- madmikey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The old design was simplistic yet excellent. The new design tries too hard to be minimalist & while being flashy. The two simply do not go togther. Here is what should be done to make it more reasonable:
The design forces the user to scroll more to read more stories. Each story now takes up more horizontal scroll space than before. Return them to the original size.
The graphics to the left distract the eye from the key of Digg, the content. Try making the color more subdued.
The most annoying item is the appearance of the horizontal scroll bar. I am runnning XP Pro with IE 6 in 1024 x 768. Please fix it or go back to the old design. I love this site too much to find another, but I am not sure if I will like the new look without some tweaks.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Let us go back to the old if we want

I second this!! too much and , yellow is a terrible color!
Yellow , the pure bright lemon yellow is the most eye-fatiguing color. Light is reflected by this bright color, resulting in excessive stimulation of the eyes, causing eye irritation. It also speeds metabolism. Paint a room yellow, you will make babies cry and grown-ups lose their tempers in it. Furthermore, yellow is not a good color for notepads, monitor background, and websites. Although it can alert our brain and enhance concentration, it is hurtful to our eye. - toshiRo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5God I hate this design. Is it made for the blind? Oh and since when do Blue and Yellow go well together?
- Ssullivan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I like the old look better, way to much yellow in here for my tastes...this site looks like it was redone by martha stewart or something with all the eye-candy....
- wsly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I prefer the old digg
- Capand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3it looks nice, but i have to agree completely with madmikey, this new layout TRIES to be minimalist but fails. I discovered digg before i discovered slashdot (i know i'm a newbie) and i never liked slashdot because it was too flashy (and the colours were ugly [sorry])
madmikey is right, the pictures take away too much attention from the content.
it looks nice as a user friendly website, but it just doesnt suit the purpose of this website. - wsly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5ok this sucks.... the yellow diggs button draws your attention from the news title and I liked the smaller font and layout... damn, just provide a link so some of us could use the old format.
- thetwitfan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2very nice job guys. kinda liked the old school of digg 1.0 though.
- dampjam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So slow to load!!!!!
- Immortal258, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yay! The server load increases even more...Nice design though, but not worth it IMO.
- weirdal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1nice design, I can see some work was put into it.
the minimalistic design was what I liked digg for though, I can't wait for 2.1 :( - TGDuff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I prefer the simplistic, minimalistic Digg. Looking forward to Digg 2.1.
- BenStockwell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It definitely beats Slashdot.
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1make the page wider. i have several inches of white space on both sides of the page. there would be less scrolling if you took advantage of the horizontal space better. nobody uses 800 by 600 resoloution.
- dane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm running digg on 1024x768 in firefox and I'm not having any problems with a horizontal scroll bar at all. Not only does the new site look better but it has better functionality. I say the best way to appease people is just offer a skinned down version, though I know myself I won't be going to it. I like the new look.
- rawr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I need 2.1.
- Maagic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I get an error when I click submit comment but the comment still posts. Also the blog function does not work for me. I have Movable Type and have never been able to get this feature to work even on the old version. When it asks for my blog url do I point to to my index.html or my mt.cgi? I get errors on both links.
- chymmylt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Love it - keep up the great work!
- maddog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3looks great dont get me wrong, but I still prefer the plain, simple, small font look.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I love the new comment system
- lonegeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1its a little to much yellow
- Sharky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How is a 120 day old story on the front page? It's either a bug, or somone found an exploit to bump stories.
- ikovach, on 01/26/2009, -0/+0As I see it is a very interesting post... but guys, you need some time to relax. Enjoy music videos and funny clips here <http://www.TheYouTube.info> and recharge yourselves. Cheers.
- blockcipher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I love it. Thanks for working so hard on it :)
- GTAcrimelord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Not bad.
- abstractia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I dont mind the new layout. Just get rid of the "problems" dropdown for the entries on the homepage. It looks bad, and it should be on the comments page anyway.
- ryguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah i liked the previous style way better...
I was able to see more stories on a page, now i have to scroll.. - cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I would suggest a way to show/hide the Who Dugg this section. You could even make an option in our profile setup. I don't know why people are complaining about the color. Black text on a yellow background is the EASIEST to read, even better than black on white. It also didn't take nearly as long to load as the old DIGG. Of course I'm on a workstation with 2GB of ram. Heh.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Nice, it's a bit heavy for my liking, I'm looking forward to the minimalist version.
And I agree with abstractia, the "problems" drop-down should be on the comments page to discourage people from erroneously reporting problems.
Feature suggestion: disable avatars. I'd like to be able to disable them, it would save bandwidth for Digg as well as make pages load faster on this end. I guess that's something that should be included in the minimalist version, though.
Another suggestion: Comment preview - OBSCENE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Sucks
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0go back to the old layout! or at least give us the option to go back to the old one. this just looks like every other WordPress blog out there.
Simple is beautiful! - lokai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Still no "reply" or "quote" feature for comments, still not enough options for rating user comments or reporting articles, and perhaps too flashy a look for the taste of some. It might be a very nice idea to provide an alternative style setting, so that people can get rid of the new graphical look if they choose to.
It looks nice, but there are still a few things under the skin which could be improved upon. - AC-91, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Wow, most digged story....ever
- Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Dear god, on old computers this lags like hell. Scrolling is a pain in the ass on this thread right now too.
Bring back the 1.0 design now. Not in 2.1, which is probably 'coming soon'. Make us be able to choose between the two. This is terrible, there's too much flashyness and it takes your eyes away from the content. I believe many others have said that too. Digg is almost completely unreadable right now. - snoopy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0My god. What have you done? Bring back the old design. It took a full minute to scroll down the comments to post this one. I don't exactly have a slow machine either.
- Aphelion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0^same here, it took a minute to get down here. this site is difficult to read. i really liked digg, i don't know why you changed something that wasn't broken. you just xp-ified this so everything looks "nicer" but doesn't run as well.
- Spyda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I personally like the look of this site. Great job to all of those involved & just wondering why is the margin so big?
- keng, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I really like the new look and if you prefer the old layout i have one word for you...
LYNX! - Ostermayer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0the yellow comments are a bit much, they hurt my eyes and the yellow digg buttons are pretty but distracting
- jetfxr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0To much going on. But I'm a minimalist amyway. Just Don't get to Fancy.
- snowthrower, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Will be back when 2.1 comes out, for the minimalist design.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hated the fancy look. If I Want graphics over content, there are much better places to get it than digg.
Most probably my interest will wane out very soon. Expect major number drops in pagehits. - Trixie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Looks good, but the box showing the number of diggs is way too big and draws one's eye to it before anything else. I would simply place this info to the left or right of the link to the comments, in the same size type.
- wesvt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I like the new improvements, and its easier on the eyes. I do notice some performance problems. I'll guess that your brand new servers are straining under the load, but after a few days things should settle down and Digg will be back to its reliable self.
Keep up the good work, you are the first site I check in morning and the last before I go to bed! - southsloper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thanks goodness, a NEXT button :-)
- kirk06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0My one complaint:
Firefox totally CHOKES on pages w/ a lot of diggs and comments, such as this one. It took about 2 minutes just to load up to this point so I could post a comment. I had to stop the page from loading all of the "Who dugg this" section, simply because it was causing the browser to slow to a stall.
Opening the page in IE, though, and everything was A-OK. - PhaseDMA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yuck. I want the old version back.
- torrentado, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i digg it
/one way ticket to hell - Seacor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Excellent job to all involved with this re-design. Very nice!!!

What is Digg?
The Digg Toolbar for Firefox lets you Digg, submit content, and keep track of Digg even when you're not on the Digg site. Download the official
