- kremvax, on 10/12/2007, -25/+110I'm sure it's a complete coincidence that now-twice-convicted-of-Vote-Fraud Tobin, who became President Bush's presidential campaign chairman for the New England region in 2004, called the white house serveral times mere hours before DOSing the opposing party's phone system.
I mean, surely The President wouldn't lie about trying to silence political opposition. The man's integrity is beyond reproach! - thewise1, on 10/12/2007, -6/+60The people that get bashed on digg aren't conservatives. Conservatives believe in small government, fiscal responsibility, keeping the government out of our lives.
Our current government and its supporters are none of these. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+44Until the likes of Bush, I used to consider myself a (fiscal) conservative. Sure, there are foaming-at-the-mouth retards who get their political knowledge and viewpoints out of the trashbin of their junior highschool biased teacher who has stickers all over her classroom saying "fund schools and let the military hold bake sales" and other idiotic rhetoric.
However, there are also plenty of people like myself who believe the government has certain responsibilities and nothing more and are offended when "conservatives" do things like... spend hundreds of billions of dollars on wars. Increase government. Violate our constitution, trash our civil liberties and privacy and cram religion down people's throats.
Of course, then I found that the party that most closely adheres to the basic principles this country was founded on was the libertarian party, which I most closely identify with now that I refuse to label myself as anything related to republicans or conservatives -- even as a fiscal one. Because clearly, they are no longer the party of small anything and are everything they always criticized other parties of being. (Not that democrats are any better - they just aren't in control at the moment is all).
So, frankly, ***** anyone who thinks that you're just a "hater" if you don't support this retarded monkey-boy we have in office. You're clearly not a free-thinking person if you have that viewpoint, because many in your party don't agree with you and are sickened by what it has turned into and how it has turned against them.
Then again, this is why I keep telling people to stop worrying about which party and which candidate, because to become viable for candidacy and office, they must by nature compromise and be only of a few various shades of the same corrupt stripe. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -25/+61It's a George Bush thread, so I get to once again say:
IMPEACH BUSH NOW, BEFORE HE KILLS AGAIN!
Go ahead, give me a -Digg, but you Republican thieves aren't going to win. George W. Bush is going to be brought to justice, or America might as well hand itself over to Halliburton now and be done with it.
You cowards that let this go by time and again, that make excuses for this treasonous, thieving rat don't deserve freedom and you will never have justice! - seanmc303, on 10/12/2007, -12/+45"I HATE the way people at tech sites seem predominantly leftie and completely ignore all the sleaziness of their own party."
This is because techies are generally informed intelligent people who aren't necessarily filthy rich. This being the case, it is a no brainer why techies are generally lefties. - zweben, on 10/12/2007, -17/+50This administration has done worse stuff without a scandal.
- matrox212, on 10/12/2007, -7/+40This isn't much different than the "push-polling" they did in 2000 to McCain either.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35What a dumbass. 1960? More like 1860. In Chicago, We Invented Voter Fraud and I am insulted to think that Kennedy and his east coast chronies might be getting the credit for our invention.
- jwalk81980, on 10/12/2007, -15/+46To Bonchbonch. You don't have to be a lefty or a righty to realize our President is 10x more crooked than Kennedy or Nixon ever were.
- jonesin, on 10/12/2007, -18/+45"Digg is so full of hate it makes me sick."
What are you talking about? Look at the latest presidential approval polls. Nobody likes our president, it doesn't have anything to do with Digg, it has to do with the fact that he's a horrible president. - aguita, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36Mutant --
What most people don't want to admit is that it goes both ways. I've been on republican and democrat mailing lists. What they spread is pure propoganda. Our political system needs a major overhaul! - JohnboiWaltune, on 10/12/2007, -14/+40leftist != Democrat
- BlackCat, on 10/12/2007, -14/+37Not punishing the President would mean letting the terrorists win.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27phreaking is the act of hacking phones, so it could include the act of jamming
- tkerwin, on 10/12/2007, -12/+33Two wrongs make a right? That kind of attitude doesn't promote civic-minded thinking.
- flush2000, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27I smell a scandal...
either that or the democrats are trying to get the republicans in even more trouble. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22You know something, some of the people replying to this are part of the problem.
Why cant you critizise, illegal activities of a person in politics, without someone comparing it to something the "other" party did X many years ago. Im living now. I dont care what happened in the 60's. I care what happens today. Our president is a liar, and a crook - there are too many "coincidences" in this administration for it to all be BS.
I really wish America would put party lines aside for a minute, and just get rid of this guy. I dont care who you replace him with, Republican, Democrat, whatever - just as long as the person is honest. bush is not honest.
There are crooks and liars aplenty in BOTH major political parties in this country, they stay in power by making you afraid to vote for the "other" guy. We seriously need to gut the elected officials in this country - they all need to go, just as a wake up call.
