- Chris_F, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Yep. I visit maybe 5-6 on a a regular basis.
- bigred, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Yeah, i'd be around 30-40 as well.
Did anyone else read that as "Web users 'only visit sex sites'" the first time too? Had to read it a second time, although, I wasn't that suprized at what I thought I read. - Falken, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Well, If I count the webcomics, I'd say I visit a good 30-40 or so sites per day.
- lambda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What about telnet users??
- camtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The article is about people going to site on "A daily basis"
Clicking on links from Digg are usually one-time visits. - jakob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It'd help if they added more than six blank lines on the questionnaire.
- Loyaleagle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Then again, what about all the people like...your parents. I don't know about you, but my parents rarely go to new sites and only when i ask them to go or they see it on tv (occasionally) do they ever really surf other sites. 6 sounds like a good round number to me....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's probably true because aggregate sites like google.com/ig and digg are becoming much better and easier to use. That means I have to use less sites each day to get my information.
- boohiss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Because of all the RSS reeds (especially from Topix.net), I can visit upwards of 50 different domains a day (typically). Some days much less, some days much more.
I *regularly* visit around 20-30 sites a day though, usually upon RSS prompting. - boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"The research suggests that using just one banking, shopping, travel information and holiday website is enough for a person to keep their life well-managed."
so, this article is about the average consumer, not the average digg user. - windwaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Don't you click digg links?
- Chapter80, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7wow, all you people (except MrStylz) get by WITHOUT GOOGLE????
- jimio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What makes British users any different to any other webuser?
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4digg, slashdot, hackaday sorta counts... I have 2.5.
- kracker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't see what is so new about this behavior?
We _used_ to call them portals, now someone wants to change the term to 'supersite'?
People do what they want or need to do on the web. This just seems to make people out to be less intelligent instead of ignorant or content.
And another point to consider, would you really feel safe with a single source for all your needs?
next!

Presidents of the United States of America - Lump - zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Digg, slashdot, joystiq, engadget, achewood, kotaku, google and the pirate bay.
Face it lots of the Internet is cross linked. You only need to go to a few sites to get your dally Internet intake. - TrueVox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Big Red, I TOTALLY read Sex Sites. Like 4 or 5 times. Sad, guess I need glasses...
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I visit too many! I am a net addict. :I
- nlatimer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Drudge Report, Digg and Ogame as my home pages.
At least 30 webcomics multiple times a week. (10 of them daily)
A couple forums (Nphiles and my college anime club forum)
A couple of Q&A humor sites (The Conversatron is dead, long live the Conversatron!)
3 email sites (Gmail, Hotmail, and my college email) and my college Blackboard assignment site.
A couple of general financial sites, and my specific personal finance sites.
It seems I have five to six types of sites of maybe, but I have multiple sites under each of those categories. Digg users I doubt are typical web users though. - compgeek275, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2But just think about it, there's a whole chain effect that goes on. RSS feeds compiled on one page come from sites like Digg, Slashdot, Engadget, etc. The news from those sites comes from people scouring their own 6 sites and posting that news. And so on and so on. So yeah, I visit maybe 6 sites daily (a couple more clicked to from those sites), but what we actually see is from all over the web.
- MrStylz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5You'll notice from my post that I consider a parent/child link relationship as one site...portals, to me, are going to one site as a resource.
- Cheddar79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its crazy but the articles just about right...I regularly go to about 6-7 sites a day on a sorta routine situation...
When a new site comes along...usually an old one drops off my list...bizarre. - FSFunky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You do realize that probably none of you are "typical" webusers?
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This doesnt apply to me, I have 14 sites on the firefox toolbar, 10 of which I visit several times a day. I then have a couple hundred bookmarked sites, maybe another 10 of which I visit at least once a day.
- pabloswisdom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm sure everyone wants to hear what sites everyone visits. Let's share browser histories.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2in one day.... 25 websites easy...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah, haven't you noticed? The web is full of garbage. Of couse most people only look at about 5 or 6 sites daily. Once you find the ones you can use, why continue to sort through crap?
- iknezek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's true, I only visit 6-7 sites on a daily basis; they are the portals, news aggregators, and forums that have new content every day.
Most of my Internet browsing, however, is devoted to one-time use sites to get errands done, such as to look up information on projects or get information about a certain topic that I'm interested in. This, in my opinion, is what the Internet is for.
-Nick - MightyGoldenBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...the long tale for some time. NerdTV had it on a few months back. http://www.pbs.org/cringely/nerdtv/transcripts/004.html He talks a lot about how the most traffic goes to a straggeringly few sites and everything else just dwindles down rapidly in terms of hits.
- Sal42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3web users only visit six sites... as long as the definition of web user is half of the brits online?!
- Comsamvimes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fark, digg, slashdot and 4chan (umm...I didn't just admit that) are the only I visit every day. There's some that I visit every other day, but I don't spend very much time on them. So I guess the article is about right. There's just so much junk out there nowadays that it's hard to find new stuff.
- aliguana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I visit maybe 4 sites daily (and we're talking regularly throughout the day). And I have 50+ sites in my feedreader that I usually read through in the evening. If I had to actually visit each of those 50 sites individually then.... I wouldn't. Thank god for RSS.
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would say at least 10 a day. Many emanating From Digg, but they are a different site..
Then there are sex days, where I may go to another 10 sites, but not everyday...
There are science days, when all I seem to care about is new science, or old science that has changed.
But at least 10 sites every day to cover various news, Celebrity women, sex, comedy, and going thru the email causes 4-5 site checks, along with mypoints....
Yep, I am an addict..

