- theciuffo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+104I'll give $10 to whoever makes the first t-shirt.
- speel, on 10/12/2007, -5/+92There goes another flying chair across the room.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+76Maybe MS should invent Flying Chair Recognition software.
- cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -7/+73@ OBKenobi
exactly. i knew. i am not saying that microsoft does not copy things from apple or otherwise.. i am just sick of people replying to the first comment just so their comments are up here.. that 'reply' button shouldn't be abused.... that's all... - cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -9/+56@ saggygrandma
what does your message has to do with the parent? - acespades, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45We need the 3 laws of robotics pronto, otherwise windows will kill our aunts...
- DigiShaman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+54Developers developers developer developers...
- Metrol, on 10/12/2007, -3/+47Dude, it's just funny. Geesh, I think Microsoft will be just fine without your running to their defense.
Besides, it was the "investors" who were having the concerns, not a bunch of Linux geeks. Linux geeks are just having a good chuckle :) - Stumpfarmer, on 10/12/2007, -12/+55With this software, can I mommu dogface in the banana patch?
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35never, ever, do live demos.
Just make it seem like it's working, but behind the scenes make it entirely staged. I've been behind some embarassing demos and I learned this the hard way. - barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36why does that have a huge watermark through the whole thing?
- steve693, on 10/12/2007, -11/+41What's the technical reason behind a computer's inability to understand human speech?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32something more to clog the tubes! We'll need a lottery ball real quick.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -10/+38
but the video was quickly pulled from the MSNBC site
Pulled from MSNBC's site, eh? I wonder why? Really, that's so sad. They must have a special emergency satellite hotline going from Steve Ballmer's lair direct to the MSNBC editorial department.
"Get that god-damned video off the site now!" *SMASH*
"Uh, sir, are you OK? We heard a loud noise--like a chair smashing against the wall?"
"Shut up you god-damned idiot!" *SMASH*
"Is this really Steve Ballmer?"
"I said shut up you idiot! [Pause] What's that? Who said that? Where am I? Bugs... bugs everywhere! Get them off me! They're eating my brain! Ahgrlblgrlgbhgahghg!" *SMASH* - seanm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29the reason there is a big watermark on the video is because it was recorded using a screen capture program that was in demo mode. Sorry about that, but the video was quickly pulled from the MSNBC site so that's probably the best/only footage we will get.
- jpfree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I've ripped the video off MSNBC and uploaded to YouTube:

- XBackstabberX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18The new "All your base are belong to us" is here
- Nitsugua, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19yeah, plus Microsoft should be warned : I remember a Blue Screen Of The Death during a live demo by Gates himself in '96 or so...
- K4P741NxKRUNCH, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Digishaman you forgot about developers...developers...develo............*grabs throat*
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19sorry Nitsugua. Blue Screen of Death has been designed to show up at a completely random and most unexpected moment. I am sure they wouldn't have been able to control that ;).
- apache2, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24ah man "microsoft is not happy for us showing this video and they are blaming the reck on ambient noise, but as you could hear it was quiet in the video until everyone started laughing"
hahahahaha, haven't laughed this hard since colbert got that politician to say he liked crack cocain - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Atleast now that employee will have something to put the blame of deleting, 700GB of customer emails, on.
- SpacePirate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Human speech is practically never exact. Every time you say a word or phrase, there will be changes in intonation, speed, aspiration, and much more. Try it for yourself; it takes quite a bit of effort to repeat things exactly multiple times. Consequently, it is difficult for a computer to map a limited number of words to a practically limitless number of ways to pronounce those words.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16The computer believes in non violence. ;).
- Flamekebab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14It's more because they're blowing their own trumpet about how fantastic this feature of Vista will be only to have it blow up in their faces..

Eye thaw dove addle east won tack nickel raisin. - will42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Did no-one get his joke? Navigating to h-t-t-p-colon-slash-slash-slash-dot-dot-org could be quite tricky.

- Aldrenean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10come on, don't digg the guy down for asking an innocent question. Not everyone is an expert on every article they read.
- sagarp, on 10/12/2007, -10/+18er, linux has better wireless and printer support than windows ever had. i've only come across two printers that didnt work out of the box (drivers had to be installed) and on windows, i have to reconfigure my wireless card every time i boot. i'm not saying vista sucks, or will suck; i'm sure it will be tolerable. but what's the point of randomly putting putting down linux?
- havaloc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Vista, now with voice wreck ignition.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@OregonTrail. Yep. I was refering to the exact same moment in MS history. Always good to watch it again and again :D.
- artman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ah yes. Technology. Where the word "virtually" is the most overused word.
/virtually flawless speech recognition!
//virtually crash-proof OS!
///virtually virus free! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Microsoft ... Windows ... didn't work .... WHAA...... ?!??!?!?!?!?!?
I can't BELIEVE this! How could this happen? This is astounding. No, really, it really is. It's just so like, U N B E L I E V A B L E !!!!!!!!!!!
I've forwarded this report on to all my buddies. Sure it will make the front page of the papers. I have NEVER heard of this happen before. I mean, Microsoft aren't they just the BEST? I feel so sorry for them. All those tired, poor, hard working people at that company that must have slaved for days, no YEARS to make this work. And then it doesn't. I feel so sad.... I'm gonna cry, excuse me..... - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8
What's the technical reason behind a computer's inability to understand human speech?
Quite a few high-end voice-recognition systems work very well. Don't think they're all as bad as this one. - thorseth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6For me its pretty clear that it would not work very well under any conditions. When the phrase "Select all" is written out and not executed, it can not be attributed to "echo".
Very funny though. - BrokenBeta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5We know. Way to completely miss the point.
