Slut. - Glimjaur, on 11/02/2007, -3/+25I would definitely prefer if Google got in on the deal, maybe then they could integrate it nicely with all their other services. That would please me.
- haonusa, on 10/25/2007, -0/+8doesn't zuckerburg look like the smartypants now
- dinostabOMG, on 10/24/2007, -0/+5Can't we come up with a more reliable source than the New York Post?

- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4Yesterday an article with mucho diggs was saying google was competing against facebook with their own platform, how does that mesh with this raticle that says google is seeking to acquire it? *confused*
- dansmeek, on 10/24/2007, -0/+3sure. wall street journal.

- stevedclarke, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2Whoa...
- bffoley, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2Investing in digg for all their Ron Paul spamming needs
- ChrisTek, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2Don't know how their corporate structure is set up, but a hostile takeover would definitely be interesting to see. (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, Google it!) However, IMHO, Yahoo! and Microsoft usually make "Web 2.0" services _worse_ when they acquire them. Take Yahoo! Widget Engine, for example.
Edit: Read some more. It appears Facebook does NOT have public stock. But this might open the door. - FaceBookEconomy, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2where have you all been, MicroSoft has won the bidding war; paying some $240M for a 1.6% stake in FB.
- dansmeek, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2uhh, you can't quite invest in facebook directly. it's not a public company... yet. which is why this microsoft (or google) deal will essentially put a portion of facebook on the market.
- Shiner6, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2That is the beauty of rumors.
- macpro2006, on 10/24/2007, -0/+1that long ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- ehavir, on 10/24/2007, -0/+1And now we know. Microsoft has announced a stake in Facebook.
http://money.cnn.com/2007/10/24/technology/msft_fa ... - jasen, on 10/25/2007, -2/+3I would rather nobody aquire facebook, but if somebody had to, the player whom I'd most like to see aquire them would be Yahoo. Yahoo doesn't seem to be in the search business any more these days anyways and is focusing alot more on their social sites like flickr, mybloglog, del.icio.us, zimbra, etc. By intertwining all of these sites with facebook they could breath alot more life into their company.
If google owned facebook, they would not only own the search industry, but a big chunk of the social one too, and even though I like google(mostly), nobody wants one company to be too powerful (i.e. microsoft & walmart) - ausfahrt, on 10/24/2007, -1/+2Neither please. I will remove all of my pics and that will be the end of that. I can see it now ... Adds embedded in pictures and videos yipee!
- benroy, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1Who gives a *****? Facebook is retarded, it's pretty much myspace for college graduates.
- stevedclarke, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1No worries. I fail at digg quite often.
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -0/+1Same deal with Google Video existing simultaneously to Google acquiring YouTube
- AdHaR, on 10/24/2007, -0/+1Must have been cold under that rock...
- AdHaR, on 10/24/2007, -0/+1These *Stop X* kind of groups are one of the things that keep me away from the *Login to Facebook* bookmark, not to mention the plethora of POS apps...
- dinostabOMG, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1thanks

- azprofessional, on 10/24/2007, -2/+2Data mining sophistication upgrade mmmm yes more profiling.
These morons I know essentially publically disolved their marriage on Facebook and decided it was dignified to use it as a platform for mass drama and friendship ultimatums.
Facebook addicts = Giant sack of festering turds. - dansmeek, on 10/24/2007, -1/+1if you read fake steve jobs blog (a writer for forbes) he gives subtle hints that it will likely be MICROSOFT who is going to win the battle (over who owns facebook... well a small portion of it at least)
- sinhack7, on 10/24/2007, -0/+0Also if Google gets the 10-15 its bidding for then everything Microsoft at FB has to go ... now if i was Bill wouldn't want that.
- DevlinD, on 10/24/2007, -2/+2You can't help but just LOVE to watch the battle for who can put their money where their mouth is. I wonder what the final number will be.
To be honest if Facebook is really looking to grow the brand then they have to go where the most users are and partner with the company who is willing to still give Facebook its own space while at the same time committing resources. In both cases I would say that is Google. While Google does have a bit of a reputation for making acquisitions that don't seemingly pay off (see Dodgeball) they certainly know how to throw down the gauntlet and innovate when it comes to crucial emerging markets (see YouTube and yes even Orkut).
Google has a layer of social features it plans to integrate with all of its services, so investing in Facebook is really just a move to keep MS out. Google could even just Googlize its own version of Facebook and stick that on top of the rest of their services and save the money. But right now they will be paying for user base and momentum.
Facebook was the first social web platform and has a monster lead in this particular area (and the vision to keep this lead growing), similar to the way Google came out of nowhere and all of a sudden was the most dominant search platform in the world...then the most dominant web advertising platform. But investing in a company is a far cry from owning it. In order for either of these companies to invest that kind of cash, there would have to be some pretty heavy benefits aside from advertising revenue.
Bottom line, I would say Google has a better track record of effective M&A and would probably provide the best outcome for both companies. Google has also shown that it won't balk at assigning appropriate resources once it has made an acquisition. It doesn't just merely acquire, dabble a bit with the technology, and then forget about it. If it is important, they will put their arsenal of talent behind it, and Facebook definitely falls under that "important" category.
However I never like to count out Ray Ozzie, the man is the future of Microsoft. - bl0ger, on 10/24/2007, -0/+0Lol at your face.
- avgbody, on 10/24/2007, -1/+1I see why MS would be interested, I see a good amount of their developers on blogs talking about using Facebook and Popfly together.
- TeknoScience, on 10/30/2007, -0/+0Who's Investing In Facebook:Not Me, so who cares?

- Malarie, on 10/24/2007, -3/+2Bury me until I reach China, but I would prefer to see Microsoft buying Facebook than Google... Google is becoming too big and it is starting to be a little bit too unsafe for me.
- clayton191, on 10/24/2007, -5/+1A group on facebook has been created to stop a microsoft takeover:
Dear Facebook: Please don't sell out to Microsoft
