- digggggggggg, on 12/31/2007, -11/+112Sure it may be easy to hate on Digg, but come on, admit it. You can't stop reading it.
That's why you're here. - inactive, on 12/31/2007, -7/+91Unfortunately, I think Digg has been the social site that went downhill the most in 2007. It became extremely slow and buggy, it implemented a horrible comment system, it introduced several useless new features while ignoring existing issues, it censors more than any of the others, and its algorithm seems to have become significantly more biased in who or what makes the front page. At this rate I don't think it will be going any place but down in 2008. If the Digg team would return to their roots, streamline their code, and listen to their users, I'd be a lot more optimistic. Until then, Reddit will continue to be my preferred social site, but I miss the old Digg.
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -2/+58Dont be stupid digg is great
Edited by Admin on 2007-12-31 00:51 - dvorachek, on 12/31/2007, -3/+32Digg has gone far off course from the technology focused social news network it once was. Its basically fark + break.com + political propaganda + the occasional real news story. Aparently thats what the general populace wants though because that is what keeps getting dugg up. I hate people.
- laplacian, on 12/31/2007, -2/+222005 or 2006 was Digg's best year.
2007, for better or worse, was the year of Facebook.
Can't wait to see what's next! - quomen, on 12/31/2007, -3/+21I'm really tired of the political agenda content. Can we go back to tech roots please..
- SWGreg, on 12/31/2007, -1/+18I wouldn't say its gone downhill the most, but you're right about the current issues. In 2008 digg needs to fix the current issues (site speed and comment system being the biggest issues for me) before taking on more than they can chew.
- sajnikanth, on 12/31/2007, -2/+17No Digg for you. COME BACK 1 YEAR!
- RoboPimp3000, on 12/31/2007, -1/+16That article reads like it was written for the sole purpose of getting on the front page of Digg.
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -10/+23Lately, Digg attracts the most anti-social paranoid conspiracy theorists ever. If I was only getting my news from the internetz, I would be recluding in my nuclear bunker right now, ducking under the table, naked and petrified, aiming my shotgun at every crackling noise I heard coming from that dark corner, while reciting my constitutional rights very loudly for the.
But then I go outside in the real world, realizing it's not all that bad, no apocalypse in sight. Still have my liberties. Everybody is well awake, contrary to what Alex Jones pretend, and Ron Paul is a douchebag. - Scopitone, on 12/31/2007, -7/+18I miss the old digg. For SOME reason the new Paultards have brought a rise in sexist/racist/stupid comments. Those comments are then sadly dugg right the hell up.
- sandbird, on 12/31/2007, -6/+16Plus all the Ron Paul spam. Really got sick of seeing RP posts all the damn time.
- puto, on 12/31/2007, -17/+27Digg is the most censored
- lukasmack, on 12/31/2007, -0/+9Digg shouldn't even be a social site its a news site. They should remove all the friends and shouts and all that crap which nobody who wants news looks at. I miss the old days.
- saisumimen, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6The potential for millions of dollars makes people do things like that. Digg is, no matter how you slice it, out to make money, pure and simple. Can you then, really blame them for trying to attract a more broad audience?
- saisumimen, on 12/31/2007, -1/+7Digg 2.0 was arguably the "good ol' days", and the site was so bleeding edge that it often stole scoops from Slashdot. Some mash-up sites even popped up that gave points to each one for scoops and took points away for dupes. Now digg's been reduced to "FW: FW: Fw: fw: FW: lolcoolpic haha" articles and obvious spambait.
But I agree, with digg's growth came all the people who've tried to game the system. Once the "first" gaming ring was uncovered, people found out how easy it was to circle-jerk articles to the front page. By the time the big algorithm overhaul came, it was too late. The reason a lot of people stick around, I think, is because unlike other sites, we can change things through digging, burying, reporting, blocking and commenting. No other site is as easy to use and gives the people as much power. - ihatepaulspam, on 12/31/2007, -4/+10He left out the best reason to love Digg, not a day goes by without at least one story about how Ron Paul is the second coming of Christ making the front page.
- georgemason01, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6My relationship with Digg can best be paralleled to me wanting to touch wet paint or walk on wet pavement.
