- LuigiBrasile7, on 09/14/2008, -17/+833Just turn it off.
- Masna, on 09/14/2008, -35/+385This is greatly exaggerated. The automatic changes usually help me. Not to mention, most corrections are for typos, which saves me a lot of time I would have spent going back and fixing them myself. And even more to the point, you can turn them off if you're really that anal about it.
Say what you will, but MS Word is the best, most powerful and easy-to-use word processing application on the market by far. - 1337Einstein, on 09/15/2008, -12/+244Anyone for whom this graph is true is either a moron or hasn't written anything in word longer than a sentence.
First, because you can turn the feature off. Second, if the auto formatting is on, and you have some vague idea what your doing, than it oughtn't take more than a few minutes to make the appropriate corrections. - pwnsey, on 09/15/2008, -86/+296OpenOffice is just plain horrible.
- atdigg, on 09/14/2008, -9/+168It's not about being the devil, but Microsoft needs competition, do you remember how long they dropped any kind of IE developement till they felt threatened by Firefox?
- stradf, on 09/14/2008, -99/+246Oh please cut the anti-Microsoft crap for once. Microsoft is not the devil, wake up, and windows XP is fine.
- crash331, on 09/15/2008, -5/+1331. Start Word.
2. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options.
3. Click Proofing, and then click AutoCorrect Options.
4. On the AutoCorrect tab, click to select or to clear the check boxes for the options that you want to enable or disable. After you do this, you can format these items manually.
5. Click OK two times. - MidnightRIder77, on 09/14/2008, -110/+210It's called OpenOffice.
- AgmLauncher, on 09/14/2008, -115/+209Anyone who has had to type anything in Word knows that graph is 100% true. Automatic formatting gets it wrong virtually every time.
- Rikushix, on 09/14/2008, -7/+100Hey, that was one great thing they fixed in Office 2007. Bullets became WAY more manageable. In my opinion anyways.
Not necessarily the best software, but taking unneeded time to fix formatting errors != Microsoft needs more competition. You don't like it, you use the competition. It's you that needs the competition, not Microsoft. - drex8, on 09/14/2008, -1/+94Word.
- inactive, on 09/15/2008, -4/+87It's more fun to get on Word at school and change the autocorrect settings to replace common words like "the" and "and" with "*****" and "poopsicle".
- Xvash2, on 09/15/2008, -4/+76Time spent making graph: 20 minutes.
Time spent turning off AutoCorrect: 20 seconds. - pyronik, on 09/15/2008, -4/+72Yes XP is fine. And I like linux too. Competition is good. Microsoft isn't bad. The world is round. Buy what you like, ditch what you dont. Obama isn't a terrorist. McCains not the devil. Bitch less. Do More
- LMN8R, on 09/15/2008, -6/+72I disagree - I think that Office 2007 absolutely is the best office productivity software out there. The new interface is absolutely fantastic - easily the most high-quality, innovative thing Microsoft has done in years.
- mmockett, on 09/15/2008, -1/+66That's what she said.
- srsgd8, on 09/15/2008, -2/+66Maybe write your papers instead of reading/commenting on digg?
- SnapDragon86, on 09/15/2008, -4/+59[citation needed]
- crash331, on 09/15/2008, -10/+54I count 5 steps needed to turn it off. All five are convienently placed together on a page which can be found with a Google search.
- tnoy, on 09/15/2008, -12/+56OpenOffice has always been far worse at the automatic formatting than Word has been for me.
- Condemned, on 09/15/2008, -10/+53OpenOffice screws with formatting worse than Word.
- roxgod666, on 09/15/2008, -1/+44Why don't you just Outlook for another company?
- quiggibub, on 09/15/2008, -6/+47Turning it off is too hard?
- batmanz, on 09/15/2008, -1/+41I wonder if you Excel at anything?
- kd420, on 09/14/2008, -7/+46Yeah, I hate trying to fix the alignment of a list of points. "Oh really? You didn't think I'd want the next list to be the same as the one before? And maybe each bullet in the list to have the same format as the previous bullet?".
- satanguy, on 09/15/2008, -14/+53it's called LaTeX
- batmanz, on 09/15/2008, -26/+63Yes, Microsoft does need competition. However, Office and Word are definitely the best software in their fields. This graph is bull I'd expect from Apple.
- Zantive, on 09/15/2008, -16/+52OpenOffice is ***** ugly.
- DeathGod321, on 09/15/2008, -1/+35@batmanz: I doubt he has Access to the information.
- infiniphunk, on 09/15/2008, -4/+38"LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!"
- ZenMojo, on 09/15/2008, -2/+35Turn. It. Off.
Problem solved. - douglasr007, on 09/15/2008, -6/+38non-pirated? You make it seem it was an option. ha ha
- GliTCH82, on 09/15/2008, -1/+32***** it! We'll do it Live! Messenger.
- baseballdude, on 09/15/2008, -13/+40Gosh - why is it that hardly anything decent ever makes it to the frontpage anymore?
Seriously, learn how to use the software. It's not that hard. - oblique63, on 09/15/2008, -0/+25was there really a need to PowerPoint that out?
- MrJagil, on 09/15/2008, -1/+26As a foreigner, it took me some time to realize that the word 'anal' isn't always related to feces and surprise buttsecks.
Now i use the word all the time! - simplyarun, on 09/15/2008, -7/+31I'd go for Microsoft Office rather than OpenOffice anyday.
- kutza, on 09/15/2008, -3/+27I wish office was pre-installed and free...
- djgreedo, on 09/15/2008, -1/+23What about Vista isn't good? Have you even used it?
If someone had told me a few years back that I'd have a computer in 2008 that never crashes I wouldn't have believed them. Now thanks to Vista I have a PC that never crashes. And it looks cool and has an improved interface.
Ignore the FUD and try it for yourself. - ileftfark, on 09/15/2008, -5/+27I happen to find most of the auto-formatting useful and time saving if you know how to use it. And that's exactly why auto formatting/spell-checking is included in other word processing suites. What you're arguing for is essentially a text editor. Just write your paper in notepad or gedit and be done with it.
- LucasVB, on 09/15/2008, -1/+23I'm sure Bob can help you.
- ZenMojo, on 09/15/2008, -2/+22So, either click on the "autoformatting" checkbox or download a whole new program. Hm.
Click on autoformat ---> Click on Options ---> Proceed to remove autoformatting. - douglasr007, on 09/15/2008, -3/+20Press left to highlight the numbers. Right click. Stop Numbering. Oh wow. So damn hard.
but yes, it's a bitch, regardless - kennedyn, on 09/15/2008, -0/+17He probably used word to create that pie chart.
- inactive, on 09/15/2008, -2/+19Its called Star Office.. oh wait.
- themastersb, on 09/15/2008, -2/+18I pretty much memorized how to remove all hyperlinks quickly from a document and easily since it's always a problem for me. Ctrl+A to select all Ctrl+Shift+F9 to remove.
- WootZoot, on 09/15/2008, -1/+17Its called Pages.
- Queue29, on 09/15/2008, -7/+23@gadgetlustgadgetlust
I fail to see how you fail to see the sarcasm. - AZRoboto, on 09/15/2008, -4/+19Which idiot doesn't know how to go to line spacing options and change settings themselves? Or, better yet, just go into the default Home ribbon and, above Styles, click on "no spacing."
That idiot...would be you, and the people agreeing with this image. - Whaines, on 09/15/2008, -3/+18This is sure to see the FrontPage of digg.
