- amg0927, on 02/08/2008, -7/+33Can we please stop calling it Web 2.0?
- inactive, on 02/08/2008, -1/+26I'm waiting for Web 3.0
- SkippyDoorknob, on 02/08/2008, -3/+25Or even Web 2.0 Sevice Pack 1
- GreySpec, on 02/08/2008, -3/+17this link is still 5 font! ????
- lnxfi, on 02/08/2008, -2/+13I still have no idea what Web 2.0 really is. I mean, I've read stuff, but as far as I can tell it's mostly clipart looking websites? Any help?
- rmd34, on 02/08/2008, -3/+13Let's never overlook the Big Six in Media. Their influence extends into all areas of our lives, including ownership of the most popular sites on the internet.
We've already seen first-hand the impact they've had on the primaries and the hijacking of our democratic process in the early stages. Along with key web-centric companies (such as the pro-BigBusiness, anti-consumer companies like Microsoft and AOL), these major players in the media should be closely monitored.
http://www.freepress.net/ownership/chart.php - DraconPern, on 02/08/2008, -1/+9website is pwned by Yahoo. Click on the 'Main' link to get error 999.
- GreySpec, on 02/08/2008, -1/+9Can someone please post a link to a zoomable image?
- melonhedd, on 02/08/2008, -1/+8That's about right. Also no vowels allowed.
- technogenius, on 02/08/2008, -0/+6You don't have to know the technology behind something to use it do you? I don't know how LCD's and Plasmas work, but I'm not forbidden to use those words right?
- technogenius, on 02/08/2008, -1/+7What would you rather call it? There's a big difference between straight html and 'web 2.0'... Why shouldn't it have a name?
- ssulistyo, on 02/08/2008, -0/+5Web2.0 is not really about tech. I think this video sums it up nicely: http://youtube.com/watch?v=NLlGopyXT_g
- Versh, on 02/08/2008, -0/+5You forgot to mention: Web 2.0 == Giant Blogspam Circle Jerk with highlights and high-chroma contrast shiny icons
- myt29, on 02/08/2008, -0/+5AJAX is NOT a language. It's a combination of existing languages.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 02/08/2008, -0/+5But still, it has a specific meaning, it's not just some vaguely defined buzzword like Web 2.0
- MScrip, on 02/08/2008, -1/+6The web today is a hell of a lot different than the web in 1998. I hate buzzwords too... but with photo sharing, web interaction, video, social media...Web 2.0 does make sense.
- dbw53022, on 02/08/2008, -0/+5Here's a great video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gmP4nk0EOE
- greystar, on 02/08/2008, -0/+4Apparently a handful of users who have Jay Adelson bobbing their knobs.
- vibrokatana, on 02/08/2008, -0/+4You forgot FAIL 1.0
- Nougat, on 02/08/2008, -3/+7I haven't said this for a while:
Web 2.0 == Giant Blogspam Circle Jerk - inactive, on 02/08/2008, -1/+5HOLY CRAP YAHOO ERROR 999 AGAIN, GET DOWN!!
- Kyderdog, on 02/08/2008, -0/+4George
- drakenlot, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3Why dig down the question? As long as he didn't write it like 'How I mine 4 fish?' or some *****, I'd be happy to answer.
As far as I know, Web2.0 is mainly about a new-ish way of designing websites that allow more user friendliness. Most people simply think it's AJAX, which allows for fast access of data and such, but it goes much deeper than that.
And I say new-ish because the design techniques were out long ago, just not the term itself. - FredFredrickson, on 02/08/2008, -2/+5Error 999 - This chart tells you who owns what, but apparently Yahoo pwns the chart.
- nic28, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3Vowels are coming in Web 2.1 I think.
- FredFredrickson, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3And diagonal pinstripes.
- houndeyex, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3"ze" and "biotch" have to be the most bitchin' words I've ever heard.
/sarcasm - Funkly, on 02/08/2008, -2/+5yahoo takes it down FTW
- ZMann, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3If you enlarge the image, it's just blurry.
- phenom2k7, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3Don't confuse the man further ffs. Java and Javascript are 2 different programming languages. And there's a big difference between the two.
AJAX actually means : Asynchronous JavaScript and XML - spectre_25gt, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3It's more than user friendly. It's about being user-centric. With web2.0, people are generating a lot, if not all, of the content on a site. Digg is a perfect example. The users of the site aggregate all of the stories here. If it wasn't for us, the site would do absolutely nothing.
Web 2.0 is also about collaboration and community around the generated content. Look at Flickr or Last.FM for a good example of that. - limpits, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/web_30_is_it_ ...
- darnit, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2User generated content and community. Crowdsourcing vs passive viewership. For example Digg ;) Thats the heart of 2.0 imho.
- ryuujin, on 02/08/2008, -2/+4Hey, I enlarged the image in Photoshop 200%, you can almost read it now :P
http://www.atdnat.com/who.owns.web2.0.jpg
(sorry for the blur, but I'm not taking the time to retype that =/) - TheG2, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Really cool video, don't know why you're getting dugg down.
- technogenius, on 02/08/2008, -2/+4AJAX is an acronym--- Asynchronous Java and XML. So it's more of a design pattern than anything
- thatsmyaibo, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2You pretty much got it. Logos look glassy, headline text is mirrored and the layouts are like blogs. No fancy design but very easy to navigate.
- heypetray, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Maybe it's okay to be a grammar nazi when it comes to software. A simple misspelling of 'install' cuts my user confidence in half.
- TheG2, on 02/08/2008, -1/+3You must be a sysadmin to be THAT paranoid.
- drakenlot, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2He meant the guys who own the big companies. I have to admit, I'm interested in that too
- bot001220, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2And ground reflections, missing vowels and unnecessary usage of the word "beta".
- drakenlot, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Man, that was so stupid I think I lost an IQ point just from reading it.
- BigBallistix, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Much more explicit link, thankyou. I didn't know GE owned Working Title Pictures, I quite like them.
- krahzee, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1That's because MS distributes it directly under the Microsoft name. This is a list of other companies or brands each parent company owns, not products they distribute.
- tyler71, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1Web 2.0 is dead. Get the ***** over it!
- krahzee, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1yeah, but the sometimes "y" glitch won't be fixed to 2.2
- verusdies, on 02/08/2008, -1/+2scary stuff :-/
- Obelia, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1It's not comprehensive. IAC boasts that it owns and operates over 60 brands. Many of these, like Bloglines, are definitely what some people have the bad taste to call Web 2.0.
- ItsTheSun, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1is this guy crazy.. you cant read a thing on that site.. how worthless.. wtf?
- AbsurdParadox, on 02/08/2008, -1/+2LMAO Not many people are going to get that!
