"Omg my life sucks so bad, __(slang for parent)__ just spends all day yelling at me and telling me I need to get my life together, well you know what __(insert wanna be whitty comment here)__ because I am god dam __(add 2 years to real age here)__, and I know what the hell i'm doing. I'm a damn adult now and I can make my own decisions about my life! (fill in three more paragraphs of ***** no one cares about)."
Over 18:
"well today was another (cuss word here) day. (BF's/crush/person your stalking name here) didn't call me or even get online to say hi. WTF is up with that?!! (Write three pages worth of pointless ***** that tells everyone else how big of a loser he is and why everyone but you can see it)." - cartel, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11myspace got me laid, so i dont really care
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7http://myspaceisgay.com/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6+ No, I don't have a MySpace or LiveJournal or any other lame social networking account.
+ Saying "Oh, I only have an account to keep in touch with my friends" is *****. You know what is good for keeping in touch with people you give a ***** about? A telephone and email. Seriously - what kind of dick thinks they're so important that they need to broadcast their lame life over a social networking blog and that their friends are going to care? If you can't take the time to talk to me individually, then it can't be all that ***** important, can it? MySpace and all the rest are just places where trashy insecure chicks do their best to seem sexy and appealing to the lame insecure guys with little experience who try to seem interesting and worth screwing to the insecure pathetic camwhore chicks. MySpace is like a meatmarket for losers who couldn't hold their own for five minutes in a club or a bar. It's gross and it's rather inbred and filled with navel-gazing. If a girl (or anyone, really) tells me to check out their myspace or livejournal or xpeeps, I just tell them I don't have accounts there and refuse to participate in the sites because I prefer to get to know individuals and not their clique and not the persona they're trying to put out to that clique.
Seriously - people made friends and had sex before myspace and livejournal, you know? It's not that ***** hard. - groovytasticsam, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12myspace got me murdered, so I don't really care.
- aarplane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Firstly, this is not my blog. It's one of those blogs you check up on every so often, and this article was very intriguing to me.
Secondly, I'm in Canada and I DON'T USE MYSPACE. And I avoid MSN Messenger at all times (I'm using Adium) and prefer AIM. MSN Messenger is bloatware, like many other of Microsoft's products. Who needs emotiexpressimigowinksicons?
I'm proud to say that less than about 15% of my community uses MySpace. I hope it stays that way. MySpace is ugly and gives people false impressions that they are creative websites by copying and pasting snippets of code onto a page (and it still doesn't look good). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Myspace haters are jealous they dont get friends:p
Not really, there may be some reasons to decide not to get a myspace, but it does more good than harm. Its only the nerds that get worked up about it because theyre sore that the internet is no longer theirs. Myspace is simply the internet going mainstream to all the people who otherwise wouldnt care about the internet. Besides, Ive re-met[is that a word?] friends on myspace and chatted with people ive encountered who I hadnt seen, not to mention Ive met in person people from other schools through myspace. Is there anythign wrong with that? Oh, and just because the generic myspace pg i5 typ3d liek d1s doesnt mean that arent plenty of spaces with decent people who have very insightful things to say. For example, in my list of favorite books I have books by neitzsche among other philosophy books, the average viewer will drop by my page and not even notice it and say "omg lol ur cute im bored lol jus sayin hi cuz i got nuttin to say haha holla back yo" while once someone in college sent me a message about my books and we ended up sharing IM discussions about philosophy. Care to tell me why I shouldnt trust myspace? Giving personal info on myspace is no different from giving personal info anywhere else, and I dont care about what the average idiot does and is expected to do because people should know how to handle data, and if they dont they deserve to be conned. I really wasnt surprised that all the nerd techies here would be ranting about myspace. Since when is it the eleventh commandment to be anonymous on the internet? Oh yeah thats right, since you self conscious morons decided that the internet is the only place you can act mighty. - mockstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"No such thing as a free lunch"
- Pxtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The problem is that myspace has one feature - half the indie bands under the sun operate on it. And this is deliberate - the founders of MySpace went out of their way to encourage indies to set up their websites on MySpace. So the fact that it is the fugliest locale in the blogosphere is irrelevant - they have content that people actually want.
