- cdawzrd, on 02/06/2008, -1/+14Wait, there's advertising on the web?
>.> - d03boy, on 02/06/2008, -0/+9who says people have to make money on the web? The web itself is a physical service... content is just content
- AyaJulia, on 02/06/2008, -1/+10The answer is AdBlock.
- colosis, on 02/06/2008, -1/+9google
- Twelve-60, on 02/06/2008, -0/+8Why? I will never click on one anyway
- broysox, on 02/06/2008, -0/+7I'm still waiting for my prize for being the 1,000,000,000th visitor.
- zaldoe, on 02/06/2008, -1/+6adblock will
- KevenM, on 02/06/2008, -2/+6The website publishers. This isn't rocket surgery.
- radzie78, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4Microhoo
- dealseeker, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4Advertising controls itself through saturation and the resulting desensitization. Entropy FTW.
- TheActionCombo, on 02/06/2008, -0/+4If using AdBlock means there will be less blogs, then I'm all for it.
- bobbybobington, on 02/06/2008, -3/+7The market.
- Hobbes24, on 02/06/2008, -0/+3i've never noticed.
just a lot of nice companies wanting to give me free stuff - HigherLogic, on 02/06/2008, -1/+4Great...
// waits for a bunch of "What, there are ads on the Internet...AdBlock Plus FTW" comments - KevenM, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2It`s called `sense of humour`. Brain scientist huh
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2 Yep..And they keep upping the antie till they are so intrusive and insulting and irritating that people start to fight back any way they can..And ad makers just don't get it...Irritating and annoying a person is not a way to get them to want your stuff...
- sunyata76, on 02/06/2008, -1/+3I wish there were some viable alternative to advertising for Web monetization, but until then, thank goodness for ABP.
- javaroast, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2Sorry web advertisers lost their opportunity with me by using invasive pop-ups, pop-unders, using malware, placing objectionable content and becoming a haven for spammers who I wouldn't do business with anyway. Ad Block Plus 100% now. In my opinion that is reasonably. Websites refused to use ads reasonably in their grab for cash and Ad Block was the fix for that.
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -1/+3adblock controls it quite well for me.
- enamuldotinfo, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2In the future online free classifieds will take over other form of online advertising.
craigslist, backpage, kijiji, gumtree and many more similar sites have established their position.
A lot of local online free classified websites are being published everyday and those are getting good popularity in that locality. - inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2 But of course.Ad makers are like spoiled brats who demand attention and demand you buy their stuff and will go to great legenths to push their message in your face.
If they could beam ads into your brain 24/7 they would.
But the pushier and more demanding they get,the more I'll resist. - inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2 Yeah,Digg just keeps adding more and more ads..Pretty soon all the replies will

Digg. - mhearne, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2Not only are they annoying, but ads that flash at certain frequencies can cause epileptic seizures.
- dattaway, on 02/06/2008, -1/+3$10 a month for 300GB is a lot of money?
- benroy, on 02/06/2008, -0/+2I've found that it's predominately Girls in my Area who want to 'Hook-Up'.
It seems kind of unfair that these pretty Girls would have to use banner-ads to get laid.
You'd think that that they could go somewhere...anywhere and get 'Man-Love' easier than with a banner-ad.
- extreme sarcasm - RoboRay, on 02/06/2008, -2/+3My HOSTS file does a wonderful job of controlling advertising on the web.
- MercyPolitics, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1So far the only people making money with adds on the web are Google. Not good to have one company pulling all the strings.
- fjklein6501, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Relevant and to the point.
- geoffg, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1MicroYahoo
- thailand1972, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1If that's true, Google is dead.
- Neticule, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1it costs money to host a website. especially a good website that needs bandwidth.
- bosssmiley, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1*Ding! Ding! Ding!* We have a winner folks!
(dugg for your unimprovable tl;dr précis) - mdew, on 02/06/2008, -1/+2I control the advertising on the web (or lack of..)
http://fanboy.co.nz/adblock - mhearne, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1You can download it here:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
It works in Linux as well, as /etc/hosts.deny, but needs a little reediting. - inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1 He wishes so.
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Good list!
- ritadebock, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1google - I DO NOT like this, but it is a fact
- markus941, on 02/06/2008, -1/+2Social media is not the money pot that Madison avenue thought it was.
Facebook ads are useless. http://blog.auinteractive.com/facebook-ads-dont-wo ...
Microsoft ads on Digg are useless. http://astawerks.net/blog/2008/01/09/i-did-not-win ...
If you throw enough crap on the wall, some of it will stick. If you throw some ads on millions of page impressions, some people will click. But that's hardly effective.
Google's ad networks FTW - noBananas, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Given the concentration of ad serving in the hands of a few major players, Adblock Plus makes it easy to eliminate ads. Try this filter...
/[./][aA][dD][sSxX]?[./]/ - djdalai, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Buried for making "Hardy Har Har" sounds go off in my head...
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1 My adblock will as well...If you don't like it,you can block my fire foxey bum,I really don't care cause your content is not worth waiding past obnoxious, irritating ads about crap I don't give a sparrow fart about anyway.
Now if they would show the ads once and then the ads would go away after three minutes, that would be different. - diggduggj, on 02/06/2008, -1/+2i got it! you must have been the 1,000,000,001st visitor.
- inactive, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1 And all these people don't have JOBS?
Way back when people did not put ads on websites, they just paid for them out of their own pocket.
Don't want to do that now? Too bad.
Expect me to click on your ads?
Too bad.
I've used the net over thirteen years. In all those years, I've clicked on three ads and they were:
1; vacation in Asheville NC
2. Cubis 2 game
3. Stargate SG 1 preview.
And that is ALL.
Of these,I bought the Cubis 2 game.
What are your chances of selling me something?
None whatsoever.
So since I'm not going to buy your products anyway (there are already places where I shop, such as new Egg and Amazon), and your ads will only annoy me,I'll block them.
I don't go to websites to click on ads for products I don't want or need. - oziescom, on 12/27/2008, -0/+0There will always be ads placed out of context....:D
http://money-online-guide.blogspot.com - UnDeux, on 02/06/2008, -1/+1As someone who's done work in online advertising (cue my own shame) I whole heartedly predict that banner ads are going nowhere. And where you don't see advertising, be weary of seeing something ten times more insidious and subtle.
- gosmart, on 02/06/2008, -0/+0No doubt in our minds that the future is in online classifieds. Service such as http://www.ClassifiedFlyerAds.com that will syndicate your full color online ad to top online directories will rule. These full color online ads receive 1st page Google ranking and achieve massive exposure from the online directories they are syndicated to. You create it once in under 10 minutes and it’s automatically sent out all over the internet to top online directories and search engines. This concept can also be appealing to advertisers who want to advertise their banners or ads on the bottom of these online flyers. It’s a platform that is appealing to sellers and advertising because it provides mass exposure for free or little money.
- dojonz, on 02/06/2008, -2/+2I believe you have mixed up 'brain surgery' with 'rocket science' whilst attempting to sound smart.
- HigherLogic, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1You do realize that advertising works on more levels than just clicking (or immediately buying) something? It's about seeing it more than anything else.
- gosmart4u, on 02/06/2008, -0/+0Funny Waterrat. Facebook ads are a waste of money and not effective. The members on these social networking sites are not looking at these ads because they are so crammed in their face that they have learned to tune them out. They are their to connect with others for free not to purchase things. IMO at least.
- gosmart4u, on 02/06/2008, -0/+0Not true. Google has already somewhat positioned themselves in this arena with Google Base. Google will most likely build upon Google Base or aquire some of the already established classified ad sites to stay on top of things.
