- Hellman109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Stupid US broadband trying to do things like 'net neutrality' which means anything but neutrality.
EDIT: I have a 16Mbit connection at home, 1Mbit upload, what do you guys have?
Also, Australia is the best place to live on earth, Ill take that for some slower internet anyday. - Hellman109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Telstra were trying to create a monopoly with it though, those plans should have been rejected as they were.
It was a greedy grab by telstra to re-instate a larger monopoly then they have. - jgrundy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Aussie broadband is limited because our national telecommunications infrastructure is owned and run by a greedy, blind and deaf monopoly.
But instead of bashing yanks and talking up your crappy ADSL2+ connection, let the Survey do the talking.... - Stealthmatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Hey man, i think you should check ur facts. ADSL 2+ has become increasing adopted by the Australian market, with over 500+ exchanges now enabled with ADSL 2+ (thats 24mbit/1mbit for you people that dont know). The QLD state is starting to take inititive to take it one step further with fiber to homes and business.
At the moment i have adsl2+ i am archiving 23mbit down and 1mbit up which is fantastic! As the above poster said...what do you?
All exchanges are being uncapped to the max adsl 1 speed 8mbit down and cable is uncapped now to 20mbit. So please kind sir tell us what exactly u have.
Australia is a much better place, than getting stab in the back by some person who u looked at the wrong way, or you find ur self in the middle of a mall shooting cause some punk had his cheese mixed up. You can take ur fancy broadband, fatty foods, street killings, and disgusting GIANT RATS!
I am proud to be australian, and although our internet is slightly behind it is picking up, and fast.. - phillyjo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That was heaps smart putting it on Digg. Now all other countries will come and do the survey, therefore changing results away from all Australians.
- Hellman109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How many whirlpool ripoff sites have put their owners into a legal bind?
I can think of three so far.... - GrimReeper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I say ***** Howard. Telstra which is like our biggest telecommunications company had planned to lay fiber across Australia to provide fttn(fiber to the node) but no our bloody government rejected it.
I guess I'll have to live with my 24mbit down and 1mbit up ADSL2+ - chrismcelligott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Telstra knocked back installing laying Fibre about a year ago, it wasn't feasible for them at the time and their share holders voted against it. My 12mb Cable connection is fine in the meantime though.
- ferni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bias against or for what??
Your website doesn't even seem to have the same topics as whirlpool. SPAM. - Hellman109, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"monopoly or not i don't care ... i want optical internet"
So your willing to pay for crippled optical internet, say they might make it a "superfast" 20Mbit connection and pay $100 for 2GB a month?
Monopolies = you get ripped off.
Competition = you get a good deal.
its as simple as that.
Telstra have crippled every internet technology to date, ADSL can do 8Mbit country wide for the same cost to them as 256Kbit, but they just screw everyone on price and speed. Dont mention backhaul, thats paid for seperatly. ADSL1, which all their exchanges with ADSL have as a minimum, can do 8Mbit by default.
Do you think that they would hurt their optic networks which they charge like a wounded bull for, if competitors like iiNet, TPG, Internode, etc. Didnt roll out their own 24Mbit networks? I think not.
Telstra screw the customer for a dollar, especially when it comes to the internet, I applaud the above companies for forcing strong competition and therfore take a bite out of Telstra.
Most people weap when I tell them I have a connection (16Mbit as above) thats atleast 10x faster then theirs, I wait for nothing on websites unless the site itself is slow, I download full movies (Usenet) in under 20 minutes, etc. - Gomo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1woot whirlpool on digg :D
Finally,
At Home I've got 7.8mbps/1mbps.
With 40gig Peak and 40gig Off Peak, so 80gig in total, it's pritty sweet but as others have said the link to the US tends to be crappy from time to time, - bart5986, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm pretty sure its limited to Australian IP's only.
Not 100% sure though. - sasquatchian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've got 20M/2M through ADSL2+ Annex M and I'm in Adelaide, Australia. I do understand that I'm in a tiny minority of internet users but fast internet *is* possible in Australia.
- g00nster2004, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 "i want optical internet (yes, screw howard, beatie is laying it around brisbane for residential use !!!)"
Optical @ 100mbit has been around for bloody yonks, you've just gotta pay the 8k a month for 100gb access....
bring on the competition. ***** bigponds FTTN/FTTH - AidanRowe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+210mbit down / 25kbits up I believe it is, with a 20gb on peek and 40gb off peek cap.
Its not the cap that makes it terrible, its the unreliable international link. Seems to be up and down like a Yo-Yo. - sam380, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1monopoly or not i don't care ... i want optical internet (yes, screw howard, beatie is laying it around brisbane for residential use !!!)
- sbolanos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've got 13/2M ADSL2+ Annex M in Adelaide ('Node FTW) :D
PS - Sasquatchian: Wanna come to the WP meet? :D http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=641527 - kidsolo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I prefer http://www.kidsolo.com
- orkutsmorkut, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0tiscali broadband - http://www.broardband.net/tiscali.php
- Saelamin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Biased in what way? Genuine question.
- 1the1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0people can say what they like, but this survey and broadband in australia this year will be exciting me thinks!! as companys expand there adsl2+ exchange coverage and slowly squeeze more competitive edge on telstra to fully unlock all potential, not to mention voip now taking off in the market to.
- heydude85, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Whirlpool is a very biased website and it is not worth your time or effort to fill the survey out. I prefer http://www.mycoffeelounge.net/ as an alternative to Whirlpool.
- AidanRowe, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1Its the only internet comparable to snail mail :P
- springah, on 10/12/2007, -20/+1stupid aussie broadband...