- djkritikal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3While I do agree that there are many many sites out there that have my personal information, there's just this disdain for MySpace that I've always had. I think it has to do with Tom immediately being my first buddy, self-absorbed asshat.
MySpace is slow, cumbersome, full of whiny bitches, and more annoying ads than any site I know. I'll stick to LiveJournal.
And about the guy who blogged this... so what if he only had 7 hits prior. Maybe he learned to write a good blog or, gee golly, maybe he derserves props for doing some research. Those who make fun of his blog are just pissed because they didn't think of it or do the work. - hibern8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I will do anything to help MySpace die ... the sooner the better even if it involves a lot of dead kittens.
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I haven't seen a drop of spam or malicious intent my whole time at myspace. I assume they only attack the dumbasses with 435 videos and 21312323213 flash animations with animated backgrounds and invisible content.
MySpace isn't owned by Intemix anymore. It's owned by Fox, a company with a lot to lose in terms of our privacy. - jafojsharp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now if only Digg got me laid...hmmmm..then I would cancel my myspace!!
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who the hell cares. Myspace is gay, and you're not making yourself look cooler that way.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ehh it's just adultfriendfinder.com for kids...
- MrMysterious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No digg, what can Myspace really do if they are evil? E-mail me?
- aj1215, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"myspace is some what of a necessary evil now."
Agreed...unfortunately - Brahms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1myspace is some what of a necessary evil now.
- Zac3010, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Remember, God kills a kitten every time you go on myspace.
- snugsoho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know how people can even deal with all those tacky smiley commercials that are splattered across each page on there let alone the terrible page compositions. Myspace is like how the web used to look back in the '90s
- SnowSurfns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mmm i use adblock (firefox extension) whenever i click on someones myspace link, pretty much takes out all the crap ads.
I would like to see myspace die a horrible death though, that would be great! - bking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Myspace has proven itself to be an effective tool for meeting new people, getting laid, and keeping up with friends. I have an adblocker extension, so I don't see any ads, and spam isn't a problem. There are a lot of poorly coded profiles with ***** design, but those aren't really going to bother you if quit looking up 13 year old, single girls.
When I'm on myspace, I see no ads, I don't get malware, and I'm not annoyed by ***** profiles. I read up on friend's blogs, send messages, and maybe check out new people coming into my school.
Myspace is a powerful social networking site, and the experience all depends on how you use it. Anybody bitching about it either still uses IE, or they're just trying to be anti-cool. - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Music on every page too, that's the worst part! That should be a deadly sin.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2O no u di'int!
- Rageous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yup. Laid here too.
- jared9985, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0www.tagworld.com is what myspace should be. It is only in beta but it beats the piss out of myspace.
- e=ir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0as long as it keeps them all drawn to one easy to locate part of the internet, and away from the places i love, i don't care. I just wish I didn't have to hear about how cool the new online high school is, and why don't i have an account. oh well, back to my life.
- TheWorkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really don’t think that the reason people are digging this is because they are concerned with the issues posted in the blog. More or less, most of us have a common hatred towards MySpace much like we did with Priceritephoto for whatever reason. The site just plain gives you a bad taste in your mouth for many reasons I will not go into. I refuse to sign-up for an account even though many of my 25yr + old friends constantly invite me. It does kinda disgusts me that my friends probably chat with teens/middle schoolers without even knowing, and use this place to hook up with girls that probably have a list of 50+ guys just like them. These social breeding grounds are just asking for trouble.
I am a married man with Kids, and I know that I would not want my wife in their either because it serves no purpose for us. If you are already happily married, dating, or engaged, you have probably grown out of MySpace. There are plenty of married women and men in MySpace creating new “Friends”, and probably hiding this information from their spouses/lovers. Anyways, I understand that there are many other reasons people use to use MySpace, But it is DEFINITELY not for everyone. I recommend anyone I speak with against the use of MySpace as a social tool. I would much rather spend the time to educate them on how to email more effectively, start a real blog, use flickr or other file sharing methods. - randylovin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Trust them with what?
