someone else will make a better one for cheaper and steal the market.
- XServe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is freaking AWESOME !!!
- groov, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What kind of self loathing masochist would want Windows XP on the mobile!!?
- okto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh yeah, Expose sucks. Apparently a window-management scheme so good it makes people to buy multi kilobucks of hardware is just not that exciting. At least it doesn't have to deal with apps that all want to be fullscreen. Multitasking my ass.
Also, who the hell would want Windows on their cellphone? The only reason Windows has succeeded is that it runs on commodity hardware, and it keeps being successful cos there's no "just works" alternative.
This could not be further from the case with phones. - Majin_Raditz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1To bad it's stuck with a ***** OS....
- Kashey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm getting tired of this. Who the hell wants to watch movies and serf the web on the screen the size of matches?!?.
- kwreid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Another wrongly titled article.
It's not Windows XP, it's not Tablet PC, it's Windows Mobile. Big deal. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Bah, I wouldnt want one, this is pointless.
