- jturner12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2is it just me or did longhorn seem perfectly fine?
- blakee123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1who cares...windows sucks so bad. Mac OS X is the only way to go
- castufari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ah, America, Land of the Lawsuit. Does the person suing even have a product named Vista? Or does it just own the freaking URL? How many people go to microsoft.com vs going to microsoftwindowsxp.com?
I hope MS drops the piracy cops in his building to see if all of his software is legit. - mercury81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope Microsoft whips their butts, then countersues them, this type of BS is getting way out of hand. Although must likely Microsoft will just pay them to shut up like they did with the suit over the XBox name.
- xalax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It should be called
Windows "You will still need to update it in the first month of launch" - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vista is a great name...Vista meaning view in spanish = windows view
- MEvsYOU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yah.. some gay company trying to make a quick buck.. as usual in america.. lamers
- thetonio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Why the hell would this be overstepping any boundaries? Windows Vista the software, vs. Vista the IT company? The only thing they have in common is they exist somewhat in the IT realm. I swear to God, all production and creation will stop if this chilling effect from lawsuits keeps taking its course."
Well, you kind of hit it in your last statement. Microsoft is a huge corporation. EVERYONE wants a piece of the pie. Why are they suing? Sickly and sadly, because they can. - gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lets go back to longhorn! Sounds better!
- MacGyver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope they get sued and are forced to change the name. Vista has got to be one of the worst possible names they could have come up with.
- Niao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh...
What's the bet that it'll be hacked within the first 30 seconds it's released to the public because some guy got hold of a leak (think "Snape killed Dumbledore" here, people).
I bet the motivation for discovering the (proberbly sloppy) exploit was the name...
I mean come on;
vis·ta : Noun
a) A distant view or prospect, especially one seen through an opening, as between rows of buildings or trees.
b) An avenue or other passage affording such a view.
The distant prospect is the release-date and the opening is the wallets of the people who'll be buying it! - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe they'll go back to calling it Windows NT 5.2, its actual name, which would bring them back some credibility in the corporate world.
- dewey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Microsoft will win because they have the funds to place appeal after appeal, hire good lawyers, and just drain the other company untill they give up or settle.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"They should have just stuck with "Windows XP Service Pack 3""
"Right on, or maybe "Windows XP Service Pack 3 with a new GUI"
or "Windows XP SP3, now with Windowblinds!"
and of course you have to let the Microsoft PR do their thing...
"this new exclusive technology developed in house by Microsoft will let the user customize their windows experience in anyway they want. That's right, this new and exclusive innovation was developed right here at Microsoft, No one else has ever done anything like this. Ever. Lies." - muffinking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they could call it "Windows Poo in a bag" and they'd still make a huge profit.
- jamms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0windows XP = windows experience
- HesNikke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At least NT stood for something (albeit retconned) - New Technology. what does XP stand for again?
- jsk2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so who wants to register boycott-windowsvista.com? Microsoft will probably win this one.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0XP is my fave number. NT is my second fave
- Rawksteadi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Windows 360 anyone?
- phuct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+06.22 > all other
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why the hell would this be overstepping any boundaries? Windows Vista the software, vs. Vista the IT company? The only thing they have in common is they exist somewhat in the IT realm. I swear to God, all production and creation will stop if this chilling effect from lawsuits keeps taking its course.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They should have just stuck with "Windows XP Service Pack 3"
- TravisL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree, they should stick with numbers.
- selcouth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Longhorn is/was a code name. As XP's code name was "Whistler."
- jojoko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i like the name vista. its better than windows 06. omg its teh sixth windows and it comes out in 2006 how clevar.
- dreamkatcha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft uses hitmen to kill people. I saw it with my own eyes in a Tim Robbins movie. I won't be using software designed by cold-blooded murderers.
- fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How about - Windows ME 2
- Noah0504, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the name Windows Vista.
I also doubt they will have to change the name of the product. I don't think it infringes on the trademark. - aristofeles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0``Jackpot!``
(Vista CEO) - masskurec, on 03/01/2009, -0/+0the name is horrible
http://xptweak.net - digit9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"They should have just stuck with "Windows XP Service Pack 3""
Right on, or maybe "Windows XP Service Pack 3 with a new GUI" - mortis42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"They should have just stuck with "Windows XP Service Pack 3""
I was thiunking the same thing.
I do not like the name. I would have rathered 2006 or something more abbreviated. I can't exactly call it Windows VS (which seems the smoothest abbreviation for me) that's to much like Visual Studio.... - bisonium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is really no different than the morons "Tiger Direct" suing Apple over using "Tiger" as the name of the OS. One is a COMPANY, the other is a PRODUCT. These flippin idiots need to be slapped down in the court system and fined by the court for wasting tax payer money. Now I am not defending the Redmond boys, but this is a bit ridiculous. I agree that Windows Garbage sounds better. :-) Maybe Windows Caca if they wanna do the spanish thing.
- infra172, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"If they called it Windows Garbage, would people still buy it?"
If they called it Windows Garbage, they'd probably get sued by the band. - mpeters13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"My friend here said that he was expecting MS to call the next OS Windows SuperDuper Happy Fun Time Edition Plus XP"
i second this notion - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They should leave the name Windows Vista, just so you guys can all stfu. Gosh I hate all you fanboys..... Who cares, one phrase you care a bout their profit, the other phrase you care about how the company sucks.
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When I got as far as the headline, I thought it was Apple suing them.
"Microsoft may have stepped on the toes of another software company just down the road in Redmond."
When I got as far as that statement, I thought it could have been Nintendo.
Wow, the two most likely candidates are not the ones on Microsoft's back this time. Looks like momma's wrong again boys! - ajcomet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We also have a company in Australia called Vista, I hope they sue.
- motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Windows Vista......"you can literally cruise the vistas with it".
- WhiteShadow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1They should just remane it Windows Garbage like they said
