- freehunter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+67The description does not describe the article well enough at all. The description doesn't explain WHY he is talking, as the article says, he is the more responsible one. I hate tiny little articles that force me to click and read one sentence that describes the entire thing. Why could that not be posted in the description?
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+57Speaking as someone who's had one of their stories mentioned on Diggnation™, i can say that we're (Kevin & I) pretty close friends.
We've never actually met face to face. Or spoken on the phone. Or corresponded. Or had any contact at all, other than my frequenting his website. But I'm pretty sure he feels the same special bond that I do. - greatpaimei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40One wonders how many people call themselves "friends of Kevin"
- herb34, on 10/12/2007, -5/+40Jay is the CEO. Why shouldn't he talk to the press?
- NickDouglas, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Quite a lot, he hangs out with many people. I mentioned it in the interest of disclosure as well as adolescent bragging.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23A PR firm?, boy, what a waste of money. I think the corporate ***** bug invades all entrepreneurs no matter what.
- aule, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21@Lennalf
"Buried as lame... wish I could also bury it as blogspam"
Don't worry I'll bury it as blogspam for you. - NickDouglas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Good question. And that's why I wonder why he never talked this much before. It's not that he can't talk to the press, it's that it means something when he does. There have to be reasons they don't just ask Kevin to hold the interviews as usual.
- AriaStar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14"One wonders how many people call themselves "friends of Kevin""
According to MySpace, Kevin has 17364 friends. - patrick24601, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Who the hell cares? Seriously people ! Go... get... laid.
- err0r503, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16A PR firm lets people get their work done instead of them getting hammered constantly by the press... Its not the "corporate ***** bug", its the "please stop everyone from pestering the ***** out of me, bug"...
- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Kevin has like 27K friends on digg yet he's only befriended like 60ish.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Calling yourself a CEO doesn't make you wise or earn you any respect. It's how you manage your job that counts. Jay blew it.
This "CEO" was the one who first decided to enact the information censoring and account deletions. After hours of failing to put down the coup, he capitulated.
Now he's scurrying to repair the damage he's done to DIGG's democratic reputation. His first words should be "I'm sorry." His second words should be "I was wrong." If I were him, I'd start with humility, work hard, and lay low until this blows over. Now's a good time to let someone else speak for DIGG for a while. - unknownsoldierX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I don't know how PR firms operate. But, I'm guessing Digg, Inc. can't yet afford "corporate *****" level PR. I'm assuming corporate spin costs extra.
- dgolding, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5PR firms do more than just provide comments. They moderate interactions between executives and the media. Think of it as filtering and scheduling, which is important because these guys don't have unlimited time.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Can the community make Jay quit?
- mxpxpx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5valleywag has this annoying tone in everything that comes out of it
- cartboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3(Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. He is the one that is held accountable for Digg and its actions. He signs off on all the deals with the sponsors. Sponsors get a little worried at a time like this and might pull their funding. So he must publicly go out and define Digg.com's actions.
- Cwo655321, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that pic of jay looks like he used the fisheye effect on his mac :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Buried as inaccurate. Digg has more than two founders.
"...he's the younger and edgier of Digg's two co-founders."
Owen Byrne is also a co-founder. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When I get laid, I'm always packing heat...
- muikano, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1your friggin nuts. I'd like to see you run a company without compromise. You can't stand firm when you've got only one bullet and a slingshot. Going head on against a multinational corporation is not something to be admired. Suicide is not something lauded.
Digg is still a fledgling operation. We expect Google to uphold our rights because they've got the muscle. Their the ADULTs. Digg is still a Web 2.0 kid. And a kid doesn't run in front of trains.
Even Kevin Rose didn't really advise for this stand against the HD-DVD consortium. If you read his blog spot, he was like "if we go down fighting, then at least we tried."
Digg has to expand its audience to 10 million before it can face tough nuggets like HD-DVD.
I like Digg. I really don't want to lose it over some dinky 10 numbers. If you guys would just be patient and let the userbase of digg grow, digg WILL become a gigantic force. Now i don't know if digg can still use Safe harbor.
Argh, guys. the real world isn't counterstrike. Sometimes it's good to bide your time. - pamon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1all they were doing was controlling the spin and PR on this latest issue regarding their company. Valleywag's article was pretty harsh overall. Think Jay is a better mouthpiece w/ the major papers vs Kevin though. Kevin is more likely to go off saying something non PC whereas Jay will tell them what they want to hear.
- walkerj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bury Jay Adelson as lame.
- howie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It does explain why he's talking. It's because the other guy is suddenly considered to be a loose cannon.
