- philmck, on 09/08/2009, -0/+40Should have been titled "11 ways to disrupt the internet for a day or two".
- ell0bo, on 09/08/2009, -0/+36I hear you can destroy the internet by typing Google into Google.
- HeavyWave, on 09/08/2009, -3/+36Let AOL users in.
- EpicSelekta, on 09/08/2009, -2/+33#11 - use it as a dump truck.
wait... - forcedfx, on 09/08/2009, -0/+14This man knows what he's talking about.
- Truedirt, on 09/08/2009, -5/+18Let Sarah Palin use it.
- sanagalrc, on 09/08/2009, -0/+13no it's tubes
- skelooth, on 09/08/2009, -0/+12Cool slides, but pretty crappy article. Spam and botnets? Really? Unstoppable Virus? These aren't ways to "Destroy the internet". The only sound theory they had was cutting the transatlantic backbone, but even then it would be rerouted through satellite and would only affect segments of people.
The internet is like a cockroach :) - wave789, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1111. Turn an article that could easily be displayed on one page that doesn't need pictures into a ***** slideshow.
- linuxdog, on 09/08/2009, -3/+11so porn is not destroying the Internet ??
Edit: The Internet is for porn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhTxRssxfuI - RealmDown, on 09/08/2009, -0/+6Actually, the more I learned about BGP and how the internet worked, the more surprised I am that it works at all.....
- newsgetsold, on 09/08/2009, -0/+6Dugg for mentioning the Great Firewall of China.
- rolls20s, on 09/08/2009, -0/+6Exactly. This all depends on how you define "the Internet." If, by "Internet," you mean Facebook and Digg and easily navigating to websites, then yeah, some of these things might be a big problem. But it wouldn't bring down overall communication. At least not for very long. Even the worst of these would temporarily fragment and/or slow down the Internet - not destroy it. Especially ridiculous are the ones involving physical destruction. Enterprise networking equipment is cheap (relatively speaking). And screw the DNS vulnerability - DNS isn't required to run the Internet. It'll just be significantly more difficult to get to your lolz. Maybe that's not such a bad thing.
- Escmymind, on 09/08/2009, -1/+6For access to what? if the servers in the rest of the world are offline....
Or we could just reset the enormous router. - KibblesnBitts, on 09/08/2009, -0/+5What about when the Internet decides to stop working? And we're forced to go to Silicon Valley for some access.
- e2superman, on 09/08/2009, -1/+6Blow up several (or most) root name servers:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_nameserver
They are unprotected (the buildings) and easy targets from the outside (good security inside but poor outside). Trust me, I live near one in Marina Del Rey California and you could park a car bomb next to it and drop the entire building. Do this to a bunch of them and the internet would go bye bye for a while. Meanwhile the world wide economy would collapse... - skipvt, on 09/08/2009, -0/+4The fragility of the internets as explained the the IT Department of Reynholm Industries.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDbyYGrswtg - bigteebo, on 09/08/2009, -0/+4Unwanted advertising everywhere. Gets the job done.
- Stoyanov, on 09/08/2009, -0/+4Clog the tubes until they asplode.

- reyoo30309, on 09/08/2009, -0/+3Australia fell for that awhile back. Their government said it was to protect the children. I would call them idiots but I am sure we are soon to follow.
- inactive, on 09/08/2009, -1/+4The Internet Isn't Something You Dump Something On.....
- falconear, on 09/08/2009, -0/+3Unstoppable virus...giant scissors on a submarine....BWAHAHAH! This gave me a good laugh. :)
"HACK THE PLANET! HACK THE PLANET!!" - Jade10145, on 09/08/2009, -0/+3You have to point your laptop into a mirror, open three tabs in fire fox, and type google into google three times..internet destroyed.
- curunir, on 09/08/2009, -0/+2# 12: Give the POTUS the ability to shut it down.
- thecheatah, on 09/08/2009, -0/+2make that regionally disrupt the internet for a few hours.
- opticwind, on 09/08/2009, -0/+2"One way would be disabling electronics with an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) within a 10km radius. It's not effective on a worldwide scale, but if the idea can be manipulated for a global EMP then it might be feasible"
Honestly, we'd have a lot more to worry about than just the internet with a global EMP. - BxBoy, on 09/08/2009, -0/+2Reminds me of that South Park episode.
- anth0nycurtis, on 09/08/2009, -0/+2all you do is this:
1. open browser and go to google.com
2. type 0/0 =
3. Click the button "Google Search" like so and... - wejmahtin, on 09/08/2009, -0/+2i just scanned the comments looking for that idiot that will invariably post 'kill it with fire'.
- borez, on 09/08/2009, -3/+4Hack Cisco IOS + enable broadcast address + calculate broadcast address from router IP, use broadcast add to transfer hack to other Cisco routers. etc. etc. etc.
Give it ten minutes.
Dead internet. - reyoo30309, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1While walking backwards... while on fire.
- reyoo30309, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1I would digg you but I don't want to give anyone any ideas..
- inactive, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1@forcedfx
The scary thing is that he probably does. You should do what I do and subscribe to him so that you catch all his little comments. - syntaxgs, on 09/08/2009, -7/+8yo can,t use he internet for dumping =P
it a on line thing that can,t store REAL thing it - waydee, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1The more accessible the Internet becomes the more it sucks. Eventually every moron and his dog will be online, clogging the tubes with their braindead comments, blogs and tweets and the Internet as we know it will be gone forever.
- Pother, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1If it has anything to do with "teeth", then I'm going to close my browser...
- stoneage7, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1bomb big ben. duh.
- christianboutin, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1Ah crap you beat me to it :-)
- deadguysleeps, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1sssshhhhh
- opticwind, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1"Both the internet and the World Wide Web were designed as open forums for free ideas and expression, but countries have pushed to censor objectionable materials."
Honestly, those ideals weren't the original purposes of design for the net. But they are certainly important values in modern usage. - GMofOLC, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1Number 10 didn't load the picture for me at first and I thought "Oh, that's clever."
But then it did and I was sad. - inactive, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1Dugg for one of the root servers being in College Park!
- venomoushealer, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1I feel like that article was really just a script for some deleted scene from "Live Free or Die Hard." And the ideas were about as technologically sound as well.
*rolls eyes* - Wayfarer12, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1*ding ding ding ding* We have a winner!
- acdtrux, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1Grab your dick and double click!
- UselessTrivia, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1Anybody know if those awesome terminator hands in #6 are real or if they actually function?
- theOster, on 09/08/2009, -0/+1does anyone remember the story about the M servers traffic being rerouted to some unknown server? i've tried searching for it several times but cant find it. but apparently it was found out after the fact that all traffic that was supposed to be handled by the M root server was actually not. and had been that way for like a month or something. no one knew who was handling the traffic (or who could even *handle* that much traffic), but everything was being routed properly and there didnt appear to be any malicious behaviour.
anyway, if you know where i can find an article on this, please let me know. - Truedirt, on 09/08/2009, -1/+1Have the most ridiculous submissions rise on top at Digg because of how " popular " is the person who submitted it.
