- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -0/+25Let's hope this is true for the little guys. I definitely think there are quality articles out there written by small blogs that deserve front page consideration just as larger sites. I feel like the problem as always been the servers though. If small blogs can handle the Digg effect then I hope the gap does in fact get smaller.
- babychen, on 09/23/2008, -0/+17For now, I reserve my judgement on the changes.
But smaller blogs with their quality articles on front page? I think that's a bit unlikely.
Diggers in general - not the active submitters, but the diggers - seem to largely want stories from the big media, plus some of the regular popular left-leaning sites (not that there is anything wrong with it!) Quick to bury a lot of the small sites, and possibly gaming from some of the very popular blogs, the front page is 70 % - 80 % big media stories. And Digg is justified in satisfying that if that is what the readers want.
Once a site reaches the kind of scale and popularity as Digg has, it probably does not have much space for wacky newcomers - who get dissed pretty much instantly as blogspam. Well, borderline blogspam is probably what will evolve into top quality in a little while, but does not look like Diggers (or Digg management) want Digg to be the platform where that evolution happens. The entry bar is set pretty high. - inactive, on 09/23/2008, -1/+16I can see how this would be beneficial for those of us who are regularly attacked by trolls who bury us, but who gets to decide what is quality and what isn't?
- inactive, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7I think this nails it. Friends can give you a burst out of the blocks, but unless your story is getting dugg by non-friends, who might actually be reading the piece, you ain't going no where. Good analysis.
- annjay, on 09/23/2008, -2/+9Interesting article
- inactive, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7Well Digg has never been good for new blogs and it never will be. And rightly so, why would I give a chanve to any odd Joe hit the front page and later redirect it to a new website? What the newer blogs should do is come up with few very good posts and try to stay away from Digg in the beginning. After a month or so when they have a mind set on people that yes this XYZ blog has good content you will surely get good coverage, from Digg as well as from other forms of media.
- erichh, on 09/23/2008, -2/+9a very good article.
- shoutspamsucks, on 09/23/2008, -0/+6Earlier it was very hard to crack the front page, as it required a huge amount of votes. Now, it will totally depend on the quality of the article.
You are kidding.. right? It still depends on how many friends you have in your team, and more specifically, how many enimies you have ;) - inactive, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5this new alg helped me get 63 front page articles, thanks digg
- irfanmp, on 09/23/2008, -0/+5Why does it have to be a "he"? Oh wait, I forgot. There are no girls on the internets.
- mahadiga, on 09/23/2008, -2/+6Digg should not disclose the Submitter name in http://digg.com/news/upcoming/ posts.
And they should disclose Submitter name only after his post has become Popular. - MacBookForMe, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3I loved a news about some fresh air on Digg!
- inactive, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3Umm..not really!
Perhaps you don't understand the meaning of friends. The more friend votes you get, the lesser it becomes your chances to hit the front page. Digg algo now gives more value to the non-friend diggs. - ritubpant, on 09/23/2008, -0/+3With all the changes thats been going around you never know how digg will be implementing the next set of changes. Hold on tight and keep an eye out for what you do
- blackolive, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2I won't believe it till I see it. Usually when digg "makes things fairer" they make it worse.
- inactive, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2That's what they are trying to do with recommendation engine. Actually trying to send the traffic to the page and from there it's the users to decide if it's really a blogspam?
- RealmDown, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2.
- diggdatt, on 09/23/2008, -0/+2As soon as the small blog goes down it then gets buried. As soon as someone notices its a small blog and sees a ad on it they automatically assume its blogspam, even if the article is unique.
- georgemason01, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1I wish admins would fix minor spelling or grammar errors (maybe even fix bad capital usage) in the titles of stories that hit the front page or are high in upcoming, at least whenever they came across them. Example: "What does the Digg founder have on his mind?". I know it's grammar-naziish but it is annoying and makes this site seem more like a 4chan forum than a news aggregator.
- goflyers, on 09/23/2008, -1/+2Get rid of friends on Digg. Honestly what's the point?

What is Digg?
