- arcticblue, on 10/10/2007, -4/+71Wait, who's been complaining about Google? Did I miss something?
- iRoy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+41I had no idea that Google bashers even existed.
PS3 bashers on the other hand... - pwallroth, on 10/10/2007, -10/+35The people complaining about google are the same people who are absolute tools. Who cares.
- ItsMyWii, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24There are Google bashers? Wtf is there to complain about?
- Bobski, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21May I have your attention please?
Will all the Google bashers please shut up?
I repeat, will the Google bashers please shut up?
We're gonna have a problem here..
Y'all act like you never seen a search engine before
Jaws all on the floor like Altavista just burst in the door
and started whoopin Ask Jeeves worse than before
YaHoo! was the first force, throwin them all over the furniture (Ahh!)
It's the return of the... "Ah, wait, no way, you're kidding,
he didn't just say what I think he did, did he?"
And Lycos said... nothing you idiots!
Lycos's dead, he's locked in my basement! (Ha-ha!)
The women love MSN, I'm sick of him
Look at him, walkin around grabbin his you-know-what
Flippin the you-know-who," "Yeah, but he's so cute though!"
I'm the Search Engine, yes I'm the real Search Engine
All you other Search Engines are just imitating
So won't the Google bashers please shut up,
please shut up, please shut up?
Guess there's a Search Engine in all of us. - Bricks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19SEO junkies. Namely, of the Black Hat variety.
- a1532b, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14People will complain about everything, no matter how good. Just ignore them. Focus on what YOU like and your life will be much happier. :)
- zanzzz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I was not aware the CIA & the NSA were divisions of Google. If you don't like your cookies stored then delete after each session and only search when not signed into a Google account.
- GerryBot, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Good post. what's better is the sound advice about giving yourself an alternative to the Google economy.
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7don't forget the mayonnaise and wooden dowels!
- Economist35, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9buried as inaccurate. the only people that complain about google are bloggers who think they should have a higher google rank
- frostmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7bad post AND you got the lyric wrong too. you win.
- JasonCox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Google is still good but they're not as good as they once were, it's called business, that's it.
- Bricks, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9"In theory you can have a system that transcends mediums and will survive everything but the absolute breakdown of human economic relations (and even then you should have a backup plan)."
So... you've got a roll of sheet paper, a marker, and some duct tape.? - YourDoom123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6... you can
- rtjac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7...and put one finger of each hand up?
- epiffffany, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Digg needs a fanboy filter.
Seriously. - Bricks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Congratulations sir or madam, you just invented a pay-site...
- stockjones, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I don't frickin care. Google is just another big corporation doing typical corporate things.
- adidos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Your post reminds me of one of Google's core philosphies:
"Focus on the user and all else will follow" - bennyfreshness, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4dude, how pathetic has the humor been on here recently, digg needs to keep stats on how much ass a user gets before he's is allowed to comment, some of this ***** is ridiculous, and then the comment gets dugg, i mean who are these poeple? ruining my digg experience
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5is it me or do digg storytellers have run out of stories?
why write a topic about something that 1% of people think - Battlecry, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Privacy nuts have been complaining about Google for awhile.
- ShogunWarPig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well, Google is awesome.......
- h0zae, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Will The Google Bashers Please Shut Up? and buy our performancing products...
/spam - Tyr7BE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Apple bashers too. Just because they make it easy :)
- geoken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think you're wrong. When someone says search engine optimization it can apply to the entity bieng optimized for the search engine, it doesn't have to apply to to search engine itself. For example, when NASA says a vehicle is undergoing low orbit optimization, does that mean that they are using some unkown process to optimize the Earth's atmosphere. When the Subaru WRC team cheif says they made "hard clay modifications" does that mean they terraformed an entire countryside?
- weaselfingers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3To be fair, that's most of digg.
- Darmichar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It wasn't funny in the other thread, it damn sure isn't funny here.
- Hawaiianteg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Google Bashers are usually the ones bashing Apple as well.
- MrSteamTank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Google is rarely insulted on digg. I honestly don't understand the point of this topic. I actually like google but the fact that people get offended or defensive that some people view google negatively is just beyond me. Google on digg is much like Apple and Nintendo. They can't really do anything wrong as far as digg is concerned. 8P
- Brahma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3FTA..
Here's the hard reality - at least ONE of your top-ranked sites will eventually suffer either through a hand-job or...
Ahem.. - Cherubim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This place is full of Sony, Apple and Bush bashers .. not that I'm complaining.
- OrangeTide, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3There were other search engines before google that used similar technology. They just didn't have the light weight home page free of banner ads.
google's main, and perhaps only serious, innovation was the proof that graphical banner ads are not necessary for advertisement revenue. - thebellmaster1x, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3JESUS, I haven't seen this many crappy-ass comments in one story since I joined Digg.