- aliguana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wasn't he interviewed on CNN earlier too? Someone from Digg was, anyhow, I missed the beginning
- elvenseven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The important question is, is Jay trying to look like Kevin Rose? And yes, this is a hair question.
- greatpaimei, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3 hate to once again give in to the urge to respond to a off-point topic, but I strongly beg to differ. You don't seem to get what I meant. I don't argue against the statement, I argue against the PLACEMENT of the statement. We idiots here on digg seem to think that spamming it on the comments section will do something. Our comments are quickly forgotten. If we constantly bicker and complain on off-topic forums, people get used to it, or, possibly, get annoyed of it. It's not hard to see how this can quickly lead to the comment have the opposite affect of its intention. When people get annoyed, they can begin to reject the message. So, IN THE NAME OF YOUR CAUSE, STOP POSTING!
- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Article is a bit inaccurate. Digg doesn't have co-founders, it just has one founder. That's pretty obvious if you know the history of digg and how it all got started.
That's no knock at Jay though, I'm just clarifying details. - dvandewalle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'm willing to guess next podcast Kevin will give his side of it, that's what he does. this is also a pretty serious issue, both for what it could do to digg and what it could set as a president, so i'm guessing the shoot from the hip cowboy style we are used to might be toned down a bit.
- Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i hope this doesnt mean they are trying to keep kevin quiet. he made digg... and he can break digg.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5"But I mostly did that to you because I'm an unthoughtful bastard."
No, you did it because you thought it would get more diggs.
I'll just bury instead. - CandyStyle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well, look at him, would you talk to people looking like that? Kevin Rose is the bad as! LONG LIVE THE DARK TIPPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- wdr1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What was the verdict... did Digg get sponsorship from HD-DVD around the same time as yanking the code?
During the post flood, a lot of people where making that accusation and I never heard if it was true or not. - CandyStyle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1aka ass...
- radiofrequency, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Valleywag sucks. If I want to read gossip, I prefer thesuperficial, egotastic, perezhilton, etc. It's depressing to read about busted-looking geeks navigating the boring corporate confines of PR firms, lawyers, accountants, etc.
- silentpyjamas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think you may mean "precedent"
- fargo182, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think first of all they didn't pick Kevin because they would tell him what to say and he would tell them to go to hell and speak his mind.
Second, he probably has better things to do then waste his time talking to news sites and magazine writers, when they have absolutely nothing to do with his success.
Users of this website are his success and he already showed us that what we want matters and is the only thing that does. Give the guy a break he can't do diggnation, watch digg 24/7 sleep and have a social life. He has people for that and they most likely made the decision on the issue and he ultimately veto'd it.
His statement will be made to his fans and the users of this site on diggnation or a different podcast explaining his opinion. - BeefyCow2001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11337 DIGGS, C'MON!
- pengas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"...both of whom I've met; I'm a friend of Rose"
you sound more like an ass kisser to me - knomevol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1darlin', it's "commenting". postings are the articles/videos.
- kidd3ckz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Or shoot yourselves in the foot trying.
- knomevol, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2it is pathetic, but when decrypting a dvd is the salvation apparent of life, you gotta tug at the closest heartstrings around. i don't want anyone going down the material drain. life, baby, life.
in the end, God endowed all men with the innate rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. all women and men are created equal.
these truths are self evident. - psychohistorian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0We like to hear Kevin's honest opinion. What's use is a PR-firm comment when they are just more lies , lies and damn lies? Does PR-firm really think their audience take them seriously when their nature is to propagate lies?
Hey I am a lier! I am telling you the truth! Believe me! - greatpaimei, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Cherubim... I care too. (honestly probably more than you do) but plz shut up. You're just going to get burried every time. Go write a story and submit it to digg. (like this guy) I'm sure people will listen to your rants. (looks off to the side)
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I'm trying to care. Really trying.
- vemerge, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5He should. But the article points out clearly that Kevin has almost always been the public face of Digg. Therefore people expect him to be the one fielding the questions.
- Meheren, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0What has this got to do with the Digg site... I mean a random person posted a LINK to that code... Digg can't really do anything about that. It wouldn't be Digg to delete something that someone posted... I mean it's basically just web space that anyone can use.
- knomevol, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1cherubim, please don't pay a single heed to "the great, the amazing, PAIMEI!!!" (knew you wouldn't... hehe)
things happen. substance is for a while and unbecomes. as you know, ain't no use in it.
please, keep at it. life is precious.
to be persecuted for saying life is sacred? ah, oh well. ***** happens.
to believe life is sacred and respond when that sacredness is being forsaken? please keep spreading the healing word.
if you've got to believe in something, why not believe in "free"? -