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another myspace post and another thread filled with the same asinine comments.
NONE OF YOU ARE WITTY! - nacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice ***** picture.
- jd230, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Look at all the haters of MySpace. I only use to keep in touch with people I actually have met in person. It works out pretty well for keeping up with show and whatnot.
I dumped Tom as a friend the first day, he creeped me out with that over-the-shoulder surprised look. I felt like I walked in on him masturbating or something.
Also, just throw away friend invites if you don't know the person. They just clutter up the buliten board with their *****. - atebark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Granted this same link was posted 27 hrs ago (http://digg.com/technology/The_MySpace_Report) by the actual blogger who wrote the story (LAME self-promotion), it is still a duplicate story/link. doesn't anyone verify this before posting ? DIGG is fast becoming a dumping ground
- robotArn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you're telling me tom is actually Thomas Anderson? hmm . . .
- aThing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0MySpace is just a big gathering of AOL kiddies that can't spell.
- leetsauce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0MySpace deleted my profile four times.
I lost a total of 1200 friends. That's 300 each, even though they're all the same people.
Owned. - buggieboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Any product associated with the Murdock empire should be considered suspect and is probably best avoided.
- themilkman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0eh... i have a mySpace account... . i signed up yesterday.. before e i read the article.. now i want to cancel my account and i don't know how... :-(
- JoeRamboUK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So I aint alone when a say MySpace is a piece of crap. Most of the pages look unprofessional and tacky. Oh and the music playing how bad is that!
- banglogic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg. Interesting article regardless how you feel about MySpace.
The way I see it, yes, MySpace is a goofy, advert infested nightmare (but, since installing Adblock, when is the last time you've actually seen an advertisement) but it makes a subset of "the people" happy. Let "the people" be happy. Based on the incredible popularity of the site, "the people" have already made it known that they want this sort thing. MySpace is doing something right even if they are, at their heart, evil.
We have digg and Slashdot, they have MySpace. Democracy at its finest.
P.S. Why are you guys so angry? Who hurt you? - Maccer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"myspace is going to sell our information to advertisers and penny advertisers... didn't you already know that."
heh heh, you have a myspace too, i am yur "friend" - tharealmegaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Myspace is genius. Its moneymaking genius. Its the 7th most trafficked English site according to Alexa and with no signs of slowing.
All of you that hate it for its people should at least respect it as a business. If you're tired of seeing javaed-out multicolor myspaces, stop browsing for 15yr old skanks. Older people usually have myspaces that are toned down or totally plain. Like me.
Also, privacy doesn't exist anymore, anyway. Who cares if myspace tells company X what music you like? Most people post more ***** willingly that anyone in the world can see. - aThing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0aThing said "MySpace is just a big gathering of AOL kiddies that can't spell."
On second thought, that's a good thing. It keeps them all there and not here and other worthwhile places on the W3.
I wish we could edit here... - drowningfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
You can also trace Bush Family back to the Bin laden Family.
cue in the X-Files music.
In all seriousness though, I couldn't careless. Privacy online is a thing of the past. if anyone thinks otherwise they are deluding themselves. If you sign-up for "FREE" services online you also need to realize that you pay for those services with some privacy chips.
You cannot expect Corporation_10029 to protect your Privacy. That's all up to you. If you don't trust services like MySpace then stay away. Simple.
In today's world there are 2 people. Informed and Uninformed. Let Darwin sort them out. - eblah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Two of the main things I hate about it is the ads and the support for their beloved MoveOn.org propeganda site (which was a huge ad in which I blocked ;) ... along with all their other ads, lol).
- snoopdawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I digg, even though it's a blog link.
I hate myspace more than i hate blog links. - 404notfound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The MySpace folks also created a fake page of a porn star. From what I hear, the porn star was none too happy that a page with her name and picture was created for the sole purpose of boosting the site's popularity.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes it did.....myspace got me laid too! LoL 3 chicks on my list and one Im about too hook up with soon.....I love myspace!
~mario - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0better that all the "lolomgkewl" people are at myspace than here.
- orangetiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's less hash slinging here then in our last national election
