7/10 of the top 10 are now pictures. - kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+91You should have added HDR to your title - that is automatic front page! "Why Digg needs a Picture Section (HDR Picture)"
- lengau, on 10/12/2007, -5/+85Buried as Wrong Topic - Should be in Pictures section, not news.
To Kevin: :P - wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -5/+79Pictures: Why read the news when you can just look at an image!
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+65It wasn't so much that he said a word, but that he said a word everyone wanted to hear.
- canti32, on 10/12/2007, -8/+66You forgot the foxtrot comic, which makes it 3/5 of the top digg stories pics.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56No, since he is mentioning a problem with digg, he doesn't need that. It'll automatically get to the front.
- avcore, on 10/12/2007, -24/+65Since when is Digg 4chan, I thought this was a news site.
- firefox15, on 10/12/2007, -12/+50I love this! Kevin says one word and gets dugg up like crazy. True digg spirit. ^_^
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40I think it's about time that Digg gets a "Digg needs a picture section" section. We get it.
- demeteloaf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39I'm semi dissapointed the "topless wife photo" article isn't included as a picture article :(
- calvinator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38@avcore: "Since when is Digg 4chan, I thought this was a news site."
Well, if Digg adds a picture section, you can simply block it, filtering out all the pictures you don't want to see. Seems to me that it makes things easier for everyone. - unloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37Yes, but his says one half. You lose.
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -40/+71"True"? It's just ***** spam. Link to the article, please.
http://www.digg.com/news - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30FYI, that is the CEO of Digg!
- wotcher, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31"High Definition, rly"
- reed311, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34If anything, Digg needs an Ubuntu circle-jerk section.
- jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -7/+31Considering the internet is not compatible with Vista I would have to say no.
- thasmadawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24I think digg needs a digg section.
- calebhawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20in response to that comment i submitted this, just for you...
http://www.digg.com/design/Why_Digg_Needs_a_Digg_Needs_A_Picture_Section_Section_Picture - WeSaluteYou, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21Why Digg does not need a Picture Section:
Goatse - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16"FYI, that is the CEO of Digg!"
Chief Entertainment Officer? :-O - GaffleSnipe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18@GawtMilk
There is no article, and how is this spam when there isn't a single ad on the page. - shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18@avcore
since ~3.0 - Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19www.*****.com
- deannnnnn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Now somebody go write a blog "Why Digg doesn't have a picture section" and get it to the front page.
Then the cycle will be begin anew. - LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -17/+28Couldn't you have at least done it a little cleaner? :
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/7751/picrb6.png - tf5bassist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12I love how when Jay basically confirms it, people do almost nothing... but when Kevin says one word with four letters, people ***** themselves.
Don't get me wrong, I like Kevin, you're awesome man, but sheesh... Give Jay some respect too. :D
Until I actually see the photos section in action, I'll remain skeptical, however.
(http://digg.com/design/Why_I_think_Digg_com_should_NOT_have_a_photo_section) - ryanchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10The foxtrot comic should be circled. I don't think digg needs a picture section, just group it in with videos and make a media section.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12It would go unused like the podcasts and videos section.
- eizooo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5pictures, videos and podcast are no categories, they are JUST containers for content.
categories are used to separate content according to the user's interests and needs.
here an example which explains the difference between a container (or call it media format) and content:
somebody posts the very first picture of GTA4 in 1280x720 pixel resolution now. GTA4 comes in fall 2007. Would be a post with a very high interest, most gamers like to know more about GTA4.
Where should this post be dugg? In a new picture section? So what about all that diggers who give a ***** on GTA and video games in general? Though they like nice pictures and the first GTA shot is a gorgeous picture, they don't want to see it.
Again don't mix content and containers. - chattin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't even know why...
http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/9562/diggeq3.jpg - openyoureyes17, on 10/12/2007, -12/+17GIVE IT A REST!
- Turbosc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm sorry to inform you, but it seems like we've successfully dugg the entire internet. Mark this time and day, and my comment, as the moment the internet has reached it's zenith, and now begins is slow painful plummet to ... OMG MYSPACE INVITES LOOK AT MY PIX LOL A/S/L?!?!!11
oh Internet, you served us well. Your successors will be proud of you. - Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+5@daxsymbiont
"really, some of us have lifes outside digg.com."
I, for one, enjoying raking leafs and hunting deers. - hookshotzz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6props for not using imageshack!
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I don't really care one way or the other if Digg adds a photo topic, but I do have one request. Please don't do it like the video section, which I frequently end up ignoring. I like having the option to see everything on the home page. Add a photo tab at the top, but leave it as an option (even if turned off by default) in the "edit topics" page.
That way people that want a separate section for photos get their wish, but those of us that like seeing them on the front page get that option as well. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5No, there SHOULD be a pictures section so we don't have to see pictures in the news section. I believe it would be much easier to solve this with a pictures section than to try to convince people not to submit pictures.
- KevinWhite, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging
- lostmongoose, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7That would work right up until the Apple zealots whined because they didn't have one.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7*Comment Abuse* down the comments page, the CEO of digg just commented saying "We hear you, everyone, we hear you! :)".
just wanted to note that for anyone who doesn't read all the comments. - jus1haz2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Anyone got a link?
- thorb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i think kevin just copied and pasted his website
www.kevinrose.com - lengau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4But then do you put Podcasts there too?
- redeye666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I normally avoid the picture stuff, although the pavement painting guy is always amazing to look at. things like this http://www.digg.com/space/Amazing_Picture_of_the_the_Eclipse_the_other_night are kind of news, aren't they?
- KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Let's not forget the amount of comics that are submitted. Penny-Arcade, Weird Comix, there was a FoxTrot one today as well...
I could see a Pictures section happening, with sections like Comedy, Comics, and so on. -
