- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who the hell is Adam Curry?
- erictastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In elaboration on RogueJediX's post:
Exactly. It's IMPOSSIBLE to write a totally objective biography or autobiography. Every single "My Life" book you see at the bookstore is heavily edited and prettied-up. do you stop liking all your chilhood heros because they left out the part about being an alcoholic wife-beater? i think not. Even if you hire someone to write it for you, you're going to make sure the end result reflects you in a positive light. Benjamin Franklin said in his autobiography that he came over with just a loaf of bread and the shirt on his back. Nice fiction. The truth is much less remarkable though. Our history is made on subjectivity. The end. - timmyt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who cares? He owns the site...
- trex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love digg double standards: Leo & the gang hates Adam Curry -> Digg hates Adam Curry. Wikipedia creator enhances his own role in wikipedia -> "Well, it IS his site. At least he has an excuse, unlike others we know."
Unbelievable. - RogueJediX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The founder of Wikipedia has edited his own biography. On his own site, no less! I'm shocked. This is just wrong. Someone with more information about his life should step in and write it for him. I mean, that would be objective, right?
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"If it isn't right, you can edit it." That's all I ever hear the Wiki-morons saying. Now, a guy decides it wasn't right, and makes his edits. The result: crucifixion.
Major [Digg] for blatant hypocrisy. - capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is like the Adam Curry story in that he edited a page that is obviously near and dear to him. The things he edited are also intended to improve his image. That is very much like the Curry story.
- tofuman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who would be better suited to edit one's biography? I don't see how this is news or how this is anything like the Adam Curry story?
- angedinoir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1A. "Man butters toast."
B. "Boy rides bicycle."
C. "Someone edits their own biography."
D. "Image Reflection With Canvas and Javascript."
Which one of these don't belong? - hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Noone actually treats Wikipedia as factual do they?
- capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is his site, but he wants it to be known as a serious reference source.
- RobertH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He might just be writing the truth... or what he belives to be true, he may have been given too little credit.
- ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who's to say that what it said before wasnt wrong and he just corrected it? If your biography said something unflattering like you were a bad tipper, when really it was just that one waiter who was an ass and you didnt tip him, wouldnt you edit the entry? This is a tempest in a teapot, no digg.
- MrPhelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To those asking why one should not be allowed to edit articles about himself or his works : because it would lack objectivity. Inconsciously or not, you will always put yourself in a better light than reality.
If you want to write about yourself, call it an autobiography, not a biography. - Rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Alright, let's say he pumped up his reputation on Wikipedia... So?
The rest of the community will be there to edit his objectivity. Isn't that what is great about Open Source? With many eyes, all bugs are shallow? - timewarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is only one commandment-:All autobiographies are scams and must be dugg.
- Metal_Hurlant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> Inconsciously or not, you will always put yourself in a better light than reality.
In truth, some people will consistently sell themselves short.
But that still makes your point.
Self-objectivity is like Microsoft Works: an oxymoron. - funkphenomenon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He's still listed under WHOIS as the "Administrative Contact" for Bomis.

Original Entry:
robERR is a regular guy that is an OK Halo player, hasn’t done much of note but leads a happy little life
Corrected Entry:
robERR is the king of the world, a kick-ass programmer, invented the Internet and would destroy Hiro in a sword fight; in the Meta-verse or any other ‘Verse. - MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A. "Man butters toast."
B. "Boy rides bicycle."
C. "Someone edits their own biography."
D. "Image Reflection With Canvas and Javascript."
Which one of these don't belong?
I'm gonna go with D because the other three involve someone performing an action of some kind. - richiejp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0After reading the article, I can't say I think an injustice has been done. Sounds like a trivial argument over wording to me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2What kind of a pussy is afraid of admitting he was any sort of pornographer? Jesus, grow a pair and be a man already.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If he did edit it, I would have never known because I dont care. Nor do I care now.
