- uptwolait, on 09/24/2009, -2/+34Web chatter does not mean something will happen. It means lots of people think something will happen.
I'll bet the chatter was deafening right before the world collapsed on y2k. - dtele, on 09/25/2009, -2/+34FTA: "...the prophecies become self-distorting. “The more people publish about 2012 and the end of the world,” says the same blogger, “the more data web bots get pointing towards 2012.” "
That sums it up I think! - pimpofpixels, on 09/25/2009, -2/+31The Apocalypse has already happened. Only, it came in the form of a retarded new world in which people predict the apocalypse is about to happen ever few years.
- Harabeck, on 09/24/2009, -5/+33Ugh, this stuff again? I'm so going to enjoy watching these nuts make fools of themselves when the day finally comes around.
I've found this site to address the issue well: http://www.2012hoax.org/
Oh, and cue Picard. - elhaf, on 09/24/2009, -3/+13These people have mental problems.
- trogdoor, on 09/25/2009, -1/+11There are many people who think differently than me that do not have mental problems.
There are many subjects about which reasonable men may differ.
This isn't one of them. - SeanFergusonLF, on 09/25/2009, -1/+10My joints start to ache before a terrorist attack.
- acknotSW, on 09/25/2009, -1/+8already done....Nope, still *****.
- acknotSW, on 09/25/2009, -1/+8If I'm right you will be weeping at all the time, money and effort you have wasted worrying about this *****.
If I'm wrong, I'll likely be quickly dead while you get to live in some kind of post apocalyptic hell with the rest of the "lucky" ones.
Either way, I consider myself the winner in the situation. - inactive, on 09/25/2009, -3/+9Shades of Y2K anyone feel a new industry springing up around 2012.
- raynar, on 09/25/2009, -1/+7you're not rolling them tight enough
- deff, on 09/25/2009, -2/+8If its on the internet, it must be true!
- fquednau, on 09/25/2009, -1/+7A classical example of GIGO (Garbage In - Garbage Out).
- Chrysalii, on 09/25/2009, -1/+7and I'll be dead so I won't care.
- degron, on 09/25/2009, -0/+5The bots are listening to these comments.... shhh
- elhaf, on 09/25/2009, -1/+6because they fail utterly to use critical thinking.
- papach4n9o, on 09/25/2009, -3/+7Apparently, according to web chatter, someone recently had a reeeeeeealy good music video
- MrMayBeBanned, on 09/25/2009, -2/+6Dec. 21, 2012 - The date they finally get the LHC back online and hit the button.
- trogdoor, on 09/25/2009, -1/+4I prefer:
http://www.cracked.com/article_17445_6-best-2012-a ... - Treshnell, on 09/25/2009, -1/+4The original books that wrote about this "event" were completely fabricated. The Mayans never predicted the end of the world for any future date. The 2012 date is basically their version of a new millenium.
- Treshnell, on 09/25/2009, -0/+3The solar cycle only just recently hit its 11-year low and has started to climb back up to its peak. It'll get there in 11 years, so I think "massive solar activity" in two years is a little unlikely.
- acknotSW, on 09/25/2009, -0/+3True, but when the MSM went looking for people to interview about potential y2k problems, they deliberately avoided programmers.
- MWeather, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2"Until I started to die of hunger or got gang-raped and cannibalized by marauders..."
That's not what will kill you. You'll get a tooth abscess or an infected cut and die much more horribly. - trolleyfan, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2"I'll be in my fallout shelter laughing and saying "Who's laughing now!?""
Ummm, you know the padding on those walls actually *isn't* for radiation protection, right? - Lucid00, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2I hate to break it to you, but...
- ylikone, on 09/25/2009, -2/+4Y2K was a real problem that was dealt with by the programmers that fixed all the old code. 2012 is just a myth.
- wrek, on 09/25/2009, -1/+3Solar activity powered telegraphs once also.. I forget what year that was but I remember reading an article where they operators were able to disconnect their batteries/power and continue sending messages using atmospheric energy alone.
Imagine that magnitude of event happening today with all of the power lines, telephone lines but more importantly, microchips we have around us today!? I suspect solar activity is something that we're going to soon wish we'd paid more attention to... - YaDiggMe, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2I see your point.
- inactive, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2Y2K was a scare the rubes and pocket their money rip off.
- sotose, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2You are the harbinger of death, Kara Thrace. You will lead them all to their end
End of line - tinkafoo, on 09/25/2009, -1/+3..but their little toy can't predict when they will get committed to an insane asylum.
- vilago, on 09/25/2009, -1/+3?
- wrek, on 09/25/2009, -1/+3I'm still recovering.
- ImperatorThrax, on 09/27/2009, -0/+1Well what the hell am I gonna do with this fallout shelter and 30 year supply of spam?
- cp101, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1 The fact that a lot of people are antsy about said 2012 will affect the coming days, and months and years. We have to remember that we are Human, that we are capable of Rational and Irrational thought. Irrational thought is decadence.
- Harboggles, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1Both of you offered the explanation "its *****"
what do you have to back up your claim? what does christmas have to do with the amount of ***** in it? - SuperV, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1This is just a case of horrible reporting. If you have actually ever read any of the reports they never state that the world will end in 2012. Why the hit piec on the project?
- acknotSW, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1Or even worse, they will find "new evidence" that shows that the mayan calendar actually ends in 2025 and we will have to put up with these idiots for another 13 years. I mean come on, it's a 2000 year old calendar, being off by a decade isn't a big deal..... And hey, isn't their an asteroid scheduled to pass near to the earth in 2025 year?
- QubitTarutaru, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1It's a good thing the world ended back in the year 2000 and 2001, or else it would end in the year 2012, as well as 2100, 2200, ..., 100*n... etc
- Harabeck, on 09/25/2009, -1/+2There are no pre-existing theories. Other theories are being distorted to match the 2012 one. None of them have any evidence though.
- wjhudson, on 09/28/2009, -0/+1Harabeck;
I'm one of the authors of that site. Yes, the web.bot "prophecy" is BS, but we don't have a lot on it there yet. We cover a lot of the other aspects of the 2012 hoax pretty well though. - majordanger, on 09/25/2009, -1/+2Well if a Web-bot sez it ..it must be true.
This is nothing more then Y2K hype plus a dozen.
All this means is the sun and earth will be lined up with the center of the Milky Way on Dec. 21, 2012.
This happens once every 26,625 years and those clever Mayans figured
this was a good place to stop chiseling stone calendars - majordanger, on 09/29/2009, -0/+1oh
- seobro, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1I hope george ure is wrong.
- Ch3fB0yard33, on 09/29/2009, -0/+1Any of you bomb shelter wielding ***** looking for a roommate?
- brianhatch, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1The thing with the telegraphs actually happened. It happened on September 1-2, 1859, and we know call it the Carrington Super Flare. You can read about it at http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/06may_carr ... . It really did charge up the telegraph network, even to the point of shocking operators and setting things on fire. Another event like that today would be DISASTEROUS, and that's no crack-pot theory.
- Treshnell, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1An event like it already happened some years ago, and it took out a large portion of the power grid in, if I recall, Montreal.
But that's more likely to happen at the peak of a solar cycle. We just recently hit the low point and sun spots have only recently started reappearing. It'll be about 11 years before they peak again. - Treshnell, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1The Mayans weren't calculating the sun lining up with the earth and milky way. While they were great astronomers and their astronomy is accurate even to today, that's not what 2012 is about. The 2012 date is basically their version of a new millenium, and that's about it.
- inactive, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1Same asshats from December 31, 1999......
