mydigimedia.com — In the wake of Microsoft's proposed $44 bil takeover of Yahoo (and all the subsequent chatter), I've updated my Who Owns What chart. Because I think this topic is so important to all journalists, regardless of whether they work in traditional media or even in the United States.

    We've already seen first-hand the impact they've had on the primaries and the hijacking of our democratic process in the early stages. Along with key web-centric companies (such as the pro-BigBusiness, anti-consumer companies like Microsoft and AOL), these major players in the media should be closely monitored.

    As far as I know, Web2.0 is mainly about a new-ish way of designing websites that allow more user friendliness. Most people simply think it's AJAX, which allows for fast access of data and such, but it goes much deeper than that.

    And I say new-ish because the design techniques were out long ago, just not the term itself.

    AJAX actually means : Asynchronous JavaScript and XML
  • spectre_25gt, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3It's more than user friendly. It's about being user-centric. With web2.0, people are generating a lot, if not all, of the content on a site. Digg is a perfect example. The users of the site aggregate all of the stories here. If it wasn't for us, the site would do absolutely nothing.

    Web 2.0 is also about collaboration and community around the generated content. Look at Flickr or Last.FM for a good example of that.
