- coolian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+93Hotmail? Gah. Ever since those bastards deleted all my email because of 30 days of inactivity - I was on vacation, you ***** - I've become a hardcore Gmail user.
- airencracken, on 10/12/2007, -4/+59So now my Spam account is spiffy looking?
- blubloblu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45I keep my hotmail address for messenger but I use gmail for my email. Gmail is miles ahead of windows live mail.
- VaporBro, on 10/26/2007, -6/+45Yaya another ***** service I won't use. YES!
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -5/+36@blubloblu
Can't you reigster your Gmail account under Microsoft Passport and use that with MSN Messenger? - Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Hotmail is the worst name ever, I can't believe they didn't take this opportunity to change the name...
@live.com wouldn't be too bad... - hoppdawg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Hotmail is a Petri dish of spam
- StayPuft, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1920 million beta testers and MS still produces dog poop.
- DCstewieG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16No not really. And in addition to the spam you don't want, you get nice big banner spam at the top of the page! Just what you've always wanted!
- HalFTW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@hotmail.com is the new @aol.com.
- maglob, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21I don't care if it's AJAXed, I only use hotmail still because messenger
- russianmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16They don't have Outlook Express or Outlook access on free accounts.
And if it refreshes everytime you do something, maybe the page has an autorefresh? - Attrition, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Its bulky, ugly, and is too slow to use. Faster than old version, perhaps... But still slow. Its search features suffers the same problem.
- korneelwever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12i user gmail adress for messenger. Just create a MS Passport and there you have it.
hotmail-be-gone. - wheresjim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Forget it. I'll never give up LanceArmstrongsTesticle@gmail.com!
- trollick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Ok Microsoft and everybody out there, let me explain something to you. Something so profound that you would never figure it out yourself. The whole ***** idea of AJAX was attractive because it was supposed to make things faster, NOT sooooo ***** slow to load that nobody in right mind would ever want to use it.
- Crazymaniacc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14This is gonna result in a mailservice bashing, let me start: Gmail pwns Live sooo hard!
- positron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Because they are smart enough to know that nobody outside of MS zealot developers has bothered to install the plugin.
- goettel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11It sucks: it's soooo slow, and the search is still a joke.
Gmail, thanks very much. - samgab, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Ditto to what the guys said above. Hotmail sucks. If only GTalk was better and all my friend were on it, I could dump it altogether, except of course as a handy spam account.
- markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I've been using the beta as a secondary to Gmail for a while now, and I'm really not a fan.
Although it has improved during the beta period, it seems so clunky and against what AJAX seems to have been promoting lately.
Oh, and the huge banner ad at the top really gets in the way. - HybridVigor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That's what AdBlock and Flashblock are for.
- vanscott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hotmail was pretty keen before they were acquired by Microsoft. It was my first webmail and the first email address I had outside of university. Of course it was easy to recognize fname.lname@hotmail.com compared to 941322220@*****.ca.
That said, I fought tooth and nail for a gmail invite in the first week and haven't looked back since. Not too often can you claim that the quality of a certain product or service actually improves your life in some way, shape or form. I'll say that gmail can claim this. - dogstylee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I get around 200-400 spams a day in my gmail account, and about 4 a day in my Hotmail, yet I've had the Hotmail address for a good few years longer than the Gmail address. I still use Hotmail just as my friends are all on Messenger, and I have accounts tied to it which I'm to lazy to move to Gmail.
Live looks nice though. You guys should stop bashing it and creaming your pants just because it's Microsoft. Big whoop if you use exclusively non-Microsoft stuff and Linux and Gmail... nobody cares. - korneelwever, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8They 'tested' it on Dutch users. I was kinda disappointed with the possibilities, but hey I use Gmail.
- gamebittk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I was a beta tester early on... Than I quit (abondoned my account). I couldn't get POP3 setings working, so I guess they want to stick to webmail. It's not that it's no good, it's just that they try too hard. I'm happy with Gmail, with which I was also an early beta tester, and I've stuck with it. Gmail has more of a lite feel to it. You don't need to cram so many features into email. However, if you plan on using it with an email cient, POP3 is the only* thing that matters.
- Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Way back before I really knew what the Internet was I always thought hotmail was some kind of porn reference.
Tru story. - slimbilly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8it has looked like that for me for a while now. it's too slow. hotmail is still lousy even with the "improvements".
i want speed for my email. and simplicity. i don't need shiny or a bunch of css or java or ajax or any flashy crap. just make it work quickly and easily.
the hotmail page still loads too slow. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6
Hotmail was pretty keen before they were acquired by Microsoft.
You can replace Hotmail in that sentence with anything else Microsoft has bought. - dogstar0125, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@whistlerpro, actually most of the people I chat with have gmail now. It's mostly people like Grandma who are still on MSN, and they don't really chat anyway. I like the fact that gmail integrates mail and chat -- makes a lot more sense IMO.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5heck I just use Gmail for email and messenger (gtalk and msn)
its a sweet little deal called Use the email you allready have.
https://accountservices.passport.net/ppnetworkhome.srf?vv=450&lc=1033 - vanscott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6That is you? You cannot have my live_to_felch_felch_to_live69@gmail.com addy so stop asking already ya big weirdo.
- HalFTW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes, you don't need a Hotmail account for MSN messenger.
I think now you need to register a Windows Live ID: https://accountservices.passport.net/reg.srf - fairlie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Having used Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail - I must say I think Yahoo is the most polished, Gmail is the nicest to work with (needs more drag and drop though and better folders) and Hotmail, whilst it's been improved has just become microsoft's premier adspot.
Kudos on them for giving back Outlook support for free though :) - rieuwa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@russianmonkey
Free users DO have outlook access: Get it from the Hotmail Team Blog yourself... http://mailcall.spaces.live.com - Flamekebab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I use hotmail as my MSN address, mainly because I registered it about, ooh, eight or so years ago, meaning changing it is too much hassle.
I use Gmail for everything else, I even use it in preference to my personal domain's email.
I don't use Windows Live Messenger, aMSN here, as I primarily run linux. - locnguyen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Well how come they didn't use Silverlight to make this?
- markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But having said that, https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=6563&topic=&type=f&ctx=search .
There may be hope yet! Just wait nine months and hope they haven't logged into their account till then. - markdr123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This was in the press pack:

Oh the productive email discussions Microsoft employees have. - aNTwNHs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It sucks! It's the worst ajax webmail client I've seen. No thanx...
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's great and all, but I think I'd also like to have an @live.com email address. :"(
- listrophy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Agreed. If this is a mandatory "upgrade," my mom is gonna be pissed! I showed it to her in beta, and she just froze: unable to understand the change in interface. I expect a call from her at any moment.
...and I keep telling her: Mom, seriously. Just get a gmail account. - chazzzzy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5NO MAIL FORWARDING OR VACATION RESPONSE!
What that means is that you can NEVER LEAVE Hotmail/Live once you are on their system.
I tried to get my girlfriend on my blackberry corporate email server, but she cannot forward her Hotmail email to the company account. NOR can she alert people to her new email address from her Hotmail account. So she is STUCK with her Hotmail account and can't use our service!
Just the typical way Microsoft tries to rope you in and won't let you get away from using their stuff.
All the other email providers don't do such sneaky things and let you forward your emails to another account if you want.
Microsoft really is evil. - chewy5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3non of them submitted reviews/coments/raves about how ***** it is.
- chazzzzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes sexycommando you are right.. but you can PAY for the Yahoo account and then forward your email to another account. Hotmail dos not let you even pay to forward your email.. they require you to stay with them no matter what.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4*****
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3When you least expect it.
- srg13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hmmm.. The conversations are my favorite feature...
To each his own, i suppose - srg13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gmail is better than Hotmail accounts. Even the paid ones.
- TeqnoHaxor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Haha that's gold.
