- WhiteSquall57, on 11/17/2008, -7/+328There is no other video site i have visited that meshes the advertisements with the video so well. It makes you feel like you are truly watching t.v. and not just streaming videos. While immersing you in this t.v.-computer world it allows you to do subtle things like lower the lights of your browser that really make the site worthwhile.
- Natitude, on 11/17/2008, -32/+290Being from Canada, I hate Hulu.
- thatcrazycommie, on 11/17/2008, -1/+240I don't know, but I ***** hate the new Youtube ads that pop up over the video while you're watching. So intrusive, so obnoxious, so unnecessary.
- jakatak, on 11/17/2008, -2/+182Hulu is about Quality programming.
Youtube is about Quantity programming. - Biird, on 11/17/2008, -7/+182The Hulu ads are great, they're all with smokey the bear and about not starting forest fires
Hulu = 3 seasons of ALF
YouTube = No seasons of ALF
Is there any question why Hulu is better? - AFelsinger, on 11/17/2008, -15/+180i am partial to hulu myself...
- MLisa, on 11/17/2008, -9/+147I love hulu.com. The commercials are less than one minute long. You can pause and go pee. Recommendations: Quills, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Family Guy, SNL clips...
- brandonpierce, on 11/17/2008, -1/+119why are we comparing hulu to youtube? it's like apples and oranges. hulu has established itself as THE place for legal, free online television programming. and youtube has established itself as the place for amatuer video and blogging. both work well for their intended audience
- scabbers, on 11/17/2008, -7/+111Youtube's value was only ever in the illegally uploaded copyrighted stuff. The 'vloggers' have always just been noisy, worthless *****.
- Anub1s, on 11/17/2008, -5/+82Make a superior product, make more money than the other guys. It's how things work. This is no surprise.
- nikhil1986, on 11/17/2008, -2/+76You can download this app called Hotspot Shield. It creates a VPN and assigns you an american IP which allows you to watch hulu. Its kind of annoying because it puts an ad bar on the top of your browser, but hey, Hulu rocks!!!
- xsecretfiles, on 11/17/2008, -0/+69I stopped watching youtube since they recently added the embedded comments function. People use them to advertise the crap out themselves, on top of advertisers on top of advertisers, that's crazy...
- talonstriker, on 11/17/2008, -8/+76Yeah but US is the only country with people. In canada there are nothing but polar bears and maple trees. And in Mexico, there are nothing but tacos and banjos.
- dse78759, on 11/17/2008, -3/+54"why is hulu better?"
Because on youtube there are thousands upon thousands of jerks mislabeling their crappy videos just to get hits on popular keywords, and eventually you learn that the site is a waste of time. - LastDitchHero, on 11/17/2008, -2/+53Maybe because Hulu has professionally produced content and Youtube has dogs riding on a skateboard. Not saying Youtube doesn't have some jems but that are few and far between.
- bryxal, on 11/17/2008, -3/+49US != North America
- kayamm, on 11/17/2008, -8/+52I want hulu in europe!
- se7envii, on 11/17/2008, -0/+40What I like about hulu.com is when the video advertisements do come, they have lower volume than the actual show which is really nice. Most times on TV I have to turn down the volume because the commercials are so much louder.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -1/+40Sweet, it works. Thanks internet buddy!
Oh and about the ad bar, you don't have to install it. - unitedkronos, on 11/17/2008, -22/+60YouTube is international though, Hulu is North America only which sucks.
- IamJustinM, on 11/17/2008, -1/+39Hulu is where I watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia :)
Day Man! - PeTeRZz, on 11/17/2008, -2/+40Hulu - Every episode of "It's always sunny in Phillidelphia"
Youtube - A couple 20 second clips... - whataSAMF, on 11/28/2008, -0/+38I also really like the video player, it seems a lot more user friendly than most of the main network sites.
- jehan60188, on 11/17/2008, -0/+36It's Alway's Sunny in Philadelphia
Kitchen Nightmares - dse78759, on 11/17/2008, -2/+31Firefly.