Stop trying to make this a partisan issue. Bad is bad, illegal is illegal - the fact that the "other" party is just as evil too doesnt excuse it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+31digg is so full of hate?? why the anti-digg statements? you must be a terrorst.
- ccheath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20well it's quite a bit different, since the gotv phonebank is only run on election day, to call and remind people to vote (both parties do it) ... this story is accurate and Tobin is going to jail probably for electioneering or something (ianal)
... however, the thing w/ mcain in the SC primary was almost as sleazy (there were leaflets also put out with the same accusations, as well as the push polling with inaccurate information) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+34I could just see Bush and Cheney working on their own blue box... and making people's Caller ID display "NOT THE WHITE HOUSE" when they prank people. hehe. Digg just for the mental image, even though I doubt the story's accuracy.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24KentuckyRedNeck:
oh i see, just because kennedy supposedly did it, it makes it ok for the republicans/bush. what makes you think that some of the democrats here wouldnt be upset with that as well? - aburd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20One of my friends did a similar thing for the Democrats in 2004 (get out the vote campaign, not tire slashing). One guy came into the campaign office while an old lady and him were working and started picking everything up and throwing it all over the office calling them all "*****". He was spat on and cursed out for being a "*****" at every voter registration drive he worked at. I should probably mention that he is happily married to a lovely lady...
All of their signs were stolen the night after they were placed over and over and over.
There were more instances as well. Basically individuals on both sides are too extreme and hurt everyone with their actions. That is much different from the White House participating in those types of attacks. We, on both sides, should remove the people breaking the laws for political reasons, but we should be able to expect that the President of the United States and his administration is well above that. It is sad to see that such assumptions about the Bush Administration are completely wrong. - Nichevo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Disrupting democracy, sounds like something that should be covered under the new anti-terror laws, if it was a citizen doing it...
- metrofeed, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21I once wanted to post a political story on Digg.
Then I noticed there's no category for politics.
So I didn't post it. - glind, on 10/12/2007, -18/+32Yeah like republicans really want people to get out and vote. The kind of people that need a ride to a poll are not going to be voting republican.
- MacGeekGuy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+24Like they need much help... the new republicans have sold us, the individual Americans, down the river. The only thing that seems to matter to them is big business, but without us those businesses wouldn't even stay in business. I miss the old republican party, that was financially and politically conservative and didn't have to rely on shady tricks and other fraudulent activity to win votes. Between the attacks on internet privacy (among others) and rebuilding the party with fear and religion... their behavior in the 21st century is inexcusable. This administration needs to go - they're pissing all over the constitution in the name of cleaning it.
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20This reminds me of the story that The Onion ran on a "get out and vote on Wednesday, November 3rd..." campaign by the Republican party...
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/30760
(I thought it was funny - even though I usually vote conservative/republican...) - starmanjones, on 10/12/2007, -9/+22>Thats OK, the Democrats invented VOTER FRAUD.
>1960 elections. Big Daddy Kennedy buying Union votes.
>Dead people voting.
>People voting twice.
>Dead people voting twice.
>Illegal aliens voting.

>Oh, and how about the nice elderly couple
>who just happened to have a scanner running
>when Newt Gingrich was on his cell phone.
>And just by chance they had a recorder going
>at the same time. Gee... I thinks thats a felony.
>
>Don't talk to me about dishonesty. The Democrats
>certainly invented it
well, the republicans have turned it into a fine art. by the way... what does an election in the 60s have anything to do with this... you must be stupid.
oh, ya... stupid. newt gingrich is a republican. duh. - Deuterium, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18So let me get this straight, the Repugs are into phone freaking and the Dimms illegally acquire your credit history and slash Repug tires the night before the election? I think I'll continue to not vote either one of these crooked parties.
- cavanaughphoto, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16 I am a conservative. I voted for George W. Bush, Bob Dole, and George Bush, (W's father). When scandal surrounded Clinton I criticized liberals for not calling him on the carpet for his actions. There are way too many questionable things happening in the current administration that are not being answered to my satisfaction.
As a conservative integrity is of the utmost importance in the political leaders I vote for. Clinton didn't have it and Bush doesn't seem to have it either.
Dugg! - rushfan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Ohio's Ken Blackwell also did everything possible to keep 3rd parties off ballots. They had much tougher restrictions, and he changed the petition from halfway through their collections. Worse yet, some counties blatantly left them off. Some of you may think, "Well who cares? They can't win anyhow." You should care because they can determine the winner by taking votes from the big parties. This is why Bush lost to Clinton. Perot got 17% (or somewhere around there) of the vote. Ever since that, the Big 2 have been on a campaign to lock 3rd parties out as much as possible.
- vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -15/+23In reply to bonchbonch "Seriously, remember Clinton using the very last hours of his Presidency (so nobody could stop him) to pardon criminals who donated money for his library?"