- digg and marked as lame - bloodylip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Alright, let's say he pumped up his reputation on Wikipedia... So?
The rest of the community will be there to edit his objectivity. Isn't that what is great about Open Source? With many eyes, all bugs are shallow?"
Until they view these page-edits as vandalisms and put them on the protected page status. Then only certain people can edit it. - hometoast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0--He's still listed under WHOIS as the "Administrative Contact" for Bomis.
and that really means squat - c0dek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how horrible! what a travesty!! It's a shame people aren't able to read something, consider it, and draw their own conclusions - we're just unlucky to have to believe everything someone writes on the internet. Damn you, Flying Spaghetti Monster, for not endowing us with critical thinking skills!
- xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Jimmy Wales:
I am omnipotent. A God. I deserve to be in the history books. And I love to take long walks on the beach during the sunset. - kamizu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0solution: stick the "neutrality disputed" thing on every auto-biography on wikipedia
seriously, we can't trust others to write another man's story. what happens when we do?
the john siegenthaler incident
we can't trust the people themselves to write their own story. what happens when we do?
the adam curry incident
you guys want to accuse jimmy wales of hypocrisy? how about making up your ***** mind. who the hell is to tell a man's story if neither the people or the man can write it? why not bar biographies on wiki altogether? - frankjmattia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well, there is that small subset of people who just dont give a ***** and will be unobjective about themselves. granted, hes not one of them - but they do exist. take me for example - i would love to be involved with a pornography site. i would also love to have my CCIE and a P.E. in civilian engineering. if i make it in life as any one of those im not going to deny the world of my love for the other two. if that affects your judgement, theres still a couple of billion other people in this world for me to associate with for the short time im here.
- zelig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
It's called an autobiography. - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0maybe he's not lying
- EmmEff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The fact that other ***** are editing people's bios erroneously is appalling. What happened to honesty and integrity?
- cakefart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey, I've heard of these sorts of crimes before. I think they called 'em auto bi ogg grahpies!
- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how is this news?
- finalcut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so the FOUNDER of wikipedia edit his biography giving himself more credit for the founding of wikipedia. I'm sorry - but if you are already listed as the FOUNDER how can you give yourself more credit for founding it?
The description of this story is patently false. It should have said that he altered the description to reduce the importance of another in founding Wikipedia. Hell the whole article is about accuracy and we can't even have an accurate description? What gives? - HighDecibel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not bad for a dead guy, assuming it wasn't a hoax. One has to wonder if he faked his death as a ploy to place him "on the map".
Jimmy wales edits his biography...thing is they don't explicitly state that it wasn't an autobiography. After all an autobiography is still a biography. As such we could say its an autobiography, a biography written by himself. So editing his own biography is hardly an injustice against mankind.
Time to check out other news I could give a crap about. - HerbSolo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whell - that's exactly what the journalist, whose name i've already forgotten again, should have done.
Edit, don't wail. - Schmitty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So two sentences is damning evidence? LAAAAMMMEEE....
- aboris26, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why is such a bad thing for someone who actually knows what is going on in a subject to edit it? I'm sure he was just removing fabrications and lies that vandals continually put up. Damn you John Siegentheller you have ruined open journalism, you cranky old fart.
- artemus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well, it IS his site. At least he has an excuse, unlike others we know.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Bah, that's crap
- CadMasterAdam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0why digg that?
- capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I care.
- angedinoir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yawn. Doesn't wired have anything better to write about?
- Sturmur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Jimmy Wales is an ass, trying to give himself more credit for Wiipedia whilst subdueing his relationship to the creation of a pornography site.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0It's NOT his site, it's the thousands of people pouring in money all the time. Also his edit shows POV... not good.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Fanboys.
- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0F*** sake people. I realy don't see why people shouldn't be able to edit information about themselves. Considering they are always the ones with the most information about their own life. Although editing it to bias towards yourself is wrong, that's not what you would probably do.