- TotalHalibut, on 11/17/2008, -0/+29I guess they should just produce TV shows for free. People like you are the problem. They give you a good service with minimal advertising, and you still whine. ***** off.
- MuadDib, on 11/17/2008, -2/+31Hulu is just the evolution of what youtube started. Such is the nature of technology.
- ExRe, on 11/17/2008, -0/+27Use FF + Adblock Plus + Hotspot Shield.
Though I'd be the last one to ever enter a password on a non-ssl site through hotspot shield. It is very easy for them to sniff passwords. - ThatsNotPudding, on 11/17/2008, -0/+25Because Hulu doesn't accept cell phone videos of Uncle Festus accidentally setting fire to the cat.
- TotalHalibut, on 11/17/2008, -1/+27Hmm yes... crappy cam clips of people doing stupid *****, vs 480p streaming television shows. What a choice...
- mrferg, on 11/17/2008, -0/+26Arrested Development as well, great show, I missed it the first time around.
- diggit83, on 11/17/2008, -1/+26Bingo
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -2/+25Betamax.
- jkoski, on 11/17/2008, -5/+28Hulu is paid for by advertising. The advertisers pay for ads in the US not for worldwide. Bandwidth is paid for by the advertisers. If the advertisers are only willing to pay for bandwidth to the US then only US viewers get to watch.
It is not a 'tiered' issue nor is it one for net neutrality. Your ISP not the carriers are determining whether you can watch it or not. The content provider is and they are well within their rights to do that. - Crimsoneer, on 11/17/2008, -3/+25The place for those in the US anyway....
- Kflo, on 11/17/2008, -0/+21Fighter of the Night Man!
- drzaeus, on 11/17/2008, -0/+21Ha!
I kill me! - bigbangbuddha, on 11/17/2008, -2/+23Dreamcast
- rockwithme000, on 11/17/2008, -0/+20What is a jem?
- Tsumuji, on 11/17/2008, -4/+23I remember getting the option to watch one giant commercial (I think it was a full blown movie trailer or something) at the very beginning of the TV episode I was watching, or little regular ones throughout the show. I thought that was really cool, Hulu's not too bad.
- steger, on 11/17/2008, -0/+19Yeah this sort of transition will move traditional tv viewers to online viewers. Youtube already has a captive audience, and hulu wants to attract them and the ones alienated by youtube.
- doshindude, on 11/17/2008, -4/+23what ads?
- dhughes, on 11/17/2008, -14/+33 It doesn't matter if they're working on getting it approved for Canada and the UK, as they have said before, the point is if it isn't available for everyone to view you're supporting a tiered Internet, if only certain people are allowed to view content, and are OK with that, then we've lost the battle for Net Neutrality. VPNs/proxies are missing the point too, the first two W's in WWW are *World Wide* otherwise it isn't the Internet it's a country wide, restricted, WAN.
I'm floored at how few people are bothered by this, I guess it's human nature that if you're doing OK you don't care about anyone else. - aflaks, on 11/17/2008, -0/+18God you missed the point of "oversees" entirely.
- roxgod666, on 11/17/2008, -2/+19lol AppleTV. Buying those is pretty much screaming "I am running out of useless ***** to buy."
- Anub1s, on 11/17/2008, -0/+17Marketing, availability, pricing, and sheer luck have their respective parts as well of course. :P
- Clbull, on 11/17/2008, -0/+15I know what you mean. 25% of the comments I read on Youtube are spam ones advertising cam girls, Its pissing me off a little now.
- IamJustinM, on 11/17/2008, -0/+15Day Man!
- scarper86, on 11/17/2008, -1/+16Just like the BBC blocks me from watching Top Gear on their site.
- HonoredMule, on 11/17/2008, -0/+15You make it sound like vegging in front of a TV is somehow better than vegging in front of a computer. Don't blame the tool for how the user applies it.