of course - kenfagerdotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just noticed this week that ever since I switched my startup page to digg my slashdot account has been neglected. I've also noticed that slashdot's comment threshold isn't what i used to be. Is digg seriously digging (sorry) that deep into slashdot's popularity?
- rjcarr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is a useless article in the "no *****" category. Sure, I have a bookmarks category that opens up all my daily sites in tabs (gmail, news.google, /., digg, netflix, etc), but that doesn't mean they should remove all other websites, or that the internet would be the same without them.
Although I only set out to view 1/2 dozen or so sites a day, my total probably creeps near a hundred from work and other interests. That's the point of the interweb ... everything is connected and just a click (or three) away. - freeman755, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2google.com

linuxtoday.com - Reddog_x2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't see this as a bad thing. I know what information I want & where to get it. So, I hit those sites regularly. RSS feeds, portals & social bookmarking sites give me a decent sample of what else is out there, so I can hit other sites as I like. Sure, I'd like to be on top of more things. But, I want to actually live life, not just read about it online.
- pronto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmm I vist shoutwire, digg, techblog, gaztoo, CNN, BBC, lifehack, google, my site, and like 3 fourms
that is 12 : - soupisgoodfood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, sites I visit almost daily: Slashdot.org, Kuro5hin.org, Digg.com Runryder.com, Engadget.com, Autoblog.com, TUAW.com
I often use Google, Wikipedia, and IMDB, but only when I need to -- I don't really go and visit them in that sense.
There are about 20 other sites that I check on a weekly or less basis. - j0keR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know, I usually spend a lot of time "surfing," and it's true that I only really view ~6 sites a day.
Digg, Slashdot, TWiT, Pr0n, Torrent sites, and anything else I feel like visiting/looking up.
As a nerd I find it semi-disappointing that I visit so few, but also feel relieved that I get so much use out of them all.
=) - jimio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe we are using different 'Internets' but the one I use isn't owned by America...particualrly as it was invented by a Brit ;-)
Has anyone considered that Digg users aren't the average webuser?
We are way to l33t to be called that - j/k - Pollack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I visit very few sites; but I do monitor over 300 using RSS. Browsing is so out of date.Let the content come to you.
- Philotic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Searching for "website" on google returns 3,070,000,000 results... What's all that about 76 million websites total?
- wideawakewesley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have 37 rss feeds in bloglines, then there are 4 sites that I visit that don't have RSS, plus two torrent trackers. I guess I'm not normal.
;) - MKEmodz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ive got exactly six...once in a great while ill browse for stuff, but for the most part i know what im looking for and where to find it.

Ive noticed this and I hate it...id love to find some other sites that peak my interest a bit more. - sych0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1With the advent of RSS, I "click through" many more sites than I actually load. I actually 'visit" a lot more sites if you count RSS, especially if I count the blogs.
Sites I actually load daily though, is about 6-8. Digg & Newsvine for news, TWiT & Somethingawful for forums, and filelist & myspleen for torrents :) - Ultim8Fury, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Gmail

For an online Brit I guess I view a couple more than average. But overall the estimate is pretty close. - BritOverseas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, all the usual suspects above, engadget, mytreo, gmail, digg and my google/ig site, which gives me the skinny on all the other stuff, bbc, cnn, gizmo, scientific american, popsci, popmech etc etc.
On another note though, I am quite impressed with the site it was talking about for the gov

Go U.K, it is about time that all this ***** was easy to find and in one place. - Reddog_x2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There may be 76 million sites. But, how many of them are in English, or whatever language you speak? How many haven't been updated since 1998? How many aren't related to anything you're interested in? How many are practically duplicates of each other? The number of sites you're realistically going to visit is one hell of a lot less than 76 million