What is worse... Pardoning a few criminals?
Or directly causing the deaths of 30,000 Iraqi civilians and over 2,000 American lives in a useless war that will only make an Iranian Islamic superstate as soon as we leave.
No seriously... Can anyone justify this to me? I voted for Bush in 2000 (abstained in 2004), but I had not the slightest clue we would be doing the exact opposite of what his father did (rightly) and left well enough alone in Iraq.
He isn't a madman bent on world domination but he is bloody incompetent when it comes to foreign policy. Clinton had some questionable issues, but he wasn't about to start WWIII just to win an election or prove some moral point. Please people get some priorities and realize what is going on here. You know... Like actual human lives on the line.
At least Clinton actually balanced the budget like a Republican...
I just hope Mccain or Rudolph beats out Jeb in 2008. - Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Good point, who else in the administration is elected besides the President and VP?
From what I understand, The President is elected and he picks his own cabinent and appoints judges etc etc. - DEFSMAC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9busy box. crack open tni box. alligator clip a phone cord from the ring terminal to tip terminal. no dial tone. no received calls.
- Arngautr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Dude Wamzlee, I guess I should've included "RTFC before replying."
"within 3 days of election day 2004. " - from summary
"within a three-day period around Election Day 2002" - from article
notice the difference... Digg has such potential but has become a sensationalistic rumor-mill. - aburd, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15You have to recognize that the Republicans are in control. They have every branch of government. So when something happens with them it is a huge deal because they matter. Whereas the Democrats are only in control of occasional filibusters in the Senate, which isn't so impressive. So when the inconsequential party does something of course it doesn't make noise. When the all-powerful party does anything it should be a headline.
At some point the Republicans are going to have to come to grips with the fact that you aren't a persecuted minority. You won. Rejoice and give your victim-hat to the Democrats for a few more years. - deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -12/+19"The Justice Department has secured three convictions in the case but hasn't accused any White House or national Republican officials of wrongdoing" I wouldn't hold my breath on that from happening. How about when the Republicans where handing out flyers in Ohio stating that if you have been arrested or on welfare you could not vote (that happened in 2004).
But Bush is a moral man. How can this have happened? I wonder if God told him to do it?
I have resisted in the past but I think I'm going to buy one of these and put in on my car ...

This administration is made of Teflon. Why can't anything stick and have these bums thrown in jail? - spriggig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Bonchbonch,
Believe it or not, Presidential Pardons in the last hours of a Presidency is tradition and George the Sequel will do the same in 2008, as his father did in 1992:
"Many pardons have been controversial. Perhaps the most controversial was Gerald Ford's preemptive 1974 pardon of Richard Nixon for his actions in the Watergate Affair. More recently, George Bush's 1992 pardons of six Reagan administration officials involved in the Iran-Contra Affair, including Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, generated considerable negative comment. " - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13 You would rather not hear about the rampant corruption, collusion, and patronage in the Bush Administration?
- SilverRocket, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Imagine if people actually gave a crap and protested? I'm sure we'll get a bunch of people on internet messageboards spewing their dissatisfaction, and 0 people taking to the streets to express their displeasure. Net effect? A shrug from all those in power worrying about public perception, and no changes in policy.
- murdoch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Digg needs to institute a "political" flag so that articles like this won't make it to the front page. I don't care if it's liberal or conservative, there are other forums on the internet and I can't stand reading about this *****. It's been talked about to death for the last 6 years and it's beyond old.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13You should start seeing things in terms of right and wrong rather than liberal or conservative, asshat. Said to you from a former (fiscal) republican.
- pondster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Phone jamming alright - someone needs to jam a phone up bush's ass!
He's so dirty that pigpen (from charlie brown) calls him daddy! - Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10It seems we are in a sticky situation, and me without my spoon.
- badnewsblair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"They came in on election day to find all the tires slashed..."
What? They didn't spring for the Puncture-Proof tires on their Hummers and Ford Excursions?
For shame. - kremvax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Tampering with an election is an assaut on the heart of democracy itself.
Those responsibe for these crimes hate America, hate what America was founded on, hate what makes America great.
These anti-American thugs have hidden in the shadows too long. It's time to call them out, expose them for what they are, take names and show them the door. - iKato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I smell a 0.1 on the media coverage scale. Great... -_- Thanks to Keith Olbermann and Digg I doubt I would have ever heard about it.
- modestmouse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6That's how I get chicks into bed..."Come on, baby. If we don't do it, the terrorists win."
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+17If you have to be told, cajoled, hassled and driven to the polls on election day to be convinced to vote, you are probably the last person the country needs voting.
- LiterateWolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I wish Rose would put a politics section on Digg. I am tired of reading whiny conservatives defending an incompetent President that only cares about rednecked fundie Christianity, big business, and the ideologies that support them. We need solutions, not mindless rhetoric.
And, yes, conservatives are whiny.
