- albyliontk, on 09/25/2008, -0/+58I do not understand if the article is new or recycled.... IPV6 is already there......
- Insanitation, on 09/25/2008, -0/+53OMG WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!
- Prismatic, on 09/26/2008, -0/+45"I take it your no networking expert?"
*woooooooooooshhhhhhhhhh* - peterjmag, on 09/26/2008, -1/+38There's no place like 127.0.0.1.
- jmarkgraf, on 09/25/2008, -3/+33Wrong. Dead Wrong. There are plenty of IPs, it's just that they are being horded by who got them first. We need to redistribute what isn't being used.
- Sh0rtstak, on 09/25/2008, -5/+34better build your porn library up now
- t3hbagel, on 09/25/2008, -0/+26Yeah, seriously. What's with this Warning? ARIN has been aware for some time now..
- bstory, on 09/25/2008, -0/+24This was old news already back in 2000

If it loads you might be ready.
If it doesn't you aren't. - InvisibleInk, on 09/25/2008, -4/+25Communist!
- twiztidsinz, on 09/26/2008, -1/+21127.0.0.1 sweet 127.0.0.1
- Gndoab, on 09/26/2008, -0/+18Um...the internet is not owned by the governmet.
I for one want the government to have as little to do with as much as possible. Nanny states (places where people can't figure out for themselves, "Hey, this is important. We should probably do something about it") suck. - pbone, on 09/26/2008, -1/+19don't worry. just get Al Gore to invent another internet. problem solved.
- inigomntoya, on 09/26/2008, -0/+17And enabled by default on Mac's and Windows Vista.
Nothing to see here... - InvisibleInk, on 09/25/2008, -0/+15Nah, just have to go back to playing Solitaire and Minesweeper all day, is all.
- judicar, on 09/26/2008, -2/+17Dugg for the unintended LoLs.

- arsonist18, on 09/26/2008, -0/+13What the heck does the pic have to do with it?
- philhatesyou, on 09/26/2008, -0/+13You stopped using IPv6 because of NAT? Pardon?
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+12That's good for a month tops?
- jonnyboy88, on 09/26/2008, -0/+11cool, ipv6 makes the google logo come alive.
- philhatesyou, on 09/26/2008, -1/+12Just being able to do the math doesn't cut it. The IP allocation process is more complicated than that. IANA allocates chunks of addresses to RIRs who in turn allocate addresses to their clients. IANA only allocates in networks that are /8 or larger, and are running out of these networks. Once they allocate the last /8 they have available and the RIRs run out of blocks to hand out, you've hit exhaustion. You can't go micromanaging IPs and have them routed one by one: no router on the face of the planet has enough memory for a route table that large. DHCP and NAT are nothing more than band-aids to a serious problem.
You should stick with something you know and let the grown-ups talk about grown-up things. - breakaway, on 09/26/2008, -0/+11100GB ought to last me.
Wait, what am I thinking? - supernuke, on 09/26/2008, -1/+11Sounds like another Y2K to me. Big deal about nothing.
- anon775, on 09/25/2008, -2/+12Oh noes you're right! I can't edit either! Oh well i guess I just have to deal with the scripts that are all being launched against 127.0.0.1 I should be ok though my router (192.168.1.1) acts liek a firewall. I guess it serves me right....
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+10I'm hacking 127.0.0.1 so hard with DDOS right n-- NO CARRIER
- Br3ach, on 09/26/2008, -0/+9Most new networking devices have IPv6 implemented already, there will be a gradual shift toward IPv6 in the next few years, eventually there will be both standards, and IPv4 will eventually be phased out.
Just like anything the transition just takes time, there isnt a big switch that will be hit. - Tichondrius74, on 09/26/2008, -0/+9Yea me too.
- jman583, on 09/26/2008, -0/+9NO!!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!
- Inferny, on 09/26/2008, -1/+10IPv6 doesn't use numbers anymore, it uses hex characters, also, v6 is not indicative of how many octets there are.
IPv6 uses 128 bits, while IPv4 used 32.
Also remember, that with each extra bit, the number of spaces doubles.
so a new IPv6 address would look something like AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA
if you think about it... holy **** we aren't going to have to upgrade that anytime soon.
Also, IPv4 will probably still exist on LAN's, and IPv6 will mainly be used for the internet, there are a few options like Dual Stacks, 6to4 and 4to6 tunnels, etc that allow both to exist at the same time. - charm803, on 09/26/2008, -1/+10"A new system called IPv6 has been ready for a decade and is already used in Japan to connect thousands of earthquake sensors through a computer system that sends automatic alerts to television programmes and turns traffic lights red.
IPv6 addresses are 128 bits long and so provide a possible 340 trillion, trillion, trillion address space."
Looks like there's a solution, so we can stop crying over spilt milk now. - twiztidsinz, on 09/26/2008, -0/+9Oh the sweet sweet irony...

- Vidalsassgirlie, on 09/26/2008, -2/+11Can't we just give $700 Billion to the internet to bail it out? If not, I'm 100% sure the your mother will die, you'll get raped, France will take over America, and the world will end.

Lost our lease
EVERYTHING MUST GO! - yourprash, on 09/25/2008, -0/+9It's high time we go for IPv6. So many years have passed since the beginning of usage of IPv4 and we are still stuck to it.
