"I'm also having a hard time following Bruce's rant. What's his point?"
"BRUCE STERLING. SHEESH DUDE. BUZZKILL?!"
"I think Bruce Sterling has lost the room. It's one thing to challenge preconception but he's just trolling"

At least some imperfection and knowing that only drunks have "all the reason in the world" make me thing is the case.
Two things you said annoy me - sorry but not you, the says themselves. Yes collective intelligence and invisible hand are metaphores that imply choices not necessarily historical ideological - you're probably usa culturally, and your need in being a more social democracy system is behind - my suggestion in interpreting it. Anyway, one versus the other, meant control and/or free ways. Both have unbearable expressions, both were turned into past. What remained were values, principles that are so important - to one suspiction is the key mark and to the other confidence it is - imo.
I would love in that sense that whatever happens the invisible hand is possible, knowing that so many in charge-at large and to much-at ease made it look like can't be. Cause they abused on their power and on their irresponsibilities - were free enough isn't it?
They basically misunderstood what was supposed to be their role.
There's an old say that looks like motto for "those days that are over" - who cuts and re-cuts and doesn't keep the best part for himself either is a dunky or doesn't have the art. We saw so many situations where that was the obvious way to follow - who didn't was an allien.
Of stunning galaxies but overwhelmed with "upper" standards on those glory days
One can't measure and make rules on subjective issues so it seems. The big issue is - we need to find more ways. Cause yes we can - some well know steps were exactly that - Human Rights, Constitutions. I agree these are times of unknown but needed new shapes - i hope good sens will prevail. Simplicity and reasonable ways are essential. .
I am not happy if bureocracy doesn't pay a big part on responsibilities of this financial mess.
Seriousness too. Apply the old political motto - Ceaser's wife doesn't only have to look serious, shall be serious
