- cvminc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I really do not have that much faith in Microsoft although I do use a PC and a few of their office programs. Would I use their windows live dashboard and its one stop shop, so to speak, and give up Google etc. I don't think so.
- esofthub, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The dashboard has a “Spartan” approach — No-frills. I noticed the Inbox link had problems connecting to my mail, even though I was logged into my hotmail. But in all fairness to MS, it’s still in beta.
- pragmatron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3A good question to ask is why would MS want to release a totally online version of office when they're making so much money from it now? 2013 sounds like their estimate of when people might finally not want to pay for it anymore
- FRACAT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Here's the lesson from history: Microsoft will copy a good idea, make it work well, and then make it the default option in their next release of Windows, IE, or both. That way, even though they are late to the party, they have a percentage of the hundreds of millions of Windows users automatically.
The other lesson is that Microsoft has never been an innovator - at least not successfully. They have *always* adapted other people's products and marketed them better. They're having so much more difficulty with Google because there's no marketing involved. - otokarev, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I somehow don’t believe Microsoft is capable of competing with Google in any online services: they are so much into software, not web applications at all.
- pamil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It was about time...
- philbutler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It is always so disappointing to watch people with ALL the tools do mediocre stuff. Maybe we all need billions and Gates needs to go back to the garage for a spell. If I had these resources Google would at least be worried by my activities - they probably scarcely blink any more. How does this push them to excel? Shesh!
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why do people think MS is playing "catch up"? MS has "caught up". Google's not doing anything new, they're not doing anything cutting edge, they're not redefining the playing field. They did 10 years ago, but now aquisition is their game not innovation.
So where is MS allegedly trying to "catch up"? Search, Adwords and YouTube are the only markets Google holds an enviable share to, the rest whether you believe it or not range from smalltime to so insignificant Google's started pulling the plugs on projects. - samanathon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's very clean looking though!
- Petka, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Watching these behemoths of Industry struggle to eek out a weeks work is like watching George Bush struggle with phrases bigger than; "It's hard work people!” Brilliantly put, kudos to the author
- Ariuwield, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2How can MS even think of competing with Google? Google is providing us with Google Docs & Spreadsheets absolutely for free while MS is still charging quite a pretty amount for MS Office and they only promised to move them online by 2013. Is it how one should handle competition?
- ArahMan7, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0What? Another beta? MS got a lot to learn,still!
