- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11lol, it's only because most of there stuff is on there anyway.
good PR I guess. - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11lol, only because the consumer would've done it whether Warner wanted to or not.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10yep, only couple thousand more deals like this and it should start to break even.
- awgneo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11What an honorable move.
- whiskeysquared, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7What? Finally a business model for YouTube?
- spinchange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5a MUCH better move than what Universal has threatened to do....not only for the fans sake, but for the sheer survival of their business.
- damonbrent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6wow. This is insane. I'd think WB should be _paying_ youtube to advertise their music. Really, are you gonna keep a crappy copy of a song you like? If you discover interesting music on (a) youtube (video), I posit that you're likely to venture out to buy the music.
The score?
WB: 1
youtube: 0 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm really tempted to email WB and thank them for listening to their customers. Now if only we can get other companies to do the same. Smart move by them that I am sure is welcomed by many.

and for those of you who are Biblio-Challenged Americans
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satire - DanSheldon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wait, wait. YouTube is constantly sucking the money out of VCs in order to maintain it's incredibly horrible business model (A model where lots of money out and little money in somehow means "You're successful) and now they are taking the little money they are getting in and redirecting it towards royalties?
The 2.0 burst starts with YouTube, I just hope someone is there to liveblog it with a nifty AJAX app. - palmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uh, yeah, because people are clamoring for unwatchably bad compressed garbage at 320x240 and mono.
I think the real question is why, instead of whining about piracy and suing, the record companies haven't started selling music-video collections on DVD. Especially with the whole '80s revival that has come and largely gone. A golden opportunity to cash in on the videos everyone loved back when there was M on MTV. - cuposmuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1before opening your month... try using google to double check yours facts...

... - RonaldLewis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I disagree that YouTube's model is horrible. They are the world's most popular video site, and who wants to argue with such an accomplishment? YouTube will never have a problem with VCs, because they too want to see it succeed -- the payoff comes later, not now.
- DanSheldon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I see what your saying, and I'm not arguing the model in as far as what they are providing. There is no denying that they are among the most popular, if not the most popular, video site out there. However, their business model is flawed. Their expenses keep growing, first by popularity, then by legal expenses and now they are adding royalties to that list. While the expenses continue to increase, their earning model has remained the same. They show no signs of being able to turn a profit and unless they make a major change soon, which could be in the works, who knows, they are going to continue to hemorrhage money and there will be a point the VCs will stop.
My 2 cents any and I could be totally wrong :) - cuposmuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5357390.stm
Quote "The technology would also enable Warner to review homemade videos and decide whether to approve or reject them"
hmmm, yes Warner Music deciding "fair use" for YouTube... this from a member of a group that sues its own consumers... - ManOfTomorrow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4author20, I know some good people who work with WB studios in Burbank. They, along with many other folks at TIME and DC Comics have almost no interaction with AOL. It's not very smart to blame a company, who yes, are co-owned with a not-so-virtuous corporation like AOL, but it's not WB's fault for this.
Avoiding Warners content for the sake of "it's AOL!" is ridiculous. My WB DVDs have never given me any malware/spyware (although I just click 'no thanks' to their old movie player ---MPC is fine with me). - Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1AOL should be in jail? How does that work?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4This is cool, they're following the Star Wars suit: Let the fans be fans!
- author20, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7This was to be expected, but one must remember -- this company is still a part of AOL, the biggest fraudsters, pop-up and spyware spreaders, mis-reportes, privacy violators and abusers of the Internet. Ad revenue is up, but AOL still won't cease hanging up on those who want to quit. They should be in jail, and their Warner parnters should be sanctioned until they retire the brand and lay off all AOL employees. Sorry -- I believe each and every employee in their cancellation department should be in jail. Each and every one is a credit card fraudster. Their chairman (Case) knew about the mis-reporting and if you applied the Martha Stuart rule, Steve Case would be in jail or at least on the same island as Ken Lay (I didn't see a body, did you?).
Until AOL is removed from the face of the earth, people should avoid Warner content. Artists who don't approve of AOL's ruination of the Internet should not sign with Warner. - B4202, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Broken Link...error 404 not found