- laceration, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6 I never took to all that friend bs of myspace and facebook. Digg is essentially about ideas. There's the same dichotomy outside of the web in "real life". Most people just gossip and don't have much going on between their ears while fewer can actually generate a meaningful thought. In that Ron Paul is big on digg reflects this. Whether you like him or not, he is about ideas, the other candidates about having "qualities", playing to emotions or the kind of guy you want have beer with. Despite all the flak here always interesting stuff to discover and still some great discussion. Digg has degenerated a bit, I could do w/o all the friend and fan stuff. The only way a story gets promoted is if you have networked like that. As this site has got so bigg(sic) I miss the geeky stuff. When's the last time an article about PHP made it to top stories?
- dezmo, on 12/31/2007, -1/+7traitor
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -6/+11the title of the new page kind of spoiled it.
- thespace2, on 12/31/2007, -1/+6Wow, no mention of Reddit at all.
- lazyrussian, on 12/31/2007, -2/+7In case CNet crashes? Your're joking right?
Even fi hell freezes over I doubt Cnet will crash :p - GhostyBoy, on 12/31/2007, -0/+5Can anyone give examples of things that have been censored? I am curious.
- Quakee, on 12/31/2007, -5/+10I can't get enough stories about how great Ron Paul is =]
yea, I know I'm prob getting buried. - inactive, on 12/31/2007, -2/+7go back to reddit
- Smeed, on 12/31/2007, -2/+7I dont see a problem with the way this is system is laid out. It just needs to be fixed so its not slow as hell.
- sajnikanth, on 12/31/2007, -2/+6I wish I knew what needs to be done to fix this. Hey...I don't have to be a chef to say the pie's bad.
- dn11, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4i'm always attracted to things that aren't good for me. digg is like the girl that flirted with me, used me, but never slept with me... uhh make that the 20 girls that did that to me... at least digg fills my head with useless knowledge that no girl will ever be able to take away from me while she is crushing my soul /wrists
- saisumimen, on 12/31/2007, -1/+5Wow, you created a username with that agenda in mind? Do you really hate Ron Paul that much?
Have you ever taken Psychology 101? Things you vehemently hate this much... nah, I'm not going to ruin it for you ;p - Dylson, on 12/31/2007, -3/+7Pics or it didn't happen
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4No.
- AlanCayce, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4"OMG, let's change the perfect comment system"
HAHAHA. A perfect comment system? You must be joking. That old comment system was horrid! Yes, this new one needs some work, but its ten times that of the old system. I enjoy not having to scroll down half the damn page to find a real comment.
just my 2cent.. - Karmavs, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3Notice that your comment is nested within Sajnikanth's? That's because you just described the way the comment system works right now.
- georgemason01, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3Nerdy dribble = comment that necessitates minimal thought and contemplation?
- s1mph0ny, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3Well, this is in the tech section... and it fits in rather well with all the other non-tech articles and rumors.
- zwaldowski, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3It hurts.
- horscategorie, on 12/31/2007, -3/+6Begin circle-jerk...now!
- zwaldowski, on 12/31/2007, -2/+5Aw, ***** off. Reddit's my home when Digg gets too retarded for my tastes. Speaking of...
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3The best way to save digg is to get rid of profiles COMPLETELY. Your user ID should be solely to login and maybe to comment. Nothing else. Not even on submissions. Submissions should not even include your user ID . Then all the pathetic top users like msaleem, etc. would have no incentive to waste their lives doing NOTIHNG all day but look for things to submit. And then it would be about the content again.
- saisumimen, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3Liveleak? are you kidding me? Have you ever read the comments section on there? Say what you want about digg and the people who post comments here, but the 11-14 year olds that post the same racist/ignorant/retarded comments on every. single. video. are nothing to brag about.
- skews13, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3you have to grow to stay competitive in buisness. digg has tried to diversify to attract more people to it's site, and has done a pretty good job. they need to make it where you can continue threads with other people a little more easily.
- inactive, on 12/31/2007, -2/+5You just blatantly stole the fake stevejobs idea and changed it to steve ballmer? Thats weak man. Why not try being original.
- J0hnD0e, on 12/31/2007, -9/+12One in five articles make it to reddit a couple days before digg. Digg used to be awesome, too much spam nowadays. So many articles get censored and I don't even want to go to the Ron Paul stuff.
Don't know why i'm still here?? - inactive, on 12/31/2007, -0/+2Just because your ***** submissions gets buried does not mean they are censoring.
It is a sad indication of your life when you actually believe the crap that you digg. - dn11, on 12/31/2007, -0/+2In that case - happy leftist, secular holiday season too you sir. This is the season for coming together after all
- Tweekster, on 12/31/2007, -0/+2Digg is extremely cyclical. Cheney impeachment, guilinia sucks, drug legalization, bush is hitler. rinse, repeat