- LuckyLefty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Anyone who is a success in offering something to the general public "for free" and simply due to a good product and popularity they bash it for selling out. I call *****! Good for Google and good for the masses. Nice to have an alternative to MS. It's the same argument as MS vs. Linux vs. OS vs. Apple. Everyone is out to make a buck, but the whiners want everything for free. A little game called Monopoly...learn it. I didn't invent the wheel but I'll sell it to you. And if I make a billion doing it, the whiners will whine because they didn't get a piece of the action.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Google hasn't really done anything noteworthy in a while, which almost led me to believe that Google fanboys were dying. For the most part it's true, Google as a tech company is unusually treated just as *some company*, not good, not evil either. Their just, Google. It's a search engine...no, it's more of an information organization set of tools. Of course when you're sitting on that much information, people will raise
- lonniebiz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Don't ever depend on Google for your income. Google can be a very rash business partner. If their algorithm tells them to stop doing business with you; they'll ignore you with your money in their hands. I've had the privilege of discovering how rash and obstinate Google can handle honest people. Some of you won't believe me, but I know (in my mind) that it's true. You've been warned.
- mvandemar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"I was not aware the CIA & the NSA were divisions of Google."
HA! Shows what you know. I suppose you also still think GWB isn't animatronics? - Bobski, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you truly believe that, then you must also fear the repercussions of said unmuzzled squeal. You would certainly ascribe to the belief that any rancor must be driven to /dev/null, else your precious peace be disturbed.
- mithrasinvictus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2If you dislike Google you must hate Yahoo.

- XZanatos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The problem with Google is simply this: they have incredible amounts of power; even when they totally try to do only good with all their power that much power in one place is still scary.
- bonkeykong, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2"Here's the HARD reality - at least one of your top-ranked sites will eventually suffer either through a HAND-JOB or because of some quirk in the algorithm."
- Shiftgood, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4LEAVE GOOGLE ALONE!!!! PLEASEE.... SHES A HUMAN!!! PLEAAAAASEEE!!!
/current events - darkism, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Sorry, abbreviation's aready been established; no use trying to change it now. I suppose you're one of the people who says "URI" too, right?
- Shiftgood, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Orange... you know what i like about you? you have an excellent grasp of the obvious.
- thefinger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Google has rarely failed me. More often, it is I who have failed in my choice of search terms. For example, "nude blondes" is too broad a search. "nude blondes"+"sweden" is closer.
- raymanunique, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My Response to Microsoft's 10 reasons
1) This is probably true with current large enterprises. However, Google Apps is the still pretty new and many younger businesses (tomorrow's enterprises) are being attracted to Google Apps.
2) Currently, 5 of the 6 apps in Google Apps are beta. Google will have to move them out of beta if they want to make serious inroads into the established enterprise market. Salesforce is a good model for Google to follow in this regard.
3) MS Office + Google Apps is cheaper than MS Office + Sharepoint.
4) A good point. However, Google Apps is not Google Video. Google are in this for the long term. And while it may only be less than 1% of their revenue, they plan to grow this. Just look at the money they have shelled out for Postini and Jotspot.
5) But most users are not power users so they can make do with Google Apps alone and power users can have MS Office + Google Apps. You can turn the argument around the other way - just because a handful of users are power users, why give everyone Microsoft Office? Granted that there are plenty of custom office apps swilling around in your average enterprise so vendor lock in is an issue. However, companies like Cap Gemini offer application migration services. The reason why MS has such a huge lead is because they have been in the Office game for 20+ years!
6) Whilst Google Apps is not as feature rich, StarOffice/OpenOffice does have most of those features. So you can pretty much get the job done with Google Apps + Open Office. Companies like LimitNone are already offering tools that turn MS Office into an offline Google Apps client so removing the inefficiencies that Microsoft mention. I am positive that equivalent tools will soon be available for SO/OO.
7) Google's commitment to regulatory compliance can be seen by it's $600+ million purchase of Postini which brings security and compliance tools to Gmail. It is only a matter of time before this starts to get addressed in Google Docs. I am also sure that Google Apps and GMail will have less downtime than your average Windows desktop machine.
8) Can't argue with this. If Google are truly serious about the Enterprise then their support structure must be at Enterprise level. Maybe Google might bring out an Enterprise version which offers 24/7 support.
9) Google's strategy - use Google Apps only and then Google Apps + Staroffice/OpenOffice for people who need that bit extra.
10) Agreed. Google will need to be more open about it's release cycle for Google Apps in terms of feature set + delivery dates. - epiffffany, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Let's be frank about this. Google is not "trying to do good" in some magnanimous way. They're trying to make money. They're a company.
At the end of the day, they answer to their stock holders and will continue to make revenue producing products as opposed to "good" things such as feeding the homeless on a massive scale. (Don't reply with an example of "employee care" programs... every large company does that!) -
