"Well, uh, no, but my latest blog entry makes the marketing director look like a complete noob! He only got 2 comments on his last post, and I already got 5!" - Bloodwine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm not entirely sure I want to give my pointy-haired boss the ability to make a fool of himself (and the company)
Several of my co-workers have asked if we could start a company blog, and I've always been hesitant. It probably would provide a more fun way of offering tutorials and guides on how to use our products and services, as well as provide a way to let our customers know what is coming down the pipeline. Maybe even throw in some podcasts for extra nerd points. - Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The author forgot one, company sponsored blogs allows the competition to see more details about your company and mine more data. Not good if keeping a low profile is necessary.
- threemagic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3We don't do it here, we have a weekly newsletter to keep us aware of changes in other departments. This would be much more informative and exciting...
- OurEducation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For our small non-profit, we have found that our blog helps us keep the students we work with informed about our on going efforts as well as keep them in touch with our organization in general. Obviously our blog is not on par with those kept by Fortune 500 companies, but in the education it's helping us get our name and work out there.
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That article is right, but mostly for the small business. They help you promote your business, especially if you are a helpful guy who is willing to share his or her knowledge. Not only they improve your PR, but more people will hear about your company, if you manage to become popular in the blogosphere.
Big business, on the other hand, they might be better off without a blog. For example, whenever some MS software engineers writes something about Vista, the MS haters will misquote it and further their own agenda. - silas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4IBM-Centric blogs are great. I wish I could link you guys up, but it's internal only :(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Blogs give businesses a personal touch.
- businessorati, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A Business Blog, if carefully planned and executed will help a company to reach out to the customers and/or potential clients. If search engine ranking is the goal, blog will certainly help in achieving a better ranking. On other hand if blogging is left in the hands of employees without proper blogging policies and moderation, it can be a nightmare for the company.
- moebis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2My company decided to start hosting investor blogs several months ago as a grass roots effort to get messages out to smallcap investors: http://www.zangani.com/blog ....it seems to be working well so-far.
- stokestack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Business blogging."
Yeah, that'll trick everyone into thinking your company is "hip." Kinda like Sony with their "graffiti" PSP ads.
Remember when Compaq first starting integrating sound cards into their computers, around the time of the original Pentium? They called it "Business Audio". "Business" my ass. Ninety-nine percent of users, thrilled that their computer could make noises, used it for just one thing: belch sounds when they emptied their Windows trash.
Coincidentally, that's a fine sound effect for the typical blog. - MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Blogging is a good thing for companies but also creating PodCasts is another great way.
- emb3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hugh Hewitt wrote an excellent book on this topic.
The title is 'Blog: Understanding the Information Reformation that's Changing your World'
A great read encompassing the current and future impact of blogs.
Hugh's blog can be found at hughhewitt.com
Primarily politics and he's spot on in views, imo. Enjoy. - monergism, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Why greenlight bad grammar? This is an example of a blog entry and why companies should not blog. The uneducated are far too quick to type.
- Cakey, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3@Murdats: Yep! It really is fun! Try it!
P.S: Try not to be so rude next time... - Cakey, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Well, I like Blloging! If feels as if you are nown on the internet! ;)
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3I hope you are kidding and using shocking spelling to emphasise your point, if not, i pity you
- sud0n1m, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1"More and more companies starts blogging"
